Compositions of the xylem fluid of arsenic (As)-stressed hydroponic barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Minorimugi) were investigated. The seedlings were treated with 0, 6.7, 33.5, and 67???M As in the form of arsenite. The xylem fluids were collected from the cut surface of plants 14?days after treatments and analyzed. Arsenic toxicity reduced the flow rate of xylem fluid. Mineral concentrations of the xylem fluid were measured with particle-induced X-ray emission system, but organic solutes were measured with high-performance liquid chromatography. Arsenic did not influence the concentrations of phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), and iron (Fe) very much. However, the concentrations of manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu) increased resulting in fairly stable translocation of the elements. The concentration and translocation of Ca decreased in the xylem fluid with increasing As concentrations in the medium. Arsenic concentration increased with increasing As in the nutrient solution, but its translocation decreased. Arsenic treatments did not affect phytosiderophore concentration very much, but their translocation decreased. The concentration of citrate increased but that of malate and succinate decreased in 33.5???M As-treated plants.  相似文献

This study examines energy choice, consumption pattern and household energy expenditure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) using the Linear Approximate Almost Ideal Demand System (LA‐AIDS). The study used micro‐level data to estimate the price and expenditure elasticities by employing (SUR) methodology. Empirical findings showed that energy choice, consumption patterns, and demand are different for urban‐rural households in the province. Each household living in KPK spent 1838.81 Rupees (9.92%) on energy purchases out of its total average monthly expenditure of Rs. 18,542.79. Compared to urban households, households living in rural areas spend more on energy consumption in a proportionate manner. The expenditure elasticities estimated for all energy sources are positive and statistically significant. Furthermore, the result showed that expenditure elasticities estimated for urban and rural households are less than one, suggesting that all the sources of energy are necessities. Natural gas and electricity are the main energy sources for urban households, while firewood and electricity are key energy sources for rural households in the province. The study suggested that rural households need to switch from conventional energy sources to modern and renewable energy sources, which would reduce the cost of energy use.  相似文献

Chelating agents, such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) were successfully encapsulated within lipid spherules (that is, liposomes). Encapsutlated [(14)C]EDTA, given intravenously to mice, was retained longer in tissues that nonencapsulated [(14)C]EDTA. Encapsulated DTPA, given to mice 3 days after pluttonium injection, removed an additional fraction of plutonium in the liver, presumably intracellular, not available to nonencapslulated DTPA. It also further increased urinary excretion of plutonium. Introduction of chelating agents into cells by liposomal encapsulation is a promising new approach to the treatment of metal poisoning  相似文献

Walleye dermal sarcoma virus (WDSV) is a type of retrovirus, which affects most of the adult walleye fishes during the spawning time. The virus causes multiple epithelial tumors on the fish’s skin and fins that are liable for more than 50% of the mortality rate of fish around the world. Till now, no effective antiviral drug or vaccine candidates have been developed that can block the progression of the disease caused by the pathogen. It was found that the 582-amino-acid (aa) residues long internal structural gag polyprotein of the virus plays an important role in virus budding and virion maturation outside of the cell. Inhibition of the protein can block the budding and virion maturation process and can be developed as an antiviral drug candidate against the virus. Therefore, the study aimed to identify potential natural antiviral drug candidates from the tropical mangrove marine plant Avicennia alba, which will be able to block the budding and virion maturation process by inhibiting the activity of the gag protein of the virus. Initially, a homology modeling approach was applied to identify the 3D structure, followed by refinement and validation of the protein. The refined protein structures were then utilized for molecular docking simulation. Eleven phytochemical compounds have been isolated from the marine plant and docked against the virus gag polyprotein. Three compounds, namely Friedlein (CID244297), Phytosterols (CID12303662), and 1-Triacontanol (CID68972) have been selected based on their docking score −8.5 kcal/mol, −8.0 kcal/mol and −7.9 kcal/mol, respectively, and were evaluated through ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion), and toxicity properties. Finally, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was applied to confirm the binding stability of the protein-ligands complex structure. The ADME and toxicity analysis reveal the efficacy and non-toxic properties of the compounds, where MD simulation confirmed the binding stability of the selected three compounds with the targeted protein. This computational study revealed the virtuous value of the selected three compounds against the targeted gag polyprotein and will be effective and promising antiviral candidates against the pathogen in a significant and worthwhile manner. Although in vitro and in vivo study is required for further evaluation of the compounds against the targeted protein.  相似文献

Hilsa shad, Tenualosa ilisha (Hamilton), in Bangladesh is found in inland rivers, estuaries and the marine environment, throughout the year, but the peak catch period is during upstream migration. Tissue (white muscle, liver, brain) samples (total 640 specimens) were collected from three different localities, representing marine, brackish and fresh water, during the monsoon in the summer of the years 1993–1996 to identify genetic markers and study the population structure of this species. The samples were analysed by starch gel electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing, and stained for 15 enzymes and general muscle proteins. Only phosphoglucomutase, aspartate amino transferase, esterase and unidentified muscle proteins were found to be polymorphic. The allele frequencies for the samples collected in the marine environment deviated from corresponding samples from freshwater and estuarine localities, indicating that hilsa shad in Bangladesh waters comprise more than one gene pool.  相似文献

The ethanolic extract of Leucas aspera root was subjected to acetic acid induced writhing inhibition, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay and brine shrimp lethality bioassay for screening of antinociceptive, antioxidant and cytotoxic activity, respectively. The extract produced significant writhing inhibition in acetic acid induced writhing in mice at the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg. The extract showed a significant free radical scavenging activity with an IC(50) of 8 microg/ml. The extract showed significant lethality to brine shrimp with an LC(50) value.  相似文献

Aerolysin (aer) is one of the most important and abundant virulence factors in the infection of fish by Aeromonas veronii. A comprehensive study on the molecular characterization and pathogenicity of the aer gene from 34 A. veronii isolates from diseased carp and catfish was carried out and its interactome was analysed to observe the functional correlations between aer and other proteins within the A. veronii network. The PCR‐based amplification of aer from the 34 isolates of A. veronii showed more aer‐positive isolates from catfish with a high pathogenic potential in the in vivo challenge test than the carp fish. The analysis of aer gene sequence from challenged fish revealed significant sequence divergence according to the types and geographical distribution of the fish. The networking analysis of aer from the model A. veronii B565 revealed histidine kinase (cheA) as the most functional interacting partner. The study of the interaction between aer from the experimental A. veronii and cheA demonstrated that the A chain of cheA plays a more important role than the corresponding B chain during contact, and a linker sequence of 15 residues controlled the entire interaction process. Therefore, cheA could be an excellent drug target for controlling A. veronii infection of fish.  相似文献

A 150‐days study was conducted on the continuous exposure of magnetized water at 0.00, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 Tesla (T) on quadruplicate treatments of Jade Perch Scortum barcoo juveniles in a recirculating system. Each replicate consisted of 18 fish with an average weight of 7.52 g over all treatments. The feeding efficiencies, growth, whole‐body proximate plasma parameters, survival were measured and liver histopathology was observed. Our results show no significant improvement in water quality parameters, specific growth rate and body weight gain in this study. However, the best feed conversion ratio was recorded in fish exposed to 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 T, which are significantly better than the control 0.00 T. Though survival was unaffected but plasma biochemistry and liver histopathology were affected even within the treatment. No liver, plasma or blood abnormalities were detected in fish exposed to 0.10 T and the control 0.00 T. But, one out of four livers from fish in the 0.15 T treatment showed a localized inflammatory response. These changes increased in the liver of fish exposed to 0.20 T, high AST and necrosis in this group is evidence of the liver cells damaged or been at risk. A significantly higher crude protein and lipid were noticed in the exposed fish compared with the control, 0.15 T had the highest crude protein and lipid while the control has the lowest. Based on the overall findings, on growth performance and looking at other factors like absence of any physiological disorder 0.10 T can be used as an effective and affordable technique improve the feeding efficiencies of Jade Perch.  相似文献

This study was conducted to characterize the causative agent of streptococcosis in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and control of Streptococcus infection by means of garlic (Allium sativum) supplementation. The morphological, biochemical and polymerase chain reaction amplification confirmed 11 isolates belong to Streptococcus iniae from the infected fish eyes and tissue samples. Random screening of 12 well‐known medicinal plant parts against S. iniae revealed the garlic extract as the most effective herbal recovery against Streptococcus infection. In vivo challenge test with dietary supplementation of garlic powder significantly improved survival rates of fish against S. iniae infections, and modulate the microbial community and cytokine gene expression profiling in the intestine of the experimental tilapia. Among the two garlic supplemented treatments, 1.0 g garlic supplemented diet significantly increased (p < 0.05) the survival rates of tilapia and the gut bacterial operational transitional units abundance for Proteobacteria and Tenericutes, the phyla associated with healthy intestinal flora. The bacterial diversity index also found high with garlic supplemented diets. Significant upregulations of IL‐10 and IL‐17F gene expression in the intestinal tissue were observed with 1.0 g garlic supplemented diet where IL‐8 and IL‐1β expression levels were relatively static. The dietary supplementation of garlic, therefore, could be effective in the prevention of S. iniae infection in fish.  相似文献
