Hiba (Thujopsis dolabrata) wood was treated with supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) at stepwise temperature increments from 50° to 400°C continuously so that extractives (dichloromethane-soluble and -insoluble
phases) and solid residues were obtained. The yield of extractives from hiba wood increased with increasing extraction temperature.
The volatile compounds in the dichloromethane-soluble phase from scCO2 extraction at 50°C contained only terpenoids. However, the volatile compounds in the dichloromethane-soluble phase from scCO2 extraction at 300°C not only contained terpenoids but also phenols, furans, hydrocarbons, and organic acids. The yield of
β-thujaplicin, which is a useful compound in hiba wood, increased with increasing extraction temperature from 50°C to 300°C;
the optimal conditions for extracting β-thujaplicin were 300°C and 19.61 MPa. Further study of degradated compounds from the cellulosic and lignic materials of hiba

The present study describes the influence of temperature levels and planting time on the sprouting of rhizome-buds and the biomass production of torpedograss ( Panicum repens L.) in the Okinawa prefecture, Japan. Torpedograss planted in each month (1994–95) was grown for 210 days. Sprouting of the rhizome-bud of torpedograss was 92–96% at the temperature range of 20–35°C in an incubator, and the sprouting was not observed at the extreme low and high temperature of ≤5 and ≥45°C, respectively. The plant showed 40–72% emergence when grown in pots throughout the year in the ambient temperature range of 17–29°C. The percentage emergence was comparatively higher in March to September, and shoots elongated rapidly in the period from April to October when the temperature range of 22–29°C prevailed. Torpedograss-rhizome sown in the period from January to June obtained significantly higher biomass because higher temperatures prevailed in the following growth period from May to October, as compared with the torpedograss-rhizome sown in the period of July to December. The plant required higher temperatures for proper growth and development during the period of moderate (70–110 days after planting (DAP)) and fast growth phases (110 DAP to the last harvest). 相似文献

Bovine mastitis is one of the most prevalent and costly diseases in the dairy industry. Lipid mediators are signaling molecules which coordinately and intricately modulate inflammation. They are produced from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the cellular membrane via several enzymes including cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX). In the present study, we performed comprehensive analysis of lipid production in milk obtained from clinical or subclinical mastitic cows using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. We detected 26, 24, and 40 kinds of lipid constantly in healthy, subclinical, and clinical mastitic milk, respectively. In clinical mastitic milk, the amount of a major n‐6 PUFA, arachidonic acid (AA), tended to increase, whereas amounts of major n‐3 PUFAs, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, tended to decrease. The amounts of several AA‐derived lipids including COX‐catalyzed prostaglandin (PG) D2 and PGE2, and LOX‐catalyzed leukotriene (LT) B4 were increased in clinical mastitic milk. Although subclinical mastitic milk represented similar trend of lipid production to healthy milk, amounts of several lipids such as LTD4, 14,15‐dihydroxyeicosatrienoic acid, and 14‐epoxyeicosatrienoic acid changed. These findings would be helpful for better understanding of mastitis pathology and give us some insights to develop a new diagnostic and therapeutic strategy. 相似文献

Soil types and fertilizer regimes were evaluated on growth, yield, and quality of Amaranthus tricolor lines, IB (India Bengal), TW (Taiwan), BB (Bangladesh B), and BC (Bangladesh C) in developing management practices in Okinawa. Growth and yield of all amaranth lines were higher in gray soil (pH 8.4) than in dark red soil (pH 6.6) and red soil (pH 5.4). The combined NPK fertilizer resulted in highest growth parameters and yield of amaranths in all soils. Nitrogen fertilizer alone did not affect growth parameters and yield of amaranths in dark red and red soils. Growth parameters and yield increased similarly with the 30, 40, and 50 g m?2 of NPK fertilizer in BB line, and with the 20, 30, 40, and 50 g m?2 in BC line. Agronomic efficiency of NPK fertilizer at 50 g m?2 was not prominent on the amaranths, compared to the fertilizer at 40 g m?2. Amaranth lines had higher Na in dark red and red soils, while K and Mg in gray soil, Ca in gray and red soils, and Fe in dark red soil. The NPK fertilizer resulted in higher Na, Ca, Mg, and P in BB line in glasshouse. These minerals in BB line were not clearly affected, but in BC line were lower with NPK fertilizer at 20–50 g m?2 in field. These studies indicate that gray soil is best for amaranth cultivation and combined NPK fertilizer at 20–40 g m?2 is effective in gray soil in Okinawa for higher yield and minerals of amaranth. 相似文献

Here, we developed a new Tartary buckwheat cultivar ‘Manten-Kirari’, whose flour contains only trace amounts of rutinosidase and lacked bitterness. The trace-rutinosidase breeding line ‘f3g-162’ (seed parent), which was obtained from a Nepalese genetic resource, was crossed with ‘Hokkai T8’ (pollen parent), the leading variety in Japan, to improve its agronomic characteristics. The obtained progeny were subjected to performance test. ‘Manten-Kirari’ had no detectable rutinosidase isozymes in an in-gel detection assay and only 1/266 of the rutinosidase activity of ‘Hokkai T8’. Dough prepared from ‘Manten-Kirari’ flour contained almost no hydrolyzed rutin, even 6 h after the addition of water, whereas the rutin in ‘Hokkai T8’ dough was completely hydrolyzed within 10 min. In a sensory evaluation of the flour from the two varieties, nearly all panelists detected strong bitterness in ‘Hokkai T8’, whereas no panelists reported bitterness in ‘Manten-Kirari’. This is the first report to describe the breeding of a Tartary buckwheat cultivar with reduced rutin hydrolysis and no bitterness in the prepared flour. Notably, the agronomic characteristics of ‘Manten-Kirari’ were similar to those of ‘Hokkai T8’, which is the leading variety in Japan. We examined vertical and seasonal variations in stem respiration rates in a 50-year-old plantation of Japanese cypress, Chamaecyparis obtusa (Sieb. et Zucc.) Endl., in central Japan, and discuss a practical and precise method to scale a point-measured stem CO2 efflux rate up to whole-stem respiration. For five selected trees, stem CO2 efflux rates were measured at breast height (1.3 m) and at five or six points above breast height (at approximately 2 m intervals)
every 1 or 2 months over two consecutive years. Daily total stem respiration rate (surface area basis) was greater inside
the crown than below the crown, especially during the growing season. By incorporating the vertical profile of the respiration
rate, annual whole-stem respiration was estimated for each sample tree (R
y). We then compared this estimate (R
y) with another estimate of annual whole-stem respiration (R′y) obtained using a conventional method; it is assumed that the area-based respiration rate at breast height is constant throughout
the stem. The ratio of these two estimates (R′y/R
y) was usually less than 1, indicating that the assumptions used to calculate R′y underestimate annual whole-stem respiration. We found that R′y/R
y was negatively correlated with the ratio of crown length to tree height (crown ratio). These results suggest that annual
whole-stem respiration in this C. obtusa plantation is substantially affected by the relative proportion of within-crown stem with higher respiratory activity. Methodologically,
our results imply that incorporating the crown ratio into the conventional method would improve the accuracy of annual whole-stem

Rats fed a diet containing Shadow Queen (SQ), an anthocyanin-rich potato cultivar, previously showed an increase in the hepatic
superoxide dismutase (SOD)-2 mRNA level. We investigated whether an extract of SQ would directly increase the hepatic SOD-2
mRNA level in HepG2 cells. Furthermore, we estimated the intracellular signaling pathway for the induction of SOD-2 mRNA expression.
HepG2 cells were stimulated using extracts of four crops, including SQ, for 12 h; only extracts of colored potatoes induced
SOD-2 mRNA expression significantly. This induction of SOD-2 mRNA expression was blocked by an inhibitor of the extracellular
signal-related kinase (ERK) 1/2 pathway. Furthermore, an extract of SQ increased the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 after 15 or
30 min of stimulation. These data indicate that an extract of SQ directly induces hepatic SOD-2 mRNA expression via activation

A new disease of chrysanthemum causing ray speck was found in Okinoerabu island, Kagoshima, Japan in March 2006. Small reddish-brown
lesions were observed on the ray florets of the chrysanthemum (cv. Anastasia). The causal fungus was exclusively isolated
from the lesions, and typical symptoms were reproduced after inoculation with the isolate. The causal fungus was identified
as Stemphylium lycopersici (Enjoji) Yamamoto based on morphology and the sequences of rDNA-ITS and the gpd gene regions. The name, “sho-hanten-byo”, in Japanese is proposed for this ray speck disease. 相似文献
