A nanoencapsulation technique was applied to an oxygen-scavenging system, and thermal processing was investigated as an activator to trigger the oxygen-scavenging reaction. α-Tocopherol-loaded polycaprolactone (PCL) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using an oil-in-water emulsion solvent evaporation method. The influences of iron(II) chloride, water, and thermal processing on the oxygen-scavenging capability were investigated. NPs without iron(II) chloride, moisture, and thermal processing had no oxygen-scavenging effect. However, the oxygen content (%) in the cup headspace of 20.9% decreased to 20.4% when the oxygen-scavenging system contained NPs, water, and iron(II) chloride. The oxygen content (%) decreased further to 19.5% when water was eliminated from the mixture. In this research, NPs and iron(II) chloride with thermal processing had an oxygen-scavenging capacity of 6.44 cm3 of O2/g and an oxygen-scavenging rate of 0.21 cm3 of O2 g(-1) day(-1). Results indicated that NPs and iron(II) chloride in an oxygen-scavenging system can be used as a heat-activated oxygen scavenger.  相似文献

The laryngeal muscles of 18 horses were examined histologically. The neurogenic changes found in each muscle were scored by four reviewers and the results evaluated statistically. Fifteen of these horses had endoscopic evidence of abnormal laryngeal function, three of which were defined as having adductor paralysis. Measurement of muscle fibre area in two horses with idiopathic laryngeal hemiplegia (ILH) was performed. In the quantitative study of neurogenic change, the adductor muscles were more significantly affected than the abductor muscle. This was also true in the clinical cases of ILH where measurement of muscle fibre area demonstrated that the lateral cricoarytenoid (adductor) muscles showed a wider range of pathological changes than the dorsal cricoarytenoid muscle (abductor). Those horses with the most severe muscle pathology also had the most abnormal endoscopic findings. The propensity for denervation of the adductor muscles should provide clues as to the pathogenesis and natural history of horses with sub-clinical laryngeal disease and ILH.  相似文献

The extent to which degenerative hip disorders in adult male turkeys result in pain was investigated in a two-period crossover experiment. The birds in six pens received daily injections of an anti-inflammatory steroid (betamethasone) during week 1 and control injections of physiological saline in week 3. The turkeys in the other six pens received saline in week 1 and steroid in week 3. Behavioural observations of the birds during weeks 1 and 3 revealed that the steroid treatment resulted in more spontaneous activity. The steroid-treated birds also showed speedier movement in a sexual activity test in weeks 1 and 3. Post mortem examination revealed that all the turkeys were suffering from degenerative hip disorders. It is concluded that degenerative hip disorders in adult male turkeys result in a state of chronic pain which inhibits spontaneous activity and sexual activity.  相似文献

A technique for producing specific antibovine IgG2 antibodies is described. The method relies on the abrogation of the class-specific antibody response of guinea pigs to bovine IgG1 by intravenous injection of goat serum immediately before immunisation in the foot pads with bovine IgG2 in adjuvant. Of the 10 resulting antisera, six were judged monospecific for IgG2 by immunoelectrophoresis but, of these, two antisera gave a very faint line in gel diffusion using IgG1 as the antigen. Radial immunodiffusion studies indicated that the strength of the antisera, using IgG2 as the antigen, was similar to antisera of guinea pigs not injected with goat serum before absorption with bovine IgG1. For guinea pigs injected with goat serum, using bovine IgG1 as an immunogen did not result in the production of subclass specific antisera, rather, the specificities were similar to those of animals not receiving goat serum. This data is compared to absorption studies of goat antibovine IgG1 and IgG2 antisera. The relationships of goat and bovine IgG subclasses are discussed.  相似文献

This study was designed to test the efficacy of heparin anticoagulant therapy in the horse and its effect on the formed elements of blood. Nine clinically normal, nontraumatized adult horses were subjected to 4 different heparin maintenance regimens (dosages of 320, 240, 160, and 40 U/kg of body weight). Porcine intestinal mucosa heparin (20,000 U/ml) was injected subcutaneously every 12 hours for 96 hours (total 9 times). A loading dose of one-third the maintenance dose was given IV just before the first heparin injection. Three control horses were given an equivalent volume of 0.9% saline solution. The 2 large doses of heparin (320, 240 U/kg) resulted in an extension of the therapeutic range for heparin anticoagulant therapy (1.5 to 2.5 X data base-line prolongation of the activated partial thromboplastin time [APTT]). The 160-U/kg dose maintained the APTT in the therapeutic range, and the 40-U/kg dose had no effect on the APTT. Heparin was shown to exert a profound influence on the RBC mass of the horse. Three of the heparin regimens (320, 240, and 160 U/kg) resulted in a significant decrease in RBC numbers, PCV, and total hemoglobin content. Platelet count also was reduced in the horses when given the 320 and 240 U/kg doses. The observed increase in the mean corpuscular volume was associated with decreasing RBC numbers. Plasma proteins, serum bilirubin, free hemoglobin (plasma), haptoglobin (plasma), and urine and fecal hemoglobin values remained unchanged in all groups. Heparin anticoagulation therapy with the smallest dose (40 U/kg) had no detectable effects on the measured values, nor did the saline solution.  相似文献
