Kidney diseases are the most common illness for cats with a prevalence seven times higher than in dogs. Metanephros is the last of three renal systems to be formed during the embryonic period, which then becomes the permanent kidney. The current work aimed to analyse the morphology and to quantify the structures present in the development of metanephros from domestic cat (Felis catus) embryos and foetuses. For this purpose, the evaluation of the biometric parameters of metanephros from cat embryos and foetuses was performed in addition to the quantification of renal corpuscles and volume of cortical and medullary layers by stereological analysis. The evaluated biometric parameters were weight, width, height, thickness and volume. The values of the measured biometric parameters increased throughout the gestational stages. The quantity of renal corpuscles gradually increased following the embryo-foetal development, mainly during the middle of the gestational stage. It was during this phase that morphologically, a complete corticomedullary division was observed. Although the difference in the quantity of renal corpuscles between the middle and the end of the gestational stages was not statistically significant, there was an increase in the volume of the medullary layer and a decrease in the volume of the cortical layer between these two stages. These findings suggest that the metanephros presents a progressive growth with the renal corpuscles following this development until the middle of the gestational stage. Starting from this phase, the differentiation of the corticomedullary layers can be seen with a significant increase in the medullary layer. 相似文献

The eight vitamers of vitamin E (alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-tocopherols and -tocotrienols) have different antioxidant and biological activities and have different distributions in foods. Some cereals, especially oat, rye, and barley, are good sources of tocotrienols. A fast procedure for the determination of tocopherols and tocotrienols (tocols) in cereal foods was developed. It involves sample saponification and extraction followed by normal phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results have been compared with those found by direct extraction without saponification. The method is sensitive and selective enough to be tested on a wide variety of cereal samples. The highest tocol levels were found in soft wheat and barley ( approximately 75 mg/kg of dry weight). beta-Tocotrienol is the main vitamer found in hulled and dehulled wheats (from 33 to 43 mg/kg of dry weight), gamma-tocopherol predominates in maize (45 mg/kg of dry weight) ), and alpha-tocotrienol predominates in oat and barley (56 and 40 mg/kg of dry weight, respectively). 相似文献

Isomerization of carotenoids, which is often encountered in food processing under the influence of temperature and light, may play a role in the observed protective effects of this group of secondary plant products. Investigation of in vitro antioxidant activity of prominent carotenoid geometrical isomers was undertaken in light of recent reports illustrating a large percentage of carotenoid (Z)-isomers in biological fluids and tissues. Alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lycopene, and zeaxanthin were isolated from foods or supplements and subsequently photoisomerized with iodine as a catalyst. Major Z-isomers of each carotenoid were fractionated by semipreparative C(30) HPLC. In vitro antioxidant activity of all isomers collected was measured photometrically using the Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assay. TEAC values of 17 geometrical isomers investigated ranged from 0.5 to 3.1 mmol/L. Three unidentified (Z)-isomers of lycopene showed the highest antioxidant activity, being significantly higher than the result for (all-E)-lycopene, which had approximately two times the activity of (all-E)-beta-carotene. On the other hand, (9Z)-zeaxanthin had a more than 80% lower TEAC value compared to that of (all-E)-lycopene. Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is the third major forage species in Europe, but there is limited information on the biodiversity and the genetic structure
of landraces and natural populations which evolved in this region. The objective of this study was producing such information
for Italian germplasm on the ground of molecular and morphophysiological diversity. The study included 16 Italian natural
populations from a wide range of environments, four landraces representing the four traditional commercial ecotypes, and two
varieties. Eight morphophysiological traits were assessed in a replicated trial under field conditions, whereas two AFLPs
primer combinations with 140 polymorphic markers were recorded on a random sample of 13 genotypes per population. Ordination
and classification results based on morphophysiological data clearly kept track of the type of germplasm (i.e. landrace or
natural population) and its geographic origin, unlike results based on molecular markers. Euclidean distances among populations
based on morphophysiological traits were not correlated with Nei’s genetic distances based on molecular markers according
to Mantel’s test. Geographical distances among landrace or natural population material was correlated with distances based
on morphophysiological traits but not with those based on molecular markers. The average within-population variation estimated
via molecular markers was about 2.6-fold higher than that among populations, preventing an acceptable discrimination among
most populations. On average, natural populations tended to have within-population variation similar to varieties and somewhat
lower than landraces. Our results have implications for collection, conservation, exploitation and registration in a sui generis system of red clover genetic resources. 相似文献

PIK3CA, one of the two most frequently mutated oncogenes in human tumors, codes for p110alpha, the catalytic subunit of a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, isoform alpha (PI3Kalpha, p110alpha/p85). Here, we report a 3.0 angstrom resolution structure of a complex between p110alpha and a polypeptide containing the p110alpha-binding domains of p85alpha, a protein required for its enzymatic activity. The structure shows that many of the mutations occur at residues lying at the interfaces between p110alpha and p85alpha or between the kinase domain of p110alpha and other domains within the catalytic subunit. Disruptions of these interactions are likely to affect the regulation of kinase activity by p85 or the catalytic activity of the enzyme, respectively. In addition to providing new insights about the structure of PI3Kalpha, these results suggest specific mechanisms for the effect of oncogenic mutations in p110alpha and p85alpha. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding a bacterial inoculum and a handmade additive to sugarcane silage(SCS) on the in situ digestibility of dry matter(DM). The treatments were: T1) sugarcane silage(SCS) and T2) sugarcane silage with 1% inoculum and 1% additive(SCS+). The bacterial inoculum consisted of 10.0% molasses, 1.0% yogurt, 5.0% chicken manure, 0.5% urea, and 83.0% water, and the additive was formulated with 1.0% urea, 0.1% ammonium sulfate, and 0.25% phosphorus. In situ dry matter digestibility(DMD) was determined using the nylon bag technique with four cows equipped with ruminal fistulas. Cows were fed with ensiled sugarcane supplemented with 1 kg of commercial concentrate. 5 g of ground sample for each sugarcane treatment were weighted in nylon bags and incubated for 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h in a completely randomized design with six replicates. The DMD(%) was higher(P<0.05) for SCS+ for all incubation times when compared with SCS. There were no differences in ruminal p H between the treatments for all the incubation times. The data suggested that the sugarcane silage with bacterial inoculum and additive could be an alternative for providing forage for ruminants during the season of low growth and quality grass. 相似文献
