Panagrellus redivivus is a nematode with a high protein content and low‐cost production. It is successfully used in the larviculture of shrimp, however, it has not yet been evaluated as feed for Betta splendens larvae. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate P. redivivus as feed for betta larvae maintained at different depths of water. The experiment was based on a completely randomized 3 × 2 factorial design, represented by two feed types and one alternating feeding regime plus two water depths (2.5 and 5.0 cm). The Artemia feed promoted the highest weight gain, followed by the alternating feeding regime. The single use of the nematode as live feed produced the poorest weight gain. The water depth and the feeding method influenced the specific growth rate (SGR). At a depth of 2.5 cm, the alternating feeding promoted similar SGR compared to fish fed with Artemia only. Furthermore, at the greater water depth an improvement in SGR was observed in fish fed Artemia only, but the similarity to alternating feeding regime remains. Thus, the inclusion of nematode is an appropriate and lower cost feed strategy for the betta larviculture independent of water depths. 相似文献

Background: Blood groups in dogs are designated as dog erythrocyte antigen (DEA) 1.1, 1.2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and Dal. There is limited information about the frequency of different antigens in Greyhound dogs, despite their frequent use as blood donors. Objectives: The aims of this study were to determine the frequencies of DEA 1.1, 1.2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 in Greyhounds, to compare the frequencies with those of non‐Greyhound dogs, and to evaluate the presence of naturally occurring anti‐DEA antibodies. Methods: Blood was collected from 206 Greyhound and 66 non‐Greyhound dogs being screened as potential blood donors. Blood‐typing was performed at Animal Blood Resources International by tube agglutination utilizing polyclonal anti‐DEA antibodies. Results: Of the Greyhound dogs, 27/206 (13.1%) were positive for DEA 1.1, and this frequency was significantly lower (P<.0001) than for non‐Greyhound dogs of which 40/66 (60.6%) were DEA 1.1‐positive. The frequency of positivity for both DEA 1.1 and 1.2 was also lower in Greyhounds (P<.0001). There were no significant differences between Greyhounds and non‐Greyhounds for DEA 1.2, 3, 4, 5, or 7. All 137 dogs (113 Greyhounds and 24 non‐Greyhounds) that were evaluated for naturally occurring anti‐DEA antibodies in serum were negative. A higher percentage of Greyhound dogs (57.3%, 118/206) were considered “universal donors” (negative for all DEAs except DEA 4) compared with non‐Greyhound dogs (28%, 13/46). Conclusion: The frequency of positivity for DEA 1.1 in our population of Greyhounds was significantly lower than previously reported for dogs. To assess the effect of feeding frequency on the utilization of dietary starch by white sea bream juveniles, triplicate groups of fish were fed an experimental diet (400 g kg?1 protein, 140 g kg?1 lipids and 350 g kg?1 pregelatinized maize starch) to apparent visual satiation 2, 3 or 4 times a day for 63 days. Growth performance, feed utilization efficiency, glycaemia, cholesterolaemia, plasma triacylglycerides, liver lipids and glycogen content were unaffected by feeding frequency. α‐Amylase activity increased from the pyloric caeca to the posterior intestine and was higher in fish fed twice a day than in fish fed 3 or 4 times a day. Hepatic glucokinase (GK) activity decreased with the increase in feeding frequencies, whereas fructose‐1,6‐bisphosphatase (FBPase) activity increased. Hepatic glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase and glutamate dehydrogenase activities were unaffected by feeding frequency. Overall, feeding frequency did not improve white sea bream dietary starch utilization. α‐Amylase, GK and FBPase activities responded to dietary starch consumed at each meal, denoting a good metabolic adaptation of the fish to the feeding conditions. 相似文献

Nineteen cases of canine acute leukemia were diagnosed during a 4-year period. Two main categories were identified on the basis of cytologic, hematologic, and clinical features: acute lymphoid leukemia and acute myelogenous leukemia. Clinical features included history of weight loss, anorexia, shifting limb lameness, and incoordination. Physical findings were characterized by hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, mild generalized lymphadenopathy, and pallor. Ocular lesions were found in 29% of dogs with acute myelogenous leukemia. Hematologic abnormalities included anemia, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia, leukemia, and leukoerythroblastic reactions. Results of therapy were discouraging. 相似文献

Myeloid and megakaryocytic bone marrow hypoplasia in association with moderate to profound neutropenia was observed in 8 young Standardbred horses sired by the same stallion; 7 horses were intermittently thrombocytopenic. Evaluation of serial neutrophil counts in 2 horses suggested that a cyclic variation in neutrophil numbers was present, that lymphocyte numbers increased when neutrophil counts decreased, and that platelet counts decreased when neutrophil counts decreased. Preliminary bone marrow cultures indicated that myeloid progenitor cells were present and that these cells were able to respond to exogenous growth factors by differentiating. A bone marrow microenvironment or growth factor defect is suspected. Seven of 8 horses died or were euthanized. One horse with moderate neutropenia and a normal platelet count has been racing for 3 years. Necropsies in 4 horses did not reveal a cause for the myeloid hypoplasia. Blackspot seabream, Pagellus bogaraveo (Brunnich), has been identified as a potential species to diversify European aquaculture production. Although rearing aspects have been widely investigated, little information exists on the nutritional requirements for this species. The aim of this study was to build up information on the activity of digestive enzymes at certain developmental stages of blackspot seabream in order to understand the nutritional needs of larvae and post larvae. Fish larvae were reared from hatching to 55 days after hatching (dah), and the feeding plan consisted in rotifers (5–35 dah), Artemia naupli (30–35 dah) metanaupli (35–45) and Gemma microdiet (45–55 dah). At 7, 11, 21, 45 and 55 days after hatching (dah), pooled samples of fish larvae were collected for analysis of trypsin, amylase, lipase, alkaline phosphatase and leucine–alanine peptidase activity. Up to 21 dah, the whole larvae body was used for enzymatic analysis, whereas in older larvae only the dissected abdominal cavity was used. Blackspot seabream body dry weight growth was exponential, increasing from 60 μg at 5 dah to 30±9.7 mg at 55 dah. Amylase specific activity decreased significantly during development, exhibiting at 11 dah (0.6 U mg?1 protein) an average value 2.7 times lower than at 7 dah, and remaining stable between 45 and 55 dah (0.7 U mg protein?1). Trypsin specific activity remained constant until 21 dah (between 38 and 44 mU mg protein?1), which could be related to the larvae feeding regime. At later stages of development, lipase‐specific activity exhibited a significant increase (P<0.05), being three times higher at 55 dah (8 U mg protein?1) than at 45 dah. The total activity of the studied digestive enzymes increased significantly during larval development (until 21 dah), whereas afterwards only lipase and leucine–alanine peptidase increased significantly between 45 and 55 dah. The pattern of digestive enzymes activity was related to organogenesis and the type of food used at different developmental stages. 相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of temperature and dietary starch level on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, whole-body composition and activity of selected hepatic intermediary metabolism enzymes in European sea bass juveniles. An experimental diet was formulated to contain 46% crude protein, 12% crude lipids and 30% pregelatinized starch (diet 30GS); two other diets were formulated to include the same levels of all ingredients as diet 30GS except for the pregelatinized starch, which was included at 20% (diet 20GS) or 10% (diet 10GS). Diets were assigned to triplicate groups of 25 fish (initial weight: 15 g) at two water temperatures (18 and 25 °C) for 10 weeks. Group receiving diet 30GS was fed to apparent satiation and groups fed diets 20GS and 10GS were pair-fed according to group fed diet 30GS, so that each group ate the same amount of all nutrients except for carbohydrates. At the end of the trial, growth rate, feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio were higher at 25 than at 18 °C. Dietary starch level did not affect growth or N utilisation. Feed efficiency was inversely related to dietary starch level. Whole-body lipids and energy content were higher at 25 °C and increased with dietary starch levels. Whole-body protein and ash content were also higher at 25 °C but were not affected by dietary starch level. Liver glycogen, HSI and VI increased with dietary starch level. ADC of starch was higher at 25 °C and within each temperature decreased with increasing dietary starch levels. ADC of protein was neither affected by temperature nor dietary starch levels. Data on enzyme activities showed that hexokinase (HK) but not glucokinase (GK) was affected by temperature. Dietary starch level affected the activities of glucokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) but not of the others enzymes tested (HK, PK, FBPase and GDH). 相似文献
