To investigate the distribution of the early stage chondrocytes during the formation and closure of epiphyseal growth plate (EGP) of the domestic cat, we examined the EGP of proximal tibiae by immunohistochemistry for type VI collagen. In the epiphyseal cartilage without the secondary ossification center (SOC) and EGP in newborn cats aged 1 and 10 days, type VI collagen-positive chondrocytes were located around the cartilage canals and articular surface. In the epiphyseal cartilage with the SOC and EGP in young cats aged 1 to 3 months, type VI collagen-positive chondrocytes were located in the upper resting zone of the EGP, and then increased throughout the resting zone along with maturation. In the adult cats with the partially closed EGP, type VI collagen-positive chondrocytes were distributed throughout the remaining EGP. These findings indicate that the early stage chondrocytes characterized with type VI collagen are continuously located in the EGP during maturation. In addition, the increase of the early stage chondrocytes and the decrease of the reserve chondrocytes in the EGP along with maturation may cause the cessation of the longitudinal growth of the EGP, and finally bring about the EGP closure.  相似文献

Anti-bacterial activity of two synthesized oligopeptides, RLYLRIGRR-NH2 (peptide A) and RLRLRIGRR-NH2 (peptide B), both which based on a putative active site of defensin, an anti-bacterial peptide from the beetle Allomyrina dichotoma, was examined by macroscopic and histopathologic assessment during the course of infection in mice inoculated with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in vivo. Both peptides A and B decreased the mortality of mice inoculated with MRSA. Peptides A and B decreased the macroscopical and histopathological lesions by MRSA infection in mice even seven days after the challenge. The anti-bacterial activity of peptides A and B has a therapeutic effect on MRSA infection in mice even seven days after being challenged.  相似文献

Two isolates of mecA-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from retail raw chicken meat were characterized by phenotypic and genotypic methods. One isolate showed the human biovar, coagulase type III, phage group I * III, the lack of production of enterotoxins and TSST-1, and resistance to PCG/ABPC/EM/GM/KM. The other isolate showed the human biovar, coagulase type III, phage group III, production of enterotoxin C and TSST-1, and resistance to PCG/ABPC/CEZ. The biotyping results indicate that the two isolates showed characteristics of human S. aureus. They also harbored SCCmec type IV, which has prevalently been found in community-acquired MRSA isolates. This paper is the first publication regarding MRSA isolates from raw chicken meat in Japan.  相似文献

In this study, we examined oral administration with recombinant R7 (rR7) antigen expressed in Escherichia coli using chicken leucocytozoonosis subunit vaccine (LV)-vaccinated and unvaccinated chickens. Only LV-vaccinated chickens showed re-induction of anti-second-generation schizont (2GS) antibody. Also, LV-vaccinated chickens whose anti-2GS antibody titer was middle-level showed increases of the antibody titer compared to vaccinated-control chickens (P>0.01, >0.05) after oral administration with rR7 antigen.  相似文献

Expression of neurofilament 200 (NF200)-like immunoreactivity was examined in the main olfactory system and the vomeronasal system of the Japanese newt, Cynops pyrrhogaster, using anti-porcine NF200 monoclonal antibody (clone N52) to investigate the differences in phenotypical characteristics between these systems. The entire nasal cavity was a flattened single chamber consisting of the main nasal chamber (MNC) and the lateral nasal sinus (LNS) communicating with each other. The olfactory epithelium (OE) was present in the MNC, and the vomeronasal epithelium (VNE) was in the LNS. The OE possessed only a small number of NF200-like immunoreactive receptor neurons. The olfactory nerve and the olfactory nerve layer of the main olfactory bulb also contained a small number of NF200-like immunoreactive axons. In contrast, the VNE possessed many NF200-like immunoreactive receptor neurons. The vomeronasal nerve and the vomeronasal nerve layer of the accessory olfactory bulb contained many NF200-like immunoreactive axons. These findings in the Japanese newt indicate that NF200-like immunoreactive receptor neurons constitute a major subpopulation in the VNE and a minor subpopulation in the OE. In addition, NF200-like immunoreactivity seems to be a useful marker to distinguish the vomeronasal system from the other nervous systems including the main olfactory system in the Japanese newt. The localization of a few NF200-like immunoreactive receptor neurons in the OE might indicate that pheromone-sensitive receptor neurons are intermingled in the OE of the Japanese newt.  相似文献

The experiment was aimed to test the efficacy of sugar cane extract (SCE) on the modulation of pig immunity under field conditions. The SCE preparation consisted of sugar cane extract (20%) and oilcake of rice bran (80%). SCE (500 mg/kg of body weight per day) was fed to weanling pigs on 3 consecutive days per week for 4 weeks. The results showed a significant enhancement of cytotoxicity of natural killer (NK) cells and phagocytosis by neutrophils and monocytes, compared to untreated pigs. The enhancement of NK cell function may have protected against porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome (PRRS), as there was a reduction in seroconversion rates in treated pigs. Moreover, SCE-treated pigs showed a 7.87% growth enhancement compared with untreated controls. Thus SCE produces an immunostimulative effect on porcine innate immunity that may provide protection against pathogens.  相似文献

In this paper, we report spontaneous gizzard nematodiasis in an adult Japanese mountain hawk eagle (Spizaetus nipalensis). Grossly, the gizzard had a black mucoid substance attached to the surface mucous membrane, and the heart was dilated. Histologically, immature larvae with yellow pigments invaded crypts of the mucous membrane. More developed larvae invaded the lamina propria and muscular layers and serosa of the gizzard, with pressure atrophy and cellular reaction (infiltration of heterophils and macrophages and proliferation of fibrous connective tissue). Moderate bronchopneumonia due to larvae invasion was also seen in the lung. The morphology suggests that the parasites may be nematodes, but the species of nematode could not be confirmed. The bird may have died from malabsorption and respiratory damage as a result of the gizzard and lung lesions.  相似文献

Five methods of testing tears including the Schirmer tear test (STT-1), phenol red thread tear test (PRT) and modified Schirmer tear test (STT-2) were conducted on 44 eyes of 22 normal Beagles, and the tear film break up time (BUT) and lacrimal pH were tested in 32 eyes of 16 normal Beagles. The coefficient of variation of PRT demonstrated a low value (C.V. 14%) compared to the value of STT-1 (C.V. 12%). The lacrimal pH showed a more constant value (C.V. 3%). Measurements of STT-2 (C.V. 48%) and BUT (C.V. 34%) varied significantly. The results show the clinical usefulness of the PRT. Mean values (mean ± SD) of tests were: PRT, 29.3 ± 3.45 mm/15 s; STT-1, 18.89 ± 2.62 mm/60 s; STT-2, 9.52 ± 4.55 mm/60 s; pH, 7.29 ± 0.22 and BUT, 21.53 ± 7.42 s.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to select a suitable location for measuring the subcutaneous fat layer in beagles as an indicator of excess body fat deposition. A location suitable for such a measurement should meet five conditions--it should be easy to: (1) apply the probe, (2) detect the anatomical character of the measurement location, and (3) obtain a reproducible ultrasonogram at all times. In addition, the fat layer should be (4) thick enough for measuring, and (5) located in an area that varies markedly with the degree of obesity. Ultrasonograms made in the transverse planes on the top of the spinous process of the sixth lumbar vertebra, the seventh lumbar vertebra and the first sacral vertebra were found to be suitable for measurement. The depth and area of the back fat layer at these locations were closely related to the degree of obesity.  相似文献

The natural occurrence of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) pollinosis has been reported in dogs with atopic dermatitis. However, the reactivity to Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) pollen allergens in these dogs has not been reported. The present study was designed to investigate the reactivity to Japanese cypress pollen allergens in dogs sensitized to Japanese cedar pollen allergens. In 19 dogs with specific IgE to C. japonica pollen allergen, we measured the specific IgE to C. obtusa pollen allergen and examined the reactivity to the allergen by intradermal test. Of the 19 dogs, 18 had specific IgE to crude and purified major allergens (Cha o 1) of C. obtusa pollen. Most of the dogs showed a positive reaction to C. obtusa pollen allergens in the intradermal test. Allergenic cross-reactivity between Cha o 1 and Cry j 1 (a major allergen in C. japonica pollen) was observed by the ELISA inhibition method. Dogs sensitized to Japanese cedar pollen allergens demonstrate reactivity to Japanese cypress pollen allergens.  相似文献
