Wheaten pocket-type flat breads were baked from refined flours fortified to contain iron from ferrous sulphate (FeSO4), hydrogen-reduced elemental iron (Fe) or sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (NaFeEDTA). Individual and group visual detection thresholds were determined by the 3-alternative forced choice (3-AFC) test according to the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) method E-1432. The group visual detection thresholds of FeSO4, NaFeEDTA and Fe in bread were established in samples baked from the corresponding wheat flours fortified with 69.46, 236.82 and 304.97 mg iron/kg flour, respectively. Sensory testing showed that iron-fortified pocket-type flat breads were similar (P < 0.01) to regular bread when baked from flours formulated to contain iron at levels lower by 25% than the group visual detection thresholds of Fe and FeSO4 and two 25% increments lower than the threshold of NaFeEDTA. These findings indicate that iron-fortified pocket-type flat breads, which are sensorially similar to regular bread, baked from flours that contained 52.1, 133.22 and 228.73 mg iron/kg flour as FeSO4, NaFeEDTA and Fe, would provide the segment of the population at the highest risk of iron-deficiency anaemia, specifically women of childbearing age, with 91%, 207% and 346% of their recommended daily intakes for iron, respectively. 相似文献

Future food security will depend on crop adaptation to changing environments. We studied the limitations imposed by daylength, temperature and solar radiation on wheat yield in eight field experiments conducted at contrasting northern latitudes and involving 42 adapted spring durum wheat genotypes of divergent phenology, and reduced or without photoperiod sensitivity. Air temperatures averaged from sowing to anthesis (SA) increased from northern to southern sites, while daylength and minimum temperatures from anthesis to maturity (grain filling, GF) followed the opposite trend, due to differences in the latitude of sites. The site effect explained 96 % of the variation in the number of days SA, which was much smaller in southern sites. Average minimum daily temperatures above 6.9 °C before anthesis and below 10.8 °C during GF accompanied by photoperiods during GF of less than 14.2 h resulted in less than 14 000 kernels m?2, which was the threshold below which kernel number limited yield. Nitrogen and sulfur play an important role in maize production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) levels applied in various ratios on maize hybrid Babar yield at Peshawar in 2011 and 2013. Four N levels (120, 160, 200 and 240 kg N ha?1) and four S levels (20, 25, 30 and 35 kg S ha?1) were applied in three splits: a, at sowing; b, V8 stage; c, VT stage in ratios of 10:50:40, 20:50:30 and 30:50:20. Grains ear?1, thousand grain weight, grain yield ha?1 and soil pH were significantly affected by years (Y), N, S and their ratios, while no effect of N, S and their ratios was noted on ears plant?1. Maximum grains ear?1 (390), thousand grain weight (230.1 g) and grain yield (4119 kg ha?1) were recorded in 2013. N increased grains ear?1 (438), thousand grain weight (252 g) and grain yield (5001 kg ha?1) up to 200 kg N ha?1. Each increment of S increased grains ear?1 and other parameters up to 35 kg S ha?1, producing maximum grains ear?1 (430), thousand grain weight (245 g) and grain yield (4752 kg ha?1), while soil pH decreased from 8.06 to 7.95 with the application of 35 kg S ha?1. In the case of N and S ratios, more grains ear?1 (432), heavier thousand grains (246.7 g) and higher grain yield (4806 kg ha?1) were observed at 30:50:20 where 30% of N and S were applied at sowing, 50% at V8 and 20% at VT stage. It is concluded that 200 kg N ha?1 and 35 kg S ha?1 applied in the ratio of 30% at sowing, 50% at V8 and 20% at VT stage is recommended for obtaining a higher yield of maize hybrid Babar. 相似文献

The impact of recreational fishing on fish stocks remains largely unknown, as this is inherently difficult to monitor, especially in areas such as the Mediterranean Sea where many species are targeted using a variety of fishing gears and techniques. This study attempts to complement existing data sets and construct the profile of recreational fisheries in the EU‐Mediterranean countries using videos publicly available on social media. A total of 1526 video records were selected, featuring the capture of 7799 fish specimens. The results show recreational fishing is multispecies in nature (26 species contributed to >80% % of the most numerically important species caught) and exhibits a spatially homogeneous pattern, with differences in species composition being mostly dependent on the fishing technique used rather than on the country. Such findings fill an important knowledge gap on recreational fishing activities, and the methodology provides an innovative approach to gather statistics on data‐poor thematic areas that can potentially complement other data sets, such as the EU Data Collection Multi‐Annual Programme. 相似文献

The reduction in atmospheric inputs of SO 4 2- as a result of stricter regulations of sulfur emission and the depletion in sulfur reserves following the intensification of agricultural production has caused a serious decrease in soil S-concentration. This would markedly affect growth and quality of numerous economically important plants. Foeniculum vulgare or fennel is one of the most cultivated aromatic and medicinal plants, mostly used for their powerful therapeutic effects. Being one of the cultivated species, Foeniculum vulgare could be affected by environmental disturbances like sulfur deficiency. In this work, the poor sulfur supply had a serious impact on the therapeutic quality of fennel seed extracts. At the application of sulfur deficiency, total phenolic compounds of fennel seeds extract decreased by 30% and their total antioxidant activity decreased by 21%. Sulfur starvation also reduced the antibacterial activity of fennel seeds against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by increasing the MIC of seed extracts. 相似文献
