Focal intramural nodules were palpated in the rectal wall of a 12-year-old pony mare presented for rectal prolapse. Eosinophilic proctitis was diagnosed by examination of fine needle aspirates and biopsy of the largest rectal nodule. After treatment with a course of corticosteroids, the rectal nodule and accompanying peripheral eosinophilia resolved. There was no recurrence of the condition during the follow-up period of 20 months. Focal eosinophilic proctitis appeared to be an unusual cause of tenesmus and rectal prolapse in this case.  相似文献

The objective of this study was the electron microscope examination of the localization of lipid droplets, mitochondria and other intracellular organelles in bovine oocytes and cumulus cells after Cytochalasin B pre-treatment and ultra-centrifugation. Bovine (n = 180) oocyte cumulus complexes on a germinal vesicle stage were treated with 5 micrograms/ml Cytochalasin B at 38.5 degrees C for 10-15 min. They were then centrifuged at 15,800 g and fixed at 39 degrees C immediately after centrifugation in 3% glutaraldehyde with 0.5% formaldehyde for the microscopic examinations. The centrifugal pole of the oocytes was filled with mitochondria. The centripetal part contained lipid granules and vesicles. Cytoplasm of low density was located in the equatorial region. Hyaloplasm with spontaneously formed membrane and non-membrane vacuoles was located in a supra-equatorial zone of the oocytes. In the cumulus cells the lipid vesicles formed one dark mass in the centripetal pole. The nuclei of these cells were deformed and vacuolization of the cytoplasm was noted.  相似文献

An eight-year-old, entire female Pekingese cross, weighing 3.8 kg, had been inappetent with fever, depression, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea for seven days. The radiographic and ultrasonographic findings were consistent with glomerulonephritis, nephrolithiasis in both kidneys, bladder calculi and an accumulation of fluid in the left perinephric space. The clinical signs, together with the results of the diagnostic imaging, suggested that this fluid could be pus. A definitive diagnosis of a subcapsular abscess in the left kidney was established when this kidney was removed surgically. A histopathological examination of the kidney revealed a diffuse suppurative interstitial nephritis, membranous glomerulonephritis and an abscess invading the perinephric adipose tissue from the renal cortex. Twelve months after surgery the dog remains clinically stable, but owing to the disease of its remaining kidney its long-term prognosis is poor.  相似文献

The need to boost agricultural production in the coming decades in a climate change scenario requires new approaches for the development of new crop varieties that are more resilient and more efficient in the use of resources. Crop wild relatives (CWRs) are a source of variation for many traits of interest in breeding, in particular tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses. However, their potential in plant breeding has largely remained unexploited. CWRs can make an effective contribution to broadening the genetic base of crops and to introgressing traits of interest, but their direct use by breeders in breeding programs is usually not feasible due to the presence of undesirable traits in CWRs (linkage drag) and frequent breeding barriers with the crop. Here we call for a new approach, which we tentatively call ‘introgressiomics’, which consists of mass scale development of plant materials and populations with introgressions from CWRs into the genetic background of crops. Introgressiomics is a form of pre-emptive breeding and can be focused, when looking for specific phenotypes, or un-focused, when it is aimed at creating highly diverse introgressed populations. Exploring germplasm collections and identifying adequate species and accessions from different genepools encompassing a high diversity, using different strategies like the creation of germplasm diversity sets, Focused identification of germplasm strategy (FIGS) or gap analysis, is a first step in introgressiomics. Interspecific hybridization and backcrossing is often a major barrier for introgressiomics, but a number of techniques can be used to potentially overcome these and produce introgression populations. The generation of chromosome substitution lines (CSLs), introgression lines (ILs), or multi-parent advanced inter-cross (MAGIC) populations by means of marker-assisted selection allows not only the genetic analysis of traits present in CWRs, but also developing genetically characterized elite materials that can be easily incorporated in breeding programs. Genomic tools, in particular high-throughput molecular markers, facilitate the characterization and development of introgressiomics populations, while new plant breeding techniques (NPBTs) can enhance the introgression and use of genes from CWRs in the genetic background of crops. An efficient use of introgressiomics populations requires moving the materials into breeding pipelines. In this respect public–private partnerships (PPPs) can contribute to an increased use of introgressed materials by breeders. We hope that the introgressiomics approach will contribute to the development of a new generation of cultivars with dramatically improved yield and performance that may allow coping with the environmental changes caused by climate change while at the same time contributing to a more efficient and sustainable agriculture.  相似文献

Administration of hormones to synchronize oestrus is a useful tool in animal breeding. However, exogenous ovarian stimulation may be detrimental to reproductive function. This study was aimed to examine whether an oestrus synchronization with PGF2α/eCG/hCG could affect luteal P4 synthesis in early pregnant gilts. Corpora lutea (CLs) were collected on days 9, 12 and 16 of pregnancy from gilts with natural (n = 16) and synchronized (n = 18) oestrus and analysed for (i) the expre‐ssion of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR), cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily A polypeptide (CYP11A1), and 3β‐hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3βHSD); (ii) the concentration of P4 in the luteal tissue and blood; and (iii) the expression of luteinizing hormone receptors (LHR) and oestrogen receptors (ERα and ERβ). Additionally, the effect of LH on P4 secretion from CL slices collected from synchronized and naturally ovulated animals has been studied in vitro. PGF2α/eCG/hCG administration increased mRNA expression of StAR, CYP11A1, 3βHSD, and LHR on day 9 and CYP11A1 and LHR on day 12 of pregnancy compared with the control group (p < 0.05). CYP11A1, 3βHSD, LHR, ERα and ERβ proteins were not affected by synchronization; only StAR protein increased in hormonally treated animals (p = 0.017). The concentration of P4 in luteal tissue was greater on day 9 (p < 0.01), but lower on day 16 (p < 0.05) in gilts with hormonally induced oestrus compared with control animals. Blood serum levels of P4 were lower in synchronized than control gilts (p < 0.001). Synchronization did not affect LH‐stimulated P4 secretion from luteal slices; however, greater basal concentration of P4 in incubation medium was detected for CLs collected from synchronized than control gilts (p < 0.05). In conclusion, synchronization of oestrus with PGF2α/eCG/hCG protocol in gilts did not impair the expression of luteal P4 synthesis system, although decreased P4 concentration in the blood.  相似文献

Climatic Limits on Landscape Development in the Northwestern Himalaya   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The interaction between tectonism and erosion produces rugged landscapes in actively deforming regions. In the northwestern Himalaya, the form of the landscape was found to be largely independent of exhumation rates, but regional trends in mean and modal elevations, hypsometry (frequency distribution of altitude), and slope distributions were correlated with the extent of glaciation. These observations imply that in mountain belts that intersect the snowline, glacial and periglacial processes place an upper limit on altitude, relief, and the development of topography irrespective of the rate of tectonic processes operating.  相似文献

Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) is a limiting factor for the success of pepino (Solarium muricatum) as a new crop. The effects of ToMV infection on total and marketable yield, fruit weight, length/width ratio and soluble solids content (SSC) have been studied in two commercial clones (`Sweet Long' and `Sweet Round'). ToMV infection depressed total yield in infected plants of `Sweet Long' (43.1%), while it had no effect on this trait in `Sweet Round' . Marketable yield was dramatically reduced by ToMV infection in both clones, 94% in `Sweet Long' and 100% in `Sweet Round'. Infected plants of clone `Sweet Long' had a lower weight than healthy plants. Although no differences in fruit weight were detected in `Sweet Round' between ToMV infected and healthy plants, many fruits from infected plants showed deformities. Changes in fruit length/width ratio and SSC as a result of ToMV infection were not relevant, but fruit quality was lower in infected fruits, most of which had corky-like flesh. Forty-two clones from cultivated (S. muricatum), wild (S. caripense and S. tabanoense) and interspecific hybrids were tested for ToMV resistance. All but seven clones (four from S. muricatum and three from interspecific hybrids S. muricatum × S. caripense) were susceptible. Non-susceptible clones showed variable degrees of resistance and developed hypersensitive local lesions. Among these clones the most promising as sources of variation for resistance to ToMV are those belonging to the cultivated species. Although no immunity was found, plants from these clones remained asymptomatic and absorbance values resulting from the DAS-ELISA tests in these plants were always lower than those of the susceptible control (cv. `Sweet Round'). These sources of resistance may be of great utility in developing commercial clones resistant to this severe disease affecting pepino. The present work presents the application of new markers based on thePCR technology to amplify the complete coding sequence of the specificalleles of the high molecular weight (HMW) glutenin genes. A set ofAS-PCR molecular markers of the Glu-A1 and Glu-D1 genes wasdesigned, making use of the minor differences between the sequences of thex1, xNull and x2 of Glu-A1, x2, x5, y10 and y12 of Glu-D1. These markers were applied to assist selection inbackcross progenies to improve the glutenin quality in Spanish wheat. Theselection was also assisted using other polymorphic systems (AFLPs) inrecovering the genetic background of the recurrent parent.  相似文献

This paper reports the correlation between the rheological properties of bread wheat dough and the types and quantities of endosperm proteins in 28 common wheat cultivars. Different methods were used to analyse the allelic composition of these cultivars and the relative quantities of the different proteins contributing to the gluten structure. Neither dough strength (W) nor tenacity/extensibility (P/L) correlated with allelic composition. Different wheats with the same allelic composition (i.e., with respect to glutenins) showed different rheological properties. The glutenins were the most influential components of W and P/L, especially the high molecular weight (HMW) glutenin subunits and in particular the type x form. These proteins seem to increase W and are the main constituents of the gluten network. The gliadins and low molecular weight (LMW) glutenin subunits appear to act as a “solvent”, and thus modify the rheological properties of the dough by either interfering with the polymerisation of the HMW glutenin subunits, or by altering the relative amounts of the different types of glutenin available. Thus, the protein subunits coded for by the alleles Glu-B1x7 and Glu-D1x5 stabilised the gluten network, whereas those coded for by Glu-B1x17 and Glu-D1x2 had the opposite effect. Dough properties therefore appear to depend on the glutenin/gliadins balance, and on the ratio of the type x and type y HMW proteins. The influence of external factors seems to depend on the allelic composition of each cultivar.  相似文献
