Deep avian evolutionary relationships have been difficult to resolve as a result of a putative explosive radiation. Our study examined approximately 32 kilobases of aligned nuclear DNA sequences from 19 independent loci for 169 species, representing all major extant groups, and recovered a robust phylogeny from a genome-wide signal supported by multiple analytical methods. We documented well-supported, previously unrecognized interordinal relationships (such as a sister relationship between passerines and parrots) and corroborated previously contentious groupings (such as flamingos and grebes). Our conclusions challenge current classifications and alter our understanding of trait evolution; for example, some diurnal birds evolved from nocturnal ancestors. Our results provide a valuable resource for phylogenetic and comparative studies in birds. 相似文献

In dogs, pancreatic acinar cell injury is thought to be caused by decreased pancreatic blood flow due to heart failure. In previous our report, it demonstrated that decreased heart function causes a significant decrease in pancreatic blood flow in heart failure dog model caused by rapid ventricular pacing (RVP). However, the types of histopathological changes remain unclear. We aimed to verify the types of histopathological changes occurring in the pancreatic tissue due to decreased heart function. After RVP for 4 weeks, atrophy of pancreatic acinar cells, characterized by a decrease in zymogen granules, was observed in all areas of the pancreas. In conclusion, the result of this study suggests that attention should be paid to ischemia/hypoperfusion injury in the pancreas. 相似文献

There are currently eight native horse populations in Japan, namely, Hokkaido, Kiso, Noma, Taishu, Misaki, Tokara, Miyako, and Yonaguni horses. Since locomotion traits, including gaitedness, are important for riding and packing horses, the genetic properties associated with these traits could be informative for understanding the characteristics and history of these horses. In this study, we investigated the distribution of the mutant allele of DMRT3 gene (DMRT3:p.Ser301Ter) associated with ambling gaits in the Japanese native horse. We also examined haplotypes of SNPs in the 83‐kb region including DMRT3 gene by genotyping four SNPs in this region. The results revealed the presence of DMRT3:p.Ser301Ter in the Hokkaido and Yonaguni populations at allele frequencies of 0.18 and 0.02, respectively, and the observed haplotype associated with DMRT3:p.Ser301Ter was estimated as the most common haplotype in the horses in the world. Since DMRT3:p.Ser301Ter has been hypothesized to spread across Eurasian continent from Medieval England after 850 to 900 CE, our findings of the presence of DMRT3:p.Ser301Ter with the common haplotype in the Japanese native horses will provide a new insight into the history of the Japanese native horse, such as considerable level of gene flow from Eurasian continent after 850 to 900 CE. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Changes in tissue structures, rheological properties, and water content of abalone meat were studied in relation to boiling and steaming time. The adductor muscle of abalone Haliotis discus, which was removed directly from the shell, was boiled or steamed for 1 h, 2 h, and 3 h. When observed under a light microscope and by scanning electron microscopy, structural changes in the myofibrils were greatest in the boiled abalone meat compared with the steamed meat. When heating time was increased from 1 h to 3 h, the instantaneous modulus E 0 of boiled abalone meat decreased gradually with increased heating time, whereas the E 0 of steamed abalone meat was reduced when heated for 2 h. When heated for 1 h, the relaxation time of steamed abalone meat was much longer than that of boiled meat. There were no significant changes in the relaxation time of abalone meat among the different boiling times, but the relaxation time of steamed abalone meat was reduced gradually with increasing heating times. The study's results confirmed that the difference in rheological properties between the boiled and steamed meats was due mainly to the denaturation level of myofibrils when heated for 1 h, as well as due to the changes in water and solid content and the manner in which the inner water was exchanged after heating time was increased from 1 h to 3 h. 相似文献

1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment maintains apple fruit quality during storage, but its efficacy is dependent on a number of conditions. ‘Tsugaru’ apples are a major early season cultivar in Japan, but because ‘Tsugaru’ fruit produce abundant ethylene, they have a short shelf-life, and efficacy of 1-MCP is not as high with ‘Tsugaru’ as with other cultivars. To improve 1-MCP efficacy, ‘Tsugaru’ fruit were pre-cooled at −1 °C or −3 °C for 24 h before 1-MCP treatment. Ethylene production decreased with the cold treatment, resulting in better storage after 1-MCP treatment. Although ethylene production was low at the end of 24 h of the cold pre-treatment, expression of ACS1, the ethylene receptor genes ERS1, ETR1(a), ETR1b, ETR2 and ETR5, and the cell wall degradation-related gene PG1 all increased with a 24 h cold treatment. It is assumed that these elevated gene expression levels were not caused by ethylene, but more directly by cold stimulus. Thus, a short period of cold stimulus suppresses ethylene production, but induces expression of some genes. 1-MCP treatment was more effective with some initial fruit chilling. 相似文献

The effects of three crop load densities (4, 6 and 8 fruit per cm2 of the cross-section of each tree branch, BCSA) on fruit growth, yield, fruit quality and vegetative growth were studied in apples (Malus × domestica Borkh) Ultrared Gala/MM111, from the fourth leaf (2006–2007 season) to the sixth (2008–2009 season). The maximum fruit growth rate was reached between 90 and 108 days after full bloom (DAFB), with values above 2.6 g day−1. Accumulated yields to the sixth leaf reached 181, 157 and 123 Mg ha−1 in the high, medium and low crop loads, respectively. Mean fruit weight decreased with increasing fruit crop load but the yields of fruit weight over 194 g were similar in all crop loads; the highest crop load exceeded the lowest crop load by 18.8 and 27.5 Mg ha−1 of fruit weight of more than 172 and 154 g, respectively. The yields of harvested fruit exceeding 75% with red coloring did not show major differences, while fruit classified as 50–75% with red coloring were less common in the low crop load. No major differences were found at the end of the study in vegetative growth in the different seasons, nor in plant size. The reduction in mean fruit weight and in the percentage of fruit with good coloring was compensated by the increase in yields, thus not resulting in an effective reduction in the quality of the harvested fruit. The level of plant development reached with a semi-vigorous rootstock and high fruit loads allowed obtaining high fruit yield earlier and of good quality. 相似文献

Sustainable land management of smallholder farms is crucial for ensuring food security in sub-Saharan Africa. However, little is known about the nutrient dynamics of smallholder farming systems at the farm level based on primary data. In this study, carbon (C) and nutrient budgets of the home garden system in the Kilimanjaro highlands, where Andosols predominate, were quantified at the farmer's field. We evaluated (1) the soil C and nutrient flow in the main three land-use blocks (banana (Musa spp.) garden, maize (Zea mays L.) field and grassland) in one representative home garden and (2) the internal flow between farmland and livestock and the external nutrient flow across the inside and outside of the six home gardens. Intensive applications of livestock dung to the banana trees resulted in a positive C budget (7.2 Mg C ha−1 year−1) in the banana garden. Nitrogen loss through the harvesting of feed and crops was almost balanced with the livestock dung application, while nitrogen loss through leaching only accounted for 3% of that applied. Banana productivity has been maintained despite a negative potassium budget (−241 kg K ha−1 year−1), probably owing to the replenished exchangeable potassium from Andosols. In the maize field, the C budget was negative (−1.7 Mg C ha−1 year−1) owing to high organic matter decomposition. Carbon and nutrient budgets in the grassland were all negative. Our results revealed that the village average livestock density (4.4 TLU ha−1: TLU means tropical livestock unit) was sufficient for P, Ca and Mg balance in the home garden, whereas it was not sufficient for N and K balance. Increasing livestock density improved the nutrient balance of the system. However, it is noteworthy that 33%–47% of the feed supplied as C and nutrients was collected from outside the home gardens, suggesting a high reliance on external inflow to fulfil feed demands. In conclusion, intensive livestock dung application to banana cultivation was fundamental for maintaining agricultural productivity to replenish the nutrients lost from the system. A new stereoisomer of an araguspongine/xestospongin alkaloid, named araguspongine M (1), has been isolated together with 12 known compounds, araguspongines B (2) and D (3), dopamine, three galactosyl diacylglycerols, 24-methyl cholesterol, 5,6-dihydrocholesterol, β-sitosterol, and three 5α,8α-epidioxy sterols (11–13), from the marine sponge Neopetrosia exigua (formerly Xestospongia exigua) collected in Palau. The structure of 1 was assigned on the basis of its spectral data analysis. This is the first report on the isolation of dopamine from a marine sponge. This compound may be produced by an endosymbiotic Synechococcus-like cyanobacterium. Compounds 1–3 and 11–13 showed cytotoxicity against HL-60 at IC50’s of 5.5, 5.5, 5.9, 22.4, 9.5, and 9.6 μM, respectively. The mechanism and lateral bearing capacity of reinforcement concrete (RC) frame with dry stack in filled panel (DSIP) were investigated using quasi static experiments and finite element models. According to the parallel model and equivalent strut model, the lateral bearing capacity of RC frame and DSIP were researched separately. Results show that: 1) The plain stress element and interface element are applicable in finite element (FE) model analysis. According to the FE model, the failure of RC frame with DSIP is caused by the damage of frame; 2) Lateral bearing capacity of DSIP is mainly from the friction between bricks in the panel, which can be divided into 3 stages: constant stage, increasing stage and ultimate stage; 3) Equations for lateral bearing capacity of DSIP were proposed and verified by FE model results. 相似文献
