This report describes a case of postanesthetic brachial triceps myonecrosis affecting only the left forelimb of a horse. A fatal unilateral postanesthetic myonecrosis has not been previously reported in the horse. The development and distribution of the conducting tissue of tomato fruit in relation to salinity was studied by recording the number of vascular bundles in different layers of the fruit tissues at different growth stages in fruit grown at three levels of salinity (electrical conductivity, 5,10 and 15 mS cm'1). The uptake of safranin through the pedicel was used to locate the lignified xylem tissue in the bundles. Pericarp and placenta were supplied by separated vascular networks. Both the number and the density of vascular bundles (per cross sectional area of fruit tissue) were higher in pericarp than in placenta. The number of bundles decreased from the proximal (pedicel) half to the distal (blossom-end) half of the fruit, more so in the placenta than in the pericarp. The average density of bundles decreased from 1.7 and 0.6 bundles mm-2 in pericarp and placenta, respectively, to less than 0.1 bundles mm'2 during fruit expansion from dl4 to d31. The average density of bundles in layer 5 of the placenta was 2.5 times lower than that of the pericarp throughout fruit development. Salinity reduced the number of both total and stained bundles especially in the distal layer of the placenta. Therefore, xylem tissue development in the distal fruit tissue was substantially retarded at high salinity and this may be the anatomical basis for the initial Ca deficiency symptom of blossom-end rot in the distal placenta.  相似文献

Improvements in the serological diagnosis of neosporosis are needed to differentiate acute versus chronic Neospora caninum infections. In the present study, N. caninum microneme protein 10 (NcMIC10), similar to other microneme proteins, was shown to be released in a calcium-dependent manner. NcMIC10 may be discharged during active invasion of host cells by the parasite, and thus represent an excellent marker for the diagnosis of neosporosis. In order to test this hypothesis, recombinant NcMIC10 (rNcMIC10) was expressed in Escherichia coli, and polyclonal antibodies were generated against non-overlapping fragments of the protein. A capture ELISA was developed using these antibodies, and was found to be highly accurate and reproducible with a detection range of 10-10,000 pg/ml. The anti-rNcMIC10 antibodies used in this study did not cross-react with the Toxoplasma gondii antigens. NcMIC10 was detected by the ELISA in sera of 9 out of 10 goats (90%) experimentally infected with N. caninum tachyzoites. In general, goats infected with a lower dose (10(4)) of the parasite displayed a peak in NcMIC10 levels between weeks 4 and 5 post infection. Goats infected with a higher parasite dose (10(6)) displayed a more rapid increase in NcMIC10 levels. In most animals, NcMIC10 decreased to undetectable levels by week 6 post infection. This is the first circulating Neospora antigen-based assay which may complement the existing antibody-based assays for a rapid and cost-effective definitive diagnosis of neosporosis in livestock.  相似文献

Twenty-three aromatic or heterocyclic 1,1-disubstituted-but-3-yn-1-ols were prepared by the reaction between prop-2-ynylmagnesium bromide and suitable ketones. They were tested in vivo for antifungal activity against eight phytopathogenic fungi of different taxonomic classes. Four compounds had noteworthy activity on Sphaerotheca fuliginea in protectant, systemic and eradicant assays. Solution pH is among the most important parameters that influence heavy metal biosorption. This work presents a kinetic study of the effects of pH on chromium biosorption onto Cupressus lusitanica Mill bark from aqueous Cr(VI) or Cr(III) solutions and proposes a mechanism of adsorption. At all assayed contact times, the optimum pH for chromium biosorption from the Cr(III) solution was 5.0; in contrast, optimum pH for chromium biosorption from the Cr(VI) solution varied depending on contact time. The kinetic models that satisfactorily described the chromium biosorption processes from the Cr(III) and Cr(VI) solutions were the Elovich and pseudo second-order models, respectively. Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy studies suggest that phenolic compounds present on C. lusitanica Mill bark play an important role in chromium biosorption from the Cr(III) solution. On the other hand, chromium biosorption from the Cr(VI) solution involved carboxyl groups produced on the bark by redox reactions between oxygen-containing groups and Cr(VI), and these were in turn responsible for the biosorption of Cr(III) produced by Cr(VI) reduction.  相似文献
