The arsenic contamination of Bangladesh groundwater involves heavy arsenic inputs to irrigated rice fields. Beside adsorption on soil colloids, iron–arsenic co-precipitation phenomena can affect arsenic retention in soils. In paddy fields of Satkhira District, Bangladesh, the study of the arsenic and iron forms in the irrigation waters and in soils at different times and distances from the irrigation well evidenced that a higher Fe/As ratio in the well water was related to a faster oxidation of Fe(II) and As(III) in water and to a close Fe–As association in soils, together with a greater accumulation of arsenic and poorly ordered iron oxides. The concentration of arsenic and of labile iron forms decreased with the distance from the well and with the depth, as well as the reversibility of arsenic binding. The fate of the arsenic added to the soils by irrigation hence resulted strongly influenced by iron–arsenic co-precipitation, depending on the Fe/As ratio in water. Irrigation systems favouring the sedimentation of the Fe–As flocks could help in protecting the rice from the adverse effects of dissolved arsenic.  相似文献

The factors responsible for the clinical progress of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in dogs have not been yet established. The starting hypothesis was the possibility of associating the changing level of a specific type of cytokines with the evolution of the infection towards infection-manifested disease or resistant behaviour. For this purpose the authors have established a connection between Leishmania load, cytokine mRNA accumulation, and the progression of the disease in naturally infected asymptomatic dogs. We made use of real-time (RT) PCR system to detect the expression of cytokine mRNA levels during all the phases of the infection. In particular, we measured the amount of parasites in samples such as blood, lymph nodes and skin, and the expression levels of IFN-gamma, IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-12 and IL-18 cytokines in the blood. We employed different targeted real-time PCR assay on 40 naturally infected dogs, initially asymptomatic; 20 of these progressed to overt disease, and the 20 remaining dogs remained asymptomatic throughout the period of study (2 years). Two other groups included: 20 naturally infected dogs with clinical signs of VL, and 20 healthy dogs living in a non-endemic area. All these animals were employed as positive and negative controls, respectively. The overall results obtained demonstrate that the simultaneous evaluation of parasites and cytokine levels represents a reliable tool for predicting disease development, and thus for choosing the best treatment for the asymptomatic form of the disease.  相似文献

Lactobacillus rhamnosus as additive for maize and sorghum ensiling   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus AT195, a potential probiotic microorganism cultured in buffalo "scotta" whey, on chemical and microbiological composition in maize and sorghum ensiling were evaluated. Both crops were harvested, chopped, and treated or not with the selected strain prior to ensiling in fiberglass vertical silos; 90 days after ensiling, silages were sensorially evaluated and sampled. Different chemical components were evaluated both on fresh crops and silages: in particular, the water-soluble carbohydrates content was investigated by high-field NMR spectroscopy and the carbohydrate fermentation profile was performed by GC. Besides phenotypic identification and typing, microbiological studies included Lb. rhamnosus genotype typing by RAPD-PCR. All silages, inoculated or not, were well preserved, as their chemical and microbiological data along with the fermentation profiles showed. The selected strain used as inoculum influenced the lactic acid population of silages and evidenced a good survival performance during the ensiling process of both maize and sorghum. Moreover, the use of Lb. rhamnosus strain efficiently improved the quality of the multifactorial ensiling process by significantly reducing the ammonia nitrogen content of both maize and sorghum silages.  相似文献

Objective  To evaluate the circadian rhythms of intraocular pressure (IOP) and tear production in dog exposed to a natural photoperiod.
Animals studied  We used 12 clinically healthy Beagles dog housed under natural photoperiod at indoor temperature and humidity.
Procedure  Intraocular pressure and Schirmer tear test (STT) I were measured every 4 h over a 48-h period in both eyes in each animal. Statistical analysis of the data was performed by one-way repeated-measures anova , Student's t -test, and single cosinor method.
Results  On each day, there was a highly significant effect of time on both parameters. A statistically significant difference of STT I values was observed comparing left and right eyes ( P  < 0.0001). Robust daily rhythms were observed for both parameters, IOP values showed diurnal acrophase (left eye: 09:33 ± 00:50 h; right eye: 09:25 ± 00:22 h), while STT I values showed nocturnal acrophase (left eye: 20:27 ± 00:46 h; right eye: 20:00 ± 00:05 h).
Conclusion  This study has demonstrated circadian rhythms in both IOP and STT I.  相似文献

The natural abundance deuterium NMR characterization of four commercially available samples (Kahlbaum, Aldrich, Fluka, and Extrasynthese) of salicin 1 in comparison with two extractive samples from Salix humboldiana and Salix purpurea L. and with a synthetic material, performed on the pentaacetate derivative 2 and on diacetyl salicyl alcohol 4, is reported. Product 2 from S. humboldiana and the sample from salicin Kahlbaum show mean (D/H)aromatic values of 117 and 121 ppm, whereas, for the remaining, values of 146, 154, 153, and 150 ppm are observed, thus suggesting that salicin Kahlbaum is from extractive origin. The (D/H) values at positions 5' and 6' of the sugar moiety suggest a hypothesis on the origin of the glucose residue discriminating between those deriving from C3 or C4 plants. The analysis of 4, obtained from 3, formed in the beta-glucosidase hydrolysis of salicin 1, reveals in the natural samples from S. purpurea and from Kahlbaum the trend (D/H)4(para) > (DH)3(meta) approximately (D/H)5(meta) > (D/H)6(ortho), the first example of deuterium pattern of an ortho-oxygen-substituted phenylpropanoid. The three samples derived from commercial 1 (Aldrich, Fluka, and Extrasynthese) and the synthetic sample show almost identical deuterium content at positions 4 and 6 (around 153 ppm), whereas for the two meta positions (D/H)3 > (D/H)5 (ca. 162 and 140 ppm, respectively). Product 4, obtained from 3 submitted to acid-catalyzed deuteration, shows different deuterium incorporations in the two meta positions (which are ortho/para to the activating phenolic hydroxyl group), suggesting that possibly the deuterium abundance at the two meta positions may be affected by exchange phenomena with the medium.  相似文献

The capacity of a leonardite humic acid (LHA), a soil humic acid (SHA), and a soil fulvic acid (SFA) in modulating the allelopathic potential of caffeic acid (CA), ferulic acid (FA), and salicylic acid (SA) on seedlings of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) was investigated. Lettuce showed a sensitivity greater than that of tomato to CA, FA, and SA phytotoxicity, which was significantly reduced or even suppressed in the presence of SHA or SFA, especially at the highest dose, but not LHA. In general, SFA was slightly more active than SHA, and the efficiency of the action depended on their concentration, the plant species and the organ examined, and the allelochemical. The daily measured residual concentration of CA and FA decreased drastically and that of SA slightly in the presence of germinating seeds of lettuce, which were thus able to absorb and/or enhance the degradation of CA and FA. The adsorption capacity of SHA for the three allelochemicals was small and decreased in the order FA > CA > SA, thus suggesting that adsorption could be a relevant mechanism, but not the only one, involved in the "antiallelopathic" action.  相似文献

The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the fresh aerial parts of Mentha microphylla C. Kock (Lamiaceae) collected on the Gennargentu Mountains (Sardinia, Italy) has been investigated by gas chromatography (GC) and GC/mass spectrometry (MS). The main constituents that resulted were pulegone (34.1%), piperitenone oxide (32.9%), and piperitenone (11.3%). The presence of small amounts of compounds such as ethyl hexanoate, 1-octen-3-ol, nonanal, and ethyl 2-methylbutanoate could justify the particular odorous profile of the plant, resembling the aroma of milk and other dairy products such as mozzarella.  相似文献

Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves were dried using a microwave oven at atmospheric pressure or two traditional methods: air-drying at 50 degrees C and freeze-drying. The microwave-drying was carried out at different powers and times on raw basil leaves, while for air and freeze-drying techniques, both raw and blanched leaves were used. The raw and dried basil was analyzed for selected aroma compounds by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected-ion-monitoring, the chlorophyll a and b by HPLC and the color by a reflected-light colorimeter. For dried samples microwaved for 1 min at 270, 2 min at 440, 1 min at 650, and 1 min at 1100 W, the percentage retentions of the characteristic volatile compounds (eucalyptol, linalool, eugenol, and methyl eugenol) were higher than in the samples dried by traditional methods, with the exception of freeze-dried unblenched basil. Microwave drying allowed a larger retention of chlorophyll pigments than air-drying and freeze-drying (with or without blanching) and preserved the color of the raw basil. Microwave drying requires a much shorter treatment and implied the simultaneous blanching of the material.  相似文献

A laboratory-prepared total protein extract (TPE) and a lupin protein isolate (LPI-E) produced in a pilot plant were submitted to a detailed two-dimensional (2DE) proteomic investigation. Recent findings have indicated that in an established rodent model of hyperlipidemia, moderate daily intakes of LPI-Es lead to a reduction of total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, and the knowledge of the actual composition of the protein sample used in that study is at the basis of further structure/action investigations. The experimental results indicate that the semi-industrial procedure used for the production of LPI-E damages only marginally the proteins. It does, however, cleave some disulfide bridges and induce mild proteolysis, as confirmed by the higher number of resolved protein spots in the low Mr and acidic pI region of the 2DE map. Out of 72 spots submitted to mass spectrometry and compared with available protein databases, 42 correspond to fragments of beta-conglutin, the 7S globulin of lupin, spanning between positions 37 and 495 of the protein sequence. Using the bioinformatic tool BlastP, these peptides were compared to the alpha'-subunit of beta-conglycinin, the 7S globulin of soybean, this being the most active hypocholesterolemic component of soybean protein, as shown by in vitro and in vivo experiments. At least 18 peptides derived from beta-conglutin, having a percentage identity higher than 50% and a similarity percentage higher than 70% vs the alpha'-subunit of beta-conglycinin, are likely candidates to be the biologically active components of lupin protein.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the essential oil of the Sardinian Rosmarinus officinalis L. obtained by hydro distillation and steam\hydro distillation was studied using GC-FID and MS. Samples were collected at different latitude and longitude of Sardinia (Italy). The yields ranged between 1.75 and 0.48% (v/w, volume/dry-weight). A total of 30 components were identified. The major compounds in the essential oil were alpha-pinene, borneol, (-) camphene, camphor, verbenone, and bornyl-acetate. Multivariate analysis carried out on chemical molecular markers, with the appraisal of chemical, pedological, and random amplified polymorphic DNA data, allows four different clusters to be distinguished. The antimicrobial and antifungal tests showed a weak activity of Sardinian rosemary. On the other hand, an inductive effect on fungal growth, especially toward Fusarium graminearum was observed.  相似文献
