This paper describes and evaluates the mortality associated with the potential stressor effect induced by application of artificial photoperiods in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). After application of artificial photoperiods, high mortalities of trout subjected to this management were recorded (36% in LD 14:10 and 25% in LD 24:0) as compared to controls (7%). The recorded signology related to diseased trout included darkening, lethargy and erratic swimming. Among the morphological changes, skin lesions and ulcerative-type necrosis could be observed. Blood tests, histopathology and isolation of pathogens identified as Flavobacterium psychrophilum, associated with Aeromonas, Pseudomonas and Saprolegnia sp., were performed. The application of artificial photoperiods suggests that fish may be more susceptible to opportunistic diseases; thus, it is advisable to emphasize preventive measures in fish subjected to this management.  相似文献

Aerobic rice is a water-saving rice production system for water-short environments with favorable soils and adapted, potentially high-yielding varieties that are direct dry seeded. Soils remain aerobic but supplementary irrigation is applied as necessary. In the dry season of 2004 and 2005, a water by N experiment was set up at the location “Dapdap” in central Central Luzon, Philippines, to explore water and N management strategies in aerobic rice. The experiment was laid out as a split-plot design on a loamy sand soil with three water treatments (irrigation twice per week, once per week, and once in two weeks with modifications) and 5 N levels (0–200 kg ha−1). Average seasonal soil moisture tension ranged from 9.2 to 20 kPa but yield hardly responded to the treatment combinations and ranged from 0 to 2 t ha−1. In addition to trial-specific parameters, root knot nematodes and micronutrients (2005) were monitored. Galling of roots due to nematodes was assessed through a rating scale of 0–5, with 0 = no galling and 5 = >75% of the root system galled. The degree of galling reached a level of 5 at flowering and harvest in 2004, and 3 at tillering and 4 at harvest in 2005. Results of a plant tissue analysis at mid-tillering for Fe, Mn, and Zn showed on average values above critical levels; individual replicates, however, indicated deficiencies for Mn. In addition to actual field observations, we used simulation modeling (ORYZA2000) as a tool to estimate attainable yield under actual water conditions and N inputs to explore how yield failure set in. Simulation results matched observed values for total above-ground biomass and leaf area index quite well when no N was applied. When high rates of N (200 and 165 kg ha−1) were applied, simulated values matched actual field data only until about the panicle initiation stage; afterward, observed values remained below the simulation. We interpreted this as evidence that growth-limiting factors other than water or N affected the crop from this growth stage on. Observations made in the field on root knot nematodes and micronutrients suggested that these two factors, especially root knot nematodes, may have been major constraints to crop development in this experiment.  相似文献

Water soluble plasma proteins were fractionated from hen's egg yolk, and the molecular weight and pI of the most abundant protein species were characterized with gel electrophoresis. The proteins were identified by mass spectrometry. The protein fraction was used to produce oil-in-water emulsions, both at various protein concentrations and at various pH values, and the surface load was determined through serum depletion. The competitive adsorption was studied through the determination of nonadsorbing species with gel electrophoresis. The results show that it was possible to form an oil-in-water emulsion for which droplet size and maximum surface load depended on the protein concentration and pH. Serum albumin and YGP40 adsorbed selectively at the oil/water interface throughout the pH range investigated, and for albumin the selectivity increased close to its pI. It is suggested that this selective adsorption is due to long hydrophobic stretches in the polypeptide chain, which are present in the selectively adsorbing species but absent in less adsorbing species.  相似文献

The metabolism of organic pollutants by plants normally requires contaminant direct uptake by cells. Factors affecting this uptake and the later distribution of chemicals within the plant include the physicochemical properties of the compounds (concentration, structure, solubility, log k(ow), diffusion rate) and the biochemical characteristics of the plant. This paper reports the tolerance, uptake, and effects of the pesticides carbaryl, linuron, and permethrin on Lupinus angustifolius germination and growth as well as contaminant intraplant distribution and possible degradation. Lupine plants were grown in hydroponic culture containing either 1 or 5 mg of the individual pesticides, or combinations of these (1, 5, or 10 mg of each), in 100 mL nutrient and water solutions. Analysis of the remaining solutions 8 days post-germination showed the water solutions to have higher remaining pesticide concentrations than nutrient solutions. Furthermore, in the presence of pesticides, germination was more frequent in the water solutions. After 16 days of growth, the plants were harvested, and their tissues were microwaved digested and analyzed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography. Although only minor quantities of each pesticide were detected in plant tissues, their amount in the roots was higher than in the stems. No accumulation was noted in the cotyledons, and only 2% of linuron was detected in the leaves. Mass recovery at the end of the experiment showed that 57, 53, and 55% of carbaryl, linuron, and permethrin, respectively, were degraded and/or bound in an irreversible manner to plant material. The results suggest that L. angustifolius could be useful for the cleaning/remediation of pesticide-contaminated water.  相似文献

An 11-year-old male Belgian shepherd dog was evaluated for a one-week history of progressive lethargy, decreased appetite and excessive panting. On physical examination, a pedunculated mass protruding from the right side of the tongue base was observed. The mass was solid, irregular and multi-lobulated, and it measured approximately 4×2 cm. The mass was surgically excised. The histological examination was consistent with a lingual osteoma and the margins were free of neoplastic cells. The dog was euthanased eight months after the diagnosis because of an unrelated problem and no evidence of recurrence at the surgical site was appreciated at that time. To the author's knowledge, this is the first report of a lingual osteoma in a dog, and, therefore, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of masses on the tongue, especially pedunculated masses located at the base of the tongue.  相似文献

At the Bear Brook Watershed in Maine (BBWM), we examined the effects of long-term experimentally elevated N and S deposition on foliar chemistry, growth, and photosynthetic capacity of sugar maple (Acer saccharum) saplings. The BBWM is a paired watershed system; one watershed has been acidified bimonthly with granular ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) since 1989. The adjacent watershed is used as a reference. We observed a 56% increase in foliar Al and a 25% reduction in foliar Ca for sugar maple saplings on the treated watershed compared to reference. Foliar N (+15%), P (+10%), and K (+15%) were significantly elevated in treated saplings. Along with changes in foliar nutrients, there were significant differences in photosynthetic capacity.  相似文献

In the semiarid central region of Argentina the probability that rainfall meets crop requirements during growing season is less than 10%, therefore fallowing has been the most important practice to assure water availability during the growing season. Various site-specific and management factors have been identified as crucial for defining fallow efficiency (FE) and final available water contents (AW). The objective of the present study was to improve our knowledge about the interactions between residue cover, weed control, soil profile depth and water storage capacity (WSC) on FE. In 10 sites covering the environments of calcareous plains and sandy plains of the semiarid central region of Argentina and with different WSC, experiments with 3 different levels of residue cover (H, M, L) and with and without weed control (C and W respectively) during fallow were set up. A completely randomized block design with four repetitions and splits plots to consider weed control was used. Soil texture and organic matter were determined in samples of the A horizon (0.20 m). Bulk density, field capacity, permanent wilting point and soil water contents (monthly frequency) were measured at depth intervals of 0.20 m to the depth of the calcite layer or to 2.00 m depth. Soil temperature was taken in weekly intervals at 0.05 m depth and weed plants, separated by species, were counted at the end of fallow in 4 repetitions of 0.25 m2 in each treatment. An empirical model was developed to predict final AW under these experimental conditions. Model parameters were: Residue level, weed control, WSC, profile depth, and rainfall during fallow. Site-specific conditions (WSC and profile depth) affected water storage during fallow; soils with highest values for both parameters showed highest final AW. Weed density was the most important factor that controlled AW, with on average 35 mm less AW in W than in C treatments. Residue level had a positive effect on final AW in both C and W treatments, with a difference of 18.5 mm between H and L. An interaction between residue level and weed density was observed, indicating weed suppression in H treatments. This was also confirmed by correspondence analysis between residue level and weed species which revealed that different species were related to each level. High residue levels also decreased soil temperature, thus affecting germination of post-fallow crops. The empirical model had an overall average prediction error of 13.7% and the regression between measured and predicted values showed a determination coefficient of 0.77.  相似文献
