1. The genetics of plumage colour of a melanotic columbian‐restricted male called ‘Melanotic Prat’ is described. It was found among the F2 progeny of crosses between the Castellana and Prat breeds, and is very similar to the ‘quail’ phenotype.

2. Results of crosses involving this male indicate that its plumage colour pattern is the result of the Ml/Ml genotype adding black pigment to the Columbian plumage pattern produced by the e Wh and Co genes.

3. The melanotic gene (Ml) is recessive in the presence of the colum‐bian‐restricted genotype. It has no effect on the chick down colour although it could be a modifier to produce greyish or black back colourations when Co is present in the genotype.

4. It is suggested that the quail plumage colour is due to the same melanotic factor interacting with the primary pattern of a Columbian‐restricted genotype.  相似文献

Samples of semen from 12 pigs, three from Yorkshire, Landrace, Duroc and Mexican Hairless each where obtained to study cryopreservation methods. Three stages of boar semen cryopreservation were evaluated: none (fresh stage), cooling at 5 degrees C and freezing at -196 degrees C then thawing to 56 degrees C for 12 sec. Perinuclear theca damage and domain alterations were selected as indices of seminal quality, as measured by electronic and fluorescence microcopy, respectively according to two lineal models considering by separately the effect of semen preservation and breed. Integrity and absence of perinuclear theca significantly (p < 0.001) decreased and increased, respectively according to a decrease in temperature of cryopreservation, from 87.4 to 58.8% and from 0.8 to 26.2%, respectively. This same significant (p < 0.001) effect was found for acrosomal and post-acrosomal membrane distribution of domains, from 92.1 to 76.8% and from 3.1 to 13.1% in this same order. Slight but highly significant (p < 0.001) differences were observed when theca integrity was evaluated as affected by breed, with highest and lowest values for Yorkshire and Pel6n Mexicano pigs, respectively. No breed effect was encountered for presence of acrosomal domains. A strong interdependence was found between perinuclear theca damage and domain distribution. In this connection, a highly significant (p < 0.001) positive, interdependence was observed between the theca damage and acrosomal domain (r = 0.87), while this same relationship was although highly significant (p < 0.001), negative in nature for equatorial and post-acrosonal domains (r = -0.77 and -0.85, respectively). This experiment confirmed that cryopreservation methods may severely affect semen quality of pigs and that genotype may further influence these same indices. More research is needed for improving methods of preservation of pig semen quality, from the point of view of perinuclear theca and domain characteristics of spermatozoa.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Field trials were conducted during the wet and dry seasons in periurban and semi‐rural cemeteries in southern Mexico to determine the efficacy of a suspension concentrate formulation of spinosad (Tracer 480SC) on the inhibition of development of Aedes albopictus L. and Ae. aegypti Skuse. For this, oviposition traps were treated with spinosad (1 or 5 mg L?1), Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti, VectoBac 12AS), a sustained release formulation of temephos and a water control. RESULTS: Ae. albopictus was subordinate to Ae. aegypti during the dry season, but became dominant or codominant during the wet season at both sites. The two species could not be differentiated in field counts on oviposition traps. Mean numbers of larvae + pupae of Aedes spp. in Bti‐treated containers were similar to the control at both sites during both seasons. The duration of complete absence of aquatic stages varied from 5 to 13 weeks for the spinosad treatments and from 6 to 9 weeks for the temephos treatment, depending on site, season and product concentration. Predatory Toxorhynchites theobaldi Dyar and Knab suffered low mortality in control and Bti treatments, but high mortality in spinosad and temephos treatments. Egg counts and percentage of egg hatch of Aedes spp. increased significantly between the dry and wet seasons, but significant treatment differences were not detected. CONCLUSION: Temephos granules and a suspension concentrate formulation of spinosad were both highly effective larvicides against Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus. These compounds merit detailed evaluation for inclusion in integrated control programs targeted at Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus in regions where they represent important vectors of human diseases. In this study the employment of zeolitic products on microalgae culture is continued. In this case some new products are tested, especially ZESTEC-56. All of which have been prepared in our laboratory. The diatom Chaetoceros gracilis is used. A commercial fertilizer is experimented on as a nutrient. The optimum dose of this fertilizer has been calculated. The best yield (g diatom/litre) of the culture concern the zeolitic products called ZEBEN-56 and ZECER-56, although a dose of 5 mg/liter of ZESTEC-56 produces important cellular growth, particularly when associated to a silicate solution.  相似文献

The concept is presented of combined cultivation of legumes and sorghum–maize and their use as conserved ruminant feed in tropical regions, with special reference to Cuba. Good yields are obtained during the rainy season through intercropping (alternate rows of either sorghum or maize and soybean). When followed by ensiling, this provides high‐quality ruminant feed for the tropical dry season. Soybean compensates for the low crude protein content of sorghum, whereas sorghum allows good silage quality in combination with legumes. The paper reviews and updates recent studies assessing combined sorghum–soybean cultivation and ensiling as well as determination of their feed value. The high nutritive quality and forage potential when these crops are intercropped demonstrate that silage from these plants can be used successfully in ruminant diets in Cuba and other tropical areas. Perspectives for new studies in this field are suggested, particularly with legume species that are more adapted to specific tropical regions and/or with higher forage yield. In addition, it is suggested that there is a need to assess the supplementation impact on meat and milk production at the farm level, as well as its environmental impact, when ruminants are fed combined silages from whole plants of sorghum–legumes.  相似文献

In the Transmexican Volcanic Belt a traditional fallow system is practiced, called “ año y vez ” (AV), which does not benefit soil conservation due to its low level of nutrient recycling and because soil protection is poor during the cultivation year. The objective of the present work was to measure runoff and soil and nutrient losses during three annual cycles (2002–2004) in Central Mexico under AV rotation and two alternative systems: improved traditional (IT) and traditional organic (TO). Soil losses in the three systems were moderate (<1.2 Mg ha−1 y−1) except during 2002, in which significant soil losses were recorded in IT and TO due to the scarcity of plant cover (<20 per cent) that was present throughout the rainy season. During the resting period of the AV system (2003), the annual runoff increased from 19 to about 600 per cent, compared to IT and TO without grazing. The difference in runoff was attributed to an 18 per cent increase in bulk density of soil surface (0–5 cm) caused by cattle trampling while grazing. Nutrient losses in the three treatments were mainly of N, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, and K+. These results suggest that AV has a higher topsoil degradation effect during the resting year than during the cultivation period. The study shows that incorporating the maize/beans‐black oat rotation and residue cover causes a low runoff response that is important in reducing soil degradation. A 9-year-old Quarter Horse mare was referred for evaluation of continuous oestrus, polyuria and suspected pyometra after a glass marble was placed in the uterus by the owner. Palpation per rectum and transrectal ultrasonography confirmed the presence of a spherical object, but it was not possible to discern whether it was located within the lumen of the uterus or urinary bladder. Thus, an endoscopic examination of both uterus and bladder was carried out and a spherical, spiculated surface urolith was found on the floor of the bladder. The cystic urolith with suspected marble core was removed using a 12-mm specimen retrieval bag with endoscopic guidance. Follow-up with the owner one month after discharge revealed that the mare had not shown any signs of discomfort while urinating nor signs of oestrus.  相似文献

This work investigates mangrove tree zonation dynamics in a deltaic fan in the southwestern coast of Mexico. A hypothetical evolution that led to the formation and consolidation of the Arroyo Seco deltaic fan based on the environmental components from the hydrographic basin is proposed. Also, the relief morphogenetic types, along with their sedimentary composition, are derived from geomorphologic and edaphic diagnose methods. Finally, mangrove tree zonation, basal area and height along transects traced parallel to the relief are related to morphogenetic types and to the water table depth during the dry period. There was a clear sedimentological evidence of the accretion process in the deltaic fan. The accretion horizons conditioned the water table, which increased in depth from the margin of the lagoon to the hinterland, thus changing among geoforms. It was much greater at the middle part of the transects, where continental or lagoon water did not infiltrate due to high resistance of clayey soils. The geomorphic zonation of mangrove communities in the Arroyo Seco deltaic fan is: (1) a low fluvial distributary accumulative plain, with coconut palm plantations; (2) a bank fluvial accumulative plain between distributary channels, with coconut palm plantations and patches of low tropical forest; (3) a relatively high swamp accumulative plain, flooded during high water levels, with Avicennia germinans; (4) a low swamp, temporarily flooded accumulative plain, with Rhizophora mangle, Laguncularia racemosa and A. germinans; (5) a very low swamp, permanently flooded accumulative plain, with distributary channels, lateral microbars and tide microdepressions, where Rhizophora and Laguncularia codominate; and (6), a Rhizophora fringe and colonization area along the fan's frontal edge on the same plain. Along this gradient composed of six mangrove communities, basal area and height tended to increase as the water table reached soil level.  相似文献
