The size distribution of 14 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) present in particulate aerosol in two different areas of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was investigated in May 2002. One of the study areas (Bravo Murillo) was under the influence of heavy traffic and the other (Pedro Lezcano) under that of small-scale industries of various nature. The average concentration of total suspended particulates (TSP) at Bravo Murillo (35.2 μg m-3) was roughly one-half that at Pedro Lezcano (73.6 μg m-3); the former, however, exhibited a higher PAH content (sum of PAHs: 6.6 ± 1.8 versus 5.1 ± 3.9 ng m-3). The aerosol size partition of total PAHs at Bravo Murillo, with a unimodal peaking at 0.08—0.3 μm, was completely different from that at Pedro Lezcano, where accumulation observed in the 3.8—7.4 μm range suggests the ageing of particles occurred, with PAHs have redistributed according to surface extension of particles. 相似文献

Acute and convalescent sera were collected from 8 dairy herds with classic clinical features of winter dysentery. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure coronavirus antibody titers, employing calf diarrhea coronavirus as antigen. Twenty-two of the 35 animals tested (63%) showed a greater than or equal to 4-fold seroconversion. Adult cattle in all 8 herds seroconverted. These findings complement previously reported immunoperoxidase and electron microscopic evidence, suggesting an etiologic role for an enteric coronavirus in this disease. 相似文献

The Geminiviridae family includes a large number of viruses that infect plants and have a unique geminate virion particle, a single-stranded genome of approximately 2.6-3.0 kb, and replicate through a rolling-circle mechanism. Since they encode for just a few proteins (4-6 depending on the members that belong to four different genera), a rich variety of interactions has evolved between viral proteins and host factors to develop the virus replicative cycle. Among them, we have been particularly interested so far: (i). in the interference with cell cycle regulatory proteins of the retinoblastoma-related (RBR)/E2F pathway and (ii). in the interaction with host DNA replication factors necessary for the assembly of a functional replication complex at the viral origin of DNA replication during the rolling-circle stage. Yeast two-hybrid assays revealed that wheat dwarf virus RepA protein, but nor Rep protein, interacts with plant RBR protein. Interestingly, deletion of the C-terminal domain of Rep confers the truncated protein the ability to interact with RBR, suggesting that this domain may hinder the LXCXE RBR-binding motif. Lymphangiosarcoma is a rare tumour in domestic animals arising from lymphatic endothelial cells. Occasionally, microscopic differentiation with haemangiosarcoma may be difficult. The aim of the present study was to describe a lymphangiosarcoma in a 1-year-old female Doberman Pinscher dog and to characterize its lectinhistochemical binding pattern as compared with that of haemangiosarcoma. The dog was presented because of a cutaneous painful swelling located in the left axilla. Histological diagnosis confirmed lymphangiosarcoma. The dog was killed. Necropsy revealed mediastinal lymph nodes' involvement. Twenty lectins were tested in tissue sections of this case as well as in four haemangiosarcomas from other dogs. Staining intensity was issued upon optical density determinations. Percentage of lectinhistochemical staining area was also conducted. RCA-I showed the most intense and wide distributed labelling pattern for lymphangiosarcoma. PHA-E was the counterpart for haemangiosarcoma. Should similar results be obtained in further studies, such differences could aid in the differential diagnosis between lymphangiosarcoma and haemangiosarcoma when histological pictures were not conclusive. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To determine pharmacokinetic characteristics of marbofloxacin after a single IV and oral administration and tissue residues after serial daily oral administration in chickens. ANIMALS: 40 healthy broiler chickens. PROCEDURE: Two groups of chickens (groups A and B; 8 chickens/group) were administered a single IV and oral administration of marbofloxacin (2 mg/kg). Chickens of group C (n = 24) were given serial daily doses of marbofloxacin (2 mg/kg, PO, q 24 h for 3 days). Plasma (groups A and B) and tissue concentrations (group C) of marbofloxacin and its major metabolite N-desmethyl-marbofloxacin were determined by use of high-performance liquid chromatography. Residues of marbofloxacin and N-desmethylmarbofloxacin were measured in target tissues. RESULTS: Elimination half-life and mean residence time of marbofloxacin in plasma were 5.26 and 4.36 hours after IV administration and 8.69 and 8.55 hours after oral administration, respectively. Maximal plasma concentration was 1.05 microg/ml, and interval from oral administration until maximum concentration was 1.48 hours. Oral bioavailability of marbofloxacin was 56.82%. High concentrations of marbofloxacin and N-desmethyl-marbofloxacin were found in the kidneys, liver, muscles, and skin plus fat 24 hours after the final dose of marbofloxacin; however, marbofloxacin and N-desmethyl-marbofloxacin were detected in only hepatic (27.6 and 98.7 microg/kg, respectively) and renal (39.7 and 69.1 microg/kg, respectively) tissues 72 hours after termination of marbofloxacin treatment. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Analysis of pharmacokinetic data obtained in this study reveals that a minimal therapeutic dose of 2 mg/kg, PO, every 24 hours should be appropriate for control of most infections in chickens. 相似文献
