Inhibition of Vibrio spp. by 2‐Hydroxyethyl‐11‐hydroxyhexadec‐9‐enoate of Marine Cyanobacterium Leptolyngbya sp. LT19 下载免费PDF全文

Seven marine cyanobacteria were isolated from two regions of the Gulf of Thailand and evaluated by the agar diffusion method for antibacterial activity. Inhibitory compound was purified from the crude methanol extract and its structure was elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analysis, including IR, 1D and 2D NMR spectra as well as mass spectrometry. A novel antimicrobial compound produced by the marine cyanobacterium Leptolyngbya sp. LT19 was identified to be a 2‐hydroxyethyl‐11‐hydroxyhexadec‐9‐enoate which has so far never been reported in microorganisms. Biological assays revealed that this novel compound exhibited antibacterial activities against the Gram‐negative, persistent shrimp pathogens, Vibrio harveyi and V. parahaemolyticus with minimal inhibitory concentration of 250–1000 and 350–1000 μg mL?1 respectively. 相似文献

ECHOCARDIOGRAPHIC INDICES IN THE NORMAL DOG 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2

Twenty young healthy dogs weighing from 9.8 to 28.6 kg were studied by M-mode echocardiography. Parameters were measured and statistically evaluated to determine whether a correlation to body surface area existed. A statistically significant correlation to body size was found for the aortic, left atrial, left ventricular, septal, and posterior wall dimensions and the mitral valve amplitude of motion. In addition, normal values not correlated to body surface area are presented with their means and standard deviations. These values include velocity of circumferential fiber shortening, ejection time, percent systolic thickening of septum and posterior wall, percent change in minor diameter, selected dimension ratios, and mitral valve velocities 相似文献

To determine the effects of lungworm infection on energy metabolism and rate of weight gain, five 3-mo-old male Friesian calves were infected orally twice each week with 640, third-stage larvae of Dictyocaulus viviparus (D.v.) over an 8-wk period. Infected calves were matched with uninfected controls on the basis of similar rates of feed consumption and weight gain during the acclimation period before infection. Infected calves were fed 2 kg of concentrates daily (88% DM), about 8.5 Mcal/d. Controls each received approximately 250 g less, about 7.5 Mcal/d. Similar amounts of hay (5.6 to 5.8 Mcal/d) were provided to all calves. Clinical, serum chemical, hematological and parasitological criteria, weight gain and utilization of energy were monitored on a weekly basis. Serum chemical and hematological analyses and clinical examinations of infected animals revealed signs typical of lungworm infection. Fecal and sputum sample examinations for infected calves were positive for D.v. larvae and ova, respectively. Control animals gained approximately 80 g.animal-1.d-1 more than infected calves. Lungworm infection had no significant effect on digestibility of energy or protein. Metabolizability of energy ingested was somewhat higher in the infected calves due to a higher dietary concentrate to roughage ratio. Utilization of metabolizable energy and protein tended to be less efficient for infected animals. Results showed that D.v.-infected calves need more feed for gain than do uninfected animals. This extra requirement is due to an increased maintenance requirement and probably to a reduced protein retention from digested protein. 相似文献

Two of three groups of 10 calves each were infected with either 100,000 infective larvae (L3) of Ostertagia spp. and 100,000 L3 of Cooperia spp. or with 4000 L3 of Dictyocaulus viviparus, respectively, at the age of 14 weeks. The third group was not infected. After treatment with an anthelminthic five calves from each group were challenged with either 100,000 L3 of Ostertagia spp. and 100,000 L3 of Cooperia spp. or 4000 L3 of Dictyocaulus at the age of 20 weeks. The calves were 25 weeks old when slaughtered. Total and differential cell counts were determined in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and showed that neutrophils were the most frequent and eosinophils the least frequent cell present. There was a significant negative relationship between eosinophil levels and weight gain of the calves. 相似文献

Seven new amino alcohol compounds, pseudoaminols A–G (1–7), were isolated from the ascidian Pseudodistoma sp. collected off the coast of Chuja-do, Korea. Structures of these new compounds were determined by analysis of the spectroscopic data and from chemical conversion. The presence of an N-carboxymethyl group in two of the new compounds (6 and 7) is unprecedented among amino alcohols. Several of these compounds exhibited moderate antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity, as well as weak inhibitory activity toward Na+/K+-ATPase. 相似文献

- 1. In the absence of a standard procedure for characterizing the physical habitat of lakes in Europe, this paper describes the development of a multi‐purpose Lake Habitat Survey (LHS). The technique has been designed to meet the hydromorphological assessment needs of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), as well as to assist in monitoring the condition of designated sites in the UK and for wider application in environmental impact assessments and restoration programmes.
- 2. LHS involves detailed recording of shoreline features at a number of plots (Hab‐Plots), complemented by a meso‐scale survey of the entire lake, including shoreline characteristics and pressures, and modifications to the hydrological regime. A temperature and dissolved oxygen profile is also compiled at the deepest point of the lake (Index Site). Existing databases are exploited where possible, and remote sensing data (e.g. aerial photographs) are used to assist field‐based observations.
- 3. Initial field trials demonstrated that the consistency of the method, whether conducted by boat or on foot, was high. More than 250 surveys were carried out across the UK in 2004 through collaboration with the statutory environment and conservation agencies.
- 4. Two levels of complexity were tested — a full version requiring 10 Hab‐Plots and an abridged version, LHScore, involving four plots and omitting the Index Site. While 8–10 plots were required to capture the full diversity of features at complex sites, LHScore data were sufficient to generate metrics for classification purposes.
- 5. A Lake Habitat Modification Score (LHMS) may be calculated from LHS data. This synthesizes a wide array of hydromorphological and human pressures and has direct applications for assessment of ecological status under the WFD. Preliminary analysis illustrates a spectrum of hydromorphological alteration of 82 lakes in the UK.
- 6. Further considerations are discussed, including the prospect that the LHS protocol might form the basis of a European standard developed through CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation).

Clinically ill feline leukemia virus (FeLV)-infected cats, treated with Staphylococcus protein A (SPA) or oral interferon alpha (IFN), or both, were compared with cats treated with saline (SAL). Nine cats received SPA/SAL, nine received SPA/IFN, 10 received SAL/IFN, and eight received SAL/SAL. Twelve cats survived and completed the 100-week therapy. Significantly more owners of cats treated with SPA/SAL thought their cat's health improved during treatment compared to owners of cats treated with SAL/SAL (P=0.05, pair-wise comparison) or SPA/IFN (P=0.05, pair-wise comparison). No significant differences in body weight, temperature, hematocrit, red blood cell counts, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, reticulocyte counts, white blood cell or neutrophil numbers, lymphocyte concentrations, bone-marrow cytopathology, FeLV status, survival time, activity, or appetite scores were observed. No significant differences in the owners' subjective assessment of their cat's health following treatment with SAL/IFN, SPA/IFN, or SAL/SAL were seen. Therapy with SPA as a single agent results in the owners' subjective impression of improved health of their FeLV-infected cats. 相似文献
