The aim of the present work was to evaluate the breed and season effects on scrotal circumference (SC) and semen characteristics of 28 mature hair sheep rams kept under tropical conditions. SCs, sperm concentration (SPC) and abnormal sperm were significantly affected by breed effect (p < 0.001). The season effect was significant in SPC (p < 0.0001) while ejaculate volume, mass motility and SPC were affected by breed × season interaction effect (p < 0.001). It can be concluded that the magnitude of the breed and season effects were not sufficient to affect the reproductive capacity of hair sheep rams throughout the year.  相似文献

Chestnut blight caused by Cryphonectria parasitica is a serious disease of Castanea sativa in the Black Sea region of Turkey. During disease surveys, dieback and decline symptoms were observed on trees without apparent blight and ink disease symptoms. Black necroses, similar to those caused by Phytophthora infections, were noted on some of the chestnut coppices and saplings in one nursery in Ordu and led to an investigation into this disease complex. Only symptomatic plants showing dieback symptoms were investigated. Soil samples together with fine roots were collected from two directions, north and north‐east, approximately 150 cm away from the main stems. Phytophthora spp. were baited with young chestnut leaves. Three Phytophthora spp., P. cambivora, P. cinnamomi and P. plurivora, were identified from 12 soil samples collected from 73 locations, while from the nurseries, only P. cinnamomi was obtained. Phytophthora cinnamomi was the most common species, obtained from seven locations in five provinces and from four nurseries having similar symptoms mentioned above in different locations. Phytophthora cambivora and P. plurivora were less frequently obtained, from three to two stands, respectively. Phytophthora cinnamomi and P. cambivora were the most aggressive species when inoculated at the stem base on 3‐year‐old chestnut saplings, killing six saplings of eight inoculated in 2 months. The three Phytophthora species were first recorded on chestnut in Black sea region of Turkey with the limited samples investigated in a large area about 150 000 ha chestnut forest.  相似文献

Present study reported the variation in electrophoretic seed subfraction (albumins, globulin A, globulin B, glutelins) patterns in some Lathyrus species collected from their natural habitats different localities in Turkey. Electrophoretic data were documented by using a gel documentation system (Bio-Rad, USA) and analysed by using Quantity 1-D analysis software and also the dendograms were formed with 4.0% tolerance in UPGAMA (Unweighed Pair-Group Arithmetic Mean). The differences among species were observed and all seven species were clearly identifiable from the protein patterns. The dendograms obtained from cluster analysis of seed storage proteins data showed examined species have displayed a number of distinct relationships. According to our results, it seems justified to recommend a wider use of electrophoretic analysis of seed storage proteins in taxonomic investigations of leguminous plants.  相似文献

Almond (Prunus dulcis) is one of the well known stone fruit species grown for its unripe fruits and delicious seeds in Turkey. In the Trakya region, however, some prevailing virus infections have reduced almond yields and quality. In ten districts of Trakya, 260 leaf samples were collected from affected almond trees in June 2010. DAS–ELISA assays and RT-PCR tests were employed for the identification of viruses. As a result of these detection studies, five of the 260 leaf samples gathered from symptomatic almond trees had Plum pox virus (PPV), 81 of them had Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV), and 11 samples contained Prune dwarf virus (PDV). Only four out of 260 samples had a mixture of these viruses. Partial nucleotide sequences of five almond isolates of PPV were determined and compared with 17 other PPV isolates in databases. Computer analysis of obtained and published nucleotide sequences showed identity ranged from 75.72% to 96.87%. Of the five PPV almond isolates obtained, however, there was a close nucleotide identity of 95.82–96.61% to Turkish isolates. Phylogenetic analysis of nucleotides and amino acids showed that five PPV isolates of almond from the Trakya Region of Turkey were clustered in the same subgroup with PPV-T Turkish isolates in GenBank. Therefore we can consider almond isolates of PPV as PPV-T strain, like the two other isolates from apricot trees in Turkey.  相似文献

Meat quality characteristics of Bafra ram lambs slaughtered at different weights were investigated. A total of 24 lambs fattened intensively was slaughtered at four slaughter weights of 30, 35, 40, and 45 kg. Water-holding capacity, cooking loss, tenderness, color, as well as protein content did not vary significantly among the slaughter weight groups, although the 30-kg slaughter weight lambs displayed the greatest postmortem pH fall in musculus longissimus dorsi (P?<?0.05). As slaughter weight increased, intramuscular fat of musculus longissimus dorsi showed an increasing nutritive value (P?<?0.05), total unsaturated fatty acids/saturated fatty acids ratio (P?<?0.05), and n6/n3 ratio (P?<?0.05). However, atherogenic index and thrombogenic index values decreased with increasing slaughter weight, although this effect was not significant. The effect of slaughter weight on total cholesterol was not pronounced.

The aim was to evaluate the effect of corn oil supplementation during postpartum anoestrus on ovarian activity, pregnancy rate, progesterone (P4), and lipid metabolites (cholesterol, CHO; low and high density lipoproteins; LDL and HDL, respectively) concentrations in blood of F1 (Bos taurus × Bos indicus) grazing cows. Cows were randomly assigned to an experimental group, fed with a supplement containing 4% corn oil on dry matter basis (OG, n = 11), and a control group with the same supplement without corn oil (CG, n = 12). Both supplements contained equivalent amounts of crude protein and metabolizable energy and were fed for 34 days continuously. All cows were induced to estrous 12 days after beginning of supplementation by using a synthetic progestagen and artificially inseminated 56 h after retiring the implants. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed by transrectal palpation 45 days after insemination, evaluating simultaneously ovarian activity. P4 and lipid metabolites (CHO, HDL, LDL) concentrations were determined in blood samples collected at 3-day intervals, from the beginning of corn oil supplementation and up to 10 days after artificial insemination. Ovarian activity was affected by treatment (p < 0.05), finding ovarian structures in 72.7% of OG cows and in 50% of CG cows. Concentration of P4 and CHO was higher for OG with respect to CG (2.52 ± 0.65 vs 1.88 ± 0.62 ng/ml and 117.79 ± 11.57 vs 85.71 ± 12.11 mg/dl, respectively), whereas pregnancy rate and blood concentrations of HDL and LDL were not affected by treatment (p > 0.05). Addition of corn oil to the supplement stimulated ovarian activity and increased serum concentrations of progesterone and cholesterol in grazing B. taurus × B. indicus cows with low body condition score showing postpartum anoestrus.  相似文献

Poplar (Populus tremula) was transformed with a construct carrying an antisense caffeic acidO-methyltransferase (COMT) cDNA (pOMT8) from a tropical pasture legume,Stylosanthes humilis. pOMT8 shows 83% overall homology to the corresponding COMT gene (pPCLA) of poplar. Of the 200 putatively-transformed plants regenerated on selective media after co-cultivation of poplar stem explants withAgrobacterium tumefaciens harbouring a CaMV 35S-antisensepOMT8 construct, a subset of 20 plants were randomly chosen for further analysis. PCR and Southern blot analysis demonstrated the stable integration of T-DNA into the genome of these plants. Antisense expression ofpOMT8 resulted in reductions in total COMT activity in the majority of the transgenic plants with the lowest total COMT activities (61–70% of untransformed control plants) being observed in four transgenic plants. The composition of lignin in transgenic plants was also changed, as detected by reductions in the content of syringyl units using infrared spectroscopy. However, no changes were found in the amount of insoluble lignin in transgenic plants as compared to untransformed control plants. These results indicate the potential of thepOMT8 gene to partially suppress COMT activity and modify the composition of lignin in transgenic poplar. In this study, the presence of Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale infection in the avian population in the Marmara and the Western Black Sea region was investigated. Trachea samples were randomly obtained from 96 chickens sent to slaughterhouses. The seroprevalance of the infection was determined in 384 blood sera. Ninety-six of these 384 samples belonged to animals from which trachea samples were obtained. Eleven (11.46%) O. rhinotracheale were isolated in 96 trachea samples taken from 10 different flocks brought to the slaughterhouse. Serotype A was the predominant serotype among the 11 isolates of O. rhinotracheale. One isolate could not be serotyped. O. rhinotracheale antibodies were detected in 251 (64.4%) of the 384 sera, while 55 (14.3%) and 78 (20.3%) were suspected and negative, respectively.  相似文献

Reducing the canopy cover (e.g., forest thinning) is one of the most commonly employed forest silvicultural treatments. Trees are partially removed from a forest in order to manage tree competition, thus favoring the remaining and often the most valuable trees. The properties of the soil are affected by forest thinning as a result of changes in key microclimatic conditions, microbial communities and biomass, root density, nutrient budgets and organic matter turnover. The aim of this study was to determine the soil microbial biomass C, N and respiration (basal respiration) in a black pine (Pinus nigra Arn. subsp. pallasiana) forest in the Mudurnu district of Bolu Province (Western Black Sea Region, Turkey). Whereas forest thinning was found to cause increases in the soil temperature, microbial biomass C and N and organic C, it was found to decrease the soil moisture, basal respiration and metabolic quotient (qCO2). As expected, soil organic C exhibited a strong impact on soil microbial biomass C, N and basal respiration. It was concluded that the influence of forest thinning on the microbial biomass and soil respiration was the combined result of changing microclimatic conditions and soil properties, such as forest litter, soil temperature, soil moisture, soil pH and soil organic matter.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of temperature on survival and sex ratios of guppy Poecilia reticulata (Peters 1860) was investigated. Treatments of 19, 21 and 22.5°C low and 29, 32 and 35°C high water temperature were used on fry and gravid females for 11 days after parturitions and several days starting from the 16th day after first parturition until second parturition respectively. The high water temperature treatments caused the death of gravid females. Survival rates of heat‐treated fry were generally decreased with increasing and decreasing temperature. The sex ratios of the progenies from survived gravid females were not differed from a balanced sex ratio (P>0.05). The proportion of females increased gradually with decreasing temperature and the proportion of males increased gradually with increasing temperatures rather than having a threshold response in heat‐treated fry. However, mortality of heat‐treated fry was high; it is most likely that our results were biased by sex‐dependent mortality, which were also revealed by corrected sex ratios of the treatment groups and progeny testing of some individuals. These results suggest that a major gene linked to X‐chromosome could be responsible for resistance and sensitivity to both high and low temperature.  相似文献
