Tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) serves as the rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of serotonin, and two forms of TPH genes, TPH1 and TPH2, have been reported with specific nucleotide sequences and expression patterns. We determined the sequences of these two genes and identified polymorphisms within their coding regions. We identified five novel single nucleotide polymorphisms in the TPH2 gene, one of which resulted in a non-synonymous mutation and the remaining four in synonymous mutations. Comparison of the genotype frequencies of the polymorphisms among five popular breeds with different behavioral traits revealed statistically significant interbreed differences for three polymorphisms. These results suggest that these polymorphisms would be useful genetic markers when performing behavior studies in dogs. 相似文献

Seven Holstein-Friesian cows showing chronic nephropathy were studied by renal microangiography and its correlated histopathology. In cases of pyelonephritis associated with severe pathological lesions such as thickening of arterial walls, narrowing of the arterial and arteriolar lumen, and interstitial inflammation and abscess formation, patchy loss of the peritubular capillary plexus from the cortex to the medulla was clearly demonstrated by microangiography. Interlobular arteries were tortuous and attenuated or truncated. Opacification in the vasa rectae and interstitial capillaries was increased. Extensive non-perfused regions could be detected in the cortex. In cases of mild interstitial nephritis and moderate pyelonephritis, microangiography showed focal changes in the renal vasculature. Microangiography is thus shown to clearly demonstrate changes in the renal vasculature corresponding to the severity of the histopathological lesions. 相似文献

We examined the walking parameters of milking cows in relation to hoof trimming. The hooves of eight Holstein cows were trimmed. Two days before and after the hoof trimming, walking behavior, limb angles, back posture and vertical movement of the back while walking were measured. Walking rate (1.27 vs 0.87 m/s; P = 0.003), step length (1.46 vs 1.33 m; P = 0.009) and stepping rate (0.78 vs 0.65 steps/s; P = 0.046) were found to increase significantly after hoof trimming. Limb angles at the start and end of the support phase changed significantly after hoof trimming, thus indicating an improvement in the ‘on tiptoe’ appearance. The parameters relating to backline indicated that the marked arched shape of the back diminished after hoof trimming. Before hoof trimming, the positions of the withers varied widely and irregularly while walking; however, it changed after hoof trimming as the sinusoid curve and the range of vertical movement of withers decreased significantly. Overall, it has been quantitatively indicated that walking characteristics are improved after hoof trimming. The influence of prednisolone on granulocyte kinetics in calves was evaluated under nonsteady state conditions, using chromium-51 as a cell label. The kinetic pattern observed was similar to that described for persons. Interpretation of results indicated that alteration from steady state to granulocytosis was the result of an increase in input from the storage pool and that shifts occurred in the distribution of cells between the marginating and circulating pools during the period of rapidly changing kinetic patterns. Granulocyte kinetic variables of a calf under induced physiologic stress demonstrated a kinetic pattern similar to that of the calves given prednisolone. There was a rapid enlargement of the total granulocyte pool size and a greater than twofold increase in clearance halftime compared with those in calves of a similar age group. 相似文献

The hematocrits of 258 Holstein-Friesian and Jersey calves were determined during the first 3 days following birth. Hematocrit values of 25% or less were observed in 15.8% of the calves and hematocrits of 20% or less were observed in 6.9% of calves from apparently normal dams. The serum iron concentration of neonatal calves with hematocrits of 25% or less was significantly lower than the value recorded in calves with hematocrits above 25% and there was a direct correlation between PCV and serum iron concentration. The data presented suggested that prenatal development of iron deficiency is an important cause of anemia in neonatal dairy calves. Factors which may be important in pathogenesis are discussed. 相似文献

Hospitalized animals and stray dogs were serologically tested for antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii. In addition, the data were examined for the possibility of toxoplasmosis infection being associated with the clinical diagnosis and with the discharge status (alive vs. dead). Among 1056 hospitalized animals, 17 (20%) of 86 cats, 112 (14%) of 804 dogs, 34 (26%) of 133 horses and 6 (18%) of 33 cattle had serological evidence of infection with T. gondii. Only 22 (6%) of 342 young (median age = one year) stray dogs were seropositive. The difference in antibody prevalence between hospitalized and stray dogs was thought to be due to age and dietary factors. Of 249 dogs grouped by clinical diagnosis, there was significantly (p less than 0.01) higher prevalence of seropositives among dogs with diseases of the kidney or with adrenocortical hyperfunction than among dogs hospitalized for other diseases. Of 19 dogs with diseases of the kidney and 12 with adrenocortical hyperfunction 37% and 42%, respectively, were seropositive.. There was higher risk of being discharged from the hospital dead among seropositive dogs, cattle and horses than among seronegative animals of the same species. The exception was cats, where of 69 seronegative cats 29% were dead at discharge and where of 17 seropositive cats 18% were dead at discharge. The anemia of inflammatory disease (AID) in the dog is an almost invariable complication of infection, inflammation and disseminated or necrotizing neoplastic disease. Clinically innocuous, it is important only in the greater under-standing of the mechanisms controlling circulating erythrocyte quantity and quality. The etiology and pathogenesis include a shortened red cell life-span, disordered iron metabolism, depressed bone marrow response to the anemia and a disordered iron storage. The laboratory features of a moderate anemia, normal bone marrow cellular pattern, depression in iron metabolism and reticuloendothelial iron sequestration make a final diagnosis of AID dependent on ruling out other etiologic mechanisms which may obscure or aggravate the anemia of inflammatory disease in the dog.
Kurzfassung Die Anämie der entzündlichen Erkrankung des Hundes ist eine komplizierende Begleiterscheinung von Infektionen, Entzündungen und disseminierten oder neoplastischen Erkrankungen. Klinisch unbedeutend ist diese Anämie nur im Sinne eines weiteren Verständnisses der Mechanismen bedeutsam, die Zahl und Menge der zirkulierenden Erythrozyten kontrollieren. Atiologie und Pathogenese umfassen eine verkürzte Lebensdauer der Erythrozyten, Störungen im Eisenstoffwechsel, unterdrückte Knochenmarksreaktion auf die Anämie und eine gestörte Eisenspeicherung. Laborwerte wie moderate Anämie, normale Knochenmarkszellbilder, unterdrückter Eisenstoffwechsel und RES-Eisen-Absonderung sprechen für die Diagnose einer Anämie der entzündlichen Erkrankung, vorausgesetzt, dass andere ätiologische Ursachen, die eine Anämie verschleiern oder erschweren können, ausgeschlossen werden.相似文献
