The ability of the SAV 6 high-frequency jet ventilator to effectively ventilate three anesthetized, paralyzed cats (3.2–4.2 kg), two small dogs (7.2 and 10.0 kg), six medium-sized dogs (20.5–25.0 kg), and three large dogs (36.0–43.0 kg) via a 14-gauge (dogs) or a 16-gauge (cats) catheter placed percutaneously into the trachea via the cricothyroid membrane or into a preplaced endotracheal tube was evaluated. The lowest driving pressure within the range of 0.25 to 2.0 kg/cm2 (1 kg/cm2= 14.2 psi) and the highest cycle rate within the range of 60 to 240 per minute that would generate a PaCO2 of 30 ± 3 mm Hg were determined.
All animals could be ventilated to a PaC02 of 30 ± 3 mm Hg by the endotracheal tube and transtracheal route, except the largest dogs, which couid be ventilated to an average PaC02 of 36 mm Hg by the transtracheal route. The transtracheal route consistently required higher driving pressures and lower cycle rates than did the endotracheal tube route. Cats could be ventilated with a driving pressure of 0.25 kg/cm2; small dogs could be ventilated with 0.5 to 1.0 kg/cm2; medium-sized dogs with 1.0 to 1.5 kg/cm2; and large dogs with 1.5 to 2.0 kg/cm2.
The SAV 6 high-frequency jet ventilator can effectively ventilate cats and dogs (7.2–43.0 kg) via a transtracheal catheter and an endotracheal tube.  相似文献

The effect of tylosin on macrolide resistance of gram-positive bacteria of pigs was determined. After an initial base-line period during which the pigs were given antibiotic-free feed, 1 group of 8 pigs was given tylosin feed (100 g/US ton of feed), and a 2nd group of 7 was given antibiotic-free feed. Samples were taken at 2- to 3-week intervals. For each pig, rectal, skin, and nasal swab samples were collected for enumeration of fecal streptococci and skin and nasal staphylococci. Percentages of macrolide resistant organisms of each group were tabulated on the basis of colony counts from antibiotic free and erythromycin-containing plates. After the introduction of tylosin into the feed of 1 group, a clear difference between the 2 groups with respect to the macrolide resistance of their gram-positive microflora was observed. The data indicate that tylosin feeding results in an increase in macrolide resistance of the bacterial flora of pigs.  相似文献

A case of acute circulatory failure in a horse is described. The response to intravenous fluid therapy was monitored by measurement of heart and respiratory rates, and arterial and central venous pressures. Heart rate was an unreliable guide to improved circulatory status. Central venous pressure and indirect arterial blood pressure were valuable guides to the efficacy of fluid therapy.  相似文献

Groups of 30 broilers from seven flocks were bled and weighed at the farm and a further sample of 10 broilers from each flock was transported from 8 to 16 km to the laboratory prior to bleeding and weighing. 2. Lateral spread of S6 strain Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) was studied in small populations of chickens. One experimentally exposed bird served as the source of infection, and the presence of MG-agglutinating antibody was evidence of infection in individuals. The results were subjected to survival data analysis. In the seven experiments, four similar but not identical phases of lateral spread were observed: phase 1, a generally long latent phase (median 15, range 12-21 days) before antibody was first detected in the MG-inoculated bird; phase 2, a generally short period (median 1, range 1-21 days) in which infection gradually appeared in 5-10% of the population; phase 3, a fairly constant characteristic phase (median 24, range 7-32 days) in which 90-95% of the remaining population developed MG antibody; phase 4, a generally short terminal phase (median 4, range 3-19 days) in which the remainder of the population became positive. Increasing the population density increased the rate at which lateral spread occurred.  相似文献

Faecal egg counts were determined twice weekly for two groups of four-month-old worm free cross Suffolk lambs experimentally infected with 100 and 320 Ostertagia circumcincta larvae, five times per week for 20 weeks. The group mean egg count in both groups rose to a maximum of approximately 500 eggs per gram during weeks 12 to 14 and had fallen to less than half of that value at slaughter. There was no statistical difference in egg output between these two groups or between them and a comparable group of lambs receiving 4000 Ostertagia circumcincta larvae per day. No significant changes in live weight gain or serum pepsinogen levels were observed in the lambs given 100 and 320 larvae per day.  相似文献
