In the present study, we assessed small fishes as potential feed fishes with the lowest mercury levels. The mercury levels
of four small pelagic fishes and a benthic fish from the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, i.e., spotted chub mackerel Scomber australasicus, chub mackerel Scomber japonicus, horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus, round scad Decapterus punctatus, and bastard halibut Paralichthys olivaceus, were determined. Total mercury levels in fish muscle were measured using a reduction vaporizing atomic absorption method.
There were no significant correlations between body weight and mercury levels for these species. However, significant differences
were observed in the mercury levels of these species between the two catch locations, with fish caught in the Pacific Ocean
having higher mercury levels. This difference may be due to the Pacific Ring of Fire, a highly seismically and volcanically
active zone, which is located in the Pacific Ocean. Preference for these fishes for use in aquaculture should refer to the
area where they are caught in addition to the species. 相似文献

A 4-year, 7-month-old Holstein cow presented with anorexia. Physical examination revealed masses in the interscapular region and vagina. Blast cells were detected in the masses and peripheral blood by fine needle aspiration cytology and hematological examination. By bone marrow aspiration, blast cells constituted up to 24.2% of all nucleated cells, and 22% and 2% of non-erythroid cells stained positive for myeloperoxidase and alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase (ANAE), respectively. Pathological examination revealed the mass lesions consisted of a proliferation of tumor cells, which were positive for monocytic markers (HLA-DR and Iba-1). The cow was diagnosed with acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMML). Even when tumor cells are ANAE-negative, AMML cannot be completely ruled out and should be considered when diagnosing cattle with leukemia/lymphoma. 相似文献

We performed a standing hand-assisted laparoscopic ovariectomy in a draft mare that presented with high serum anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level and had an enlarged single cystic ovary. Histopathological examination revealed no tumor cell proliferation in the ovary, but the presence of a large ovarian cyst was confirmed. In the diagnosis of abnormal ovaries in mares, a comprehensive assessment should be performed, including the monitoring of ovarian morphology and biomarkers over time, to determine the disease prognosis and treatment plan. The case of this mare with a nonneoplastic abnormal ovary and increased serum AMH level was rare. We suggest that standing hand-assisted laparoscopic ovariectomy is useful for the removal of large ovaries in draft mares. 相似文献

In this report, we describe a case of lipomatosis in the left parotid gland of an eight-year-old female Shetland sheepdog and review the relevant literature. Preoperative diagnosis of lipomatosis with Tru-Cut biopsy presented difficulties in this case. The postoperative diagnosis was based on the gross appearance of a non-infiltrative, circumscribed swollen mass in the parotid gland and the histological appearance of normal adipocytes that infiltrated into the parotid gland without involving surrounding structures. Additionally, flotation of the whole parotid gland in formalin solution together with well-maintained residual lobulation and a well-maintained configuration on the cut surface were identified as subsidiary characteristics of lipomatosis of the parotid gland. Lipomatosis of the parotid gland has been rarely reported in dogs and is a poorly understood condition. 相似文献

To estimate the importance of leaching of dissolved organic matter (DOM) as a pathway through which organic matter is supplied
to stream ecosystems, we examined the amount of leachate over time and chemical properties of DOM leached from leaves in different
conditions. The samples used were green leaves, yellow senescent leaves, and leaf litter of Salix gracilistyla Miq., which is the dominant riparian plant species in the middle reaches of rivers in western Japan. We analyzed dissolved
organic carbon (DOC), total sugar, and polyphenol in the leachate of leaf samples collected from a fluvial bar in the middle
reaches of the Ohtagawa River in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. Considerable leaching of DOC from senescent leaves [37.3 mg g−1 dry weight (dw) leaf] and leaf litter (8.1 mg g−1 dw leaf) occurred within 24 h after immersion. In contrast, DOC leached from green leaves was negligible until 1 week after
leaf immersion. Carbon loss of leaves by leaching within 24 h after leaf immersion was estimated to be less than 8%, suggesting
that leaching of DOC from S. gracilistyla leaves is a minor pathway through which organic matter is supplied to stream ecosystems. DOM leached from the leaves included
sugar and polyphenol, which were among the major chemical forms of DOM leached from the leaves (based on the molecular mass).
In a laboratory experiment in which the difference in the stability of DOM between the chemical forms was examined, sugar

The wild tuber-bearing Solanumspecies represent a genetic pool of enormous diversity, embracing high variability for many agronomic traits. S. kurtzianum (ktz), S. chacoense(chc) and S. ruiz-lealii (rzl) are wild diploid self-incompatible relatives of the common potato, Solanum tuberosumssp. tuberosum, with resistance to adverse biotic and abiotic factors. Pollen-pistil/style compatibility relations and seed set in intra-
and interspecific crosses among ktz, chc and rzl were investigated. Pre- and post-zygotic hybridization barriers were detected
in the three species, with variable incidence because the percentage of genotypic combinations that produced seeds was15–30%
and 7–28% in intra and interspecific crosses, respectively. In pollen-pistil/style incompatible combinations, either pollen
grains did not germinate or pollen tube growth was arrested at different sites of the style, but mainly in its upper third.
Unilateral incompatibility was detected in both intra-and interspecific crosses, as well as bilateral incompatibility in certain
combinations. The incompatibility relations observed could be explained by a genetic model with dominant genes in pistils
that interact with corresponding dominant genes in pollen, that are independent of the S-locus. The complex arrangement of
compatibility relationships found could not be directly related to taxonomic hypothesis or geographic distribution. These
results suggest that divergence between the three species has occurred recently, and that internal barriers of reproductive
isolation have not been an important factor in their evolution.

The polyphenol content in pearl barley, which is highly correlated to a browning reaction after heat treatment, was investigated
using 1,347 cultivated barley varieties (H. vulgare) and two wild accessions (H. vulgare subsp. spontaneum) collected from different areas of the world. The polyphenol content in the cultivated barley shows a wide variation ranging
from 0.19 to 0.75 mg/g with a nearly normal frequency distribution. The polyphenol content in the hulless varieties from Japan
and Korea was low. On the other hand, the polyphenol content in wild barley was about two times higher than the average value
recorded in cultivated barley. Based on HPLC analysis, five lowest-polyphenol content local varieties do not represent proanthocyanidin-free
mutants.

Summary Hybridizations between three lines of the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and two lines of the lima bean (P. lunatus L.) were attempted in order to transfer characters from the lima bean to the common bean. A total of 115 interspecific hybrid embryos were rescued and cultured, and 7 plantlets were eventually transferred to soil. The most compatible cross was Edogawa XPI164891, which had a high proportion of expanded ovules, and from which we obtained one mature interspecific hybrid. In general, morphological characters of the hybrid were intermediate between the parents, and the chromosome number of the hybrid was 2n=22 the same as that of both parents. The hybrid nature of the progeny plant was confirmed by restriction endonuclease analysis of rDNA. Species specific fragments were detected when total DNA was digested by BamHI, and BamHI-digested total DNA of the hybrid contained all fragments from both parents. Selves and backcrosses were attempted, but no progeny were obtained. The only hybrid obtained was completely sterile and meiosis highly irregular. 相似文献

A 3-year-old, spayed female miniature dachshund was presented for vomiting and anorexia. Thoracic radiographs and CT scan revealed abnormal pulmonary opacities at bilateral caudal lobe. Cytological analysis of the pulmonary mass revealed the presence of large lymphohistiocytic cells and small lymphocytes with occasional neutrophils and plasma cells. An open lung biopsy was performed and a diagnosis of pulmonary lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LYG) was made. The dog was administered CHOP based therapy (modified UW-25), and it survived for 1,022 days after admission. Immunohistochemistry revealed pulmonary lesions consisted of many CD79a positive B cells aggregation and proliferation with prominent angiocentric pattern. This was the first case of canine pulmonary LYG managed by CHOP chemotherapy. 相似文献

Abstract Peasant farmers in northern Nigeria indigenously use various plants to protect cereals and legumes against pest damage during storage. We have developed and employed a simple bioassay technique to assess plants for their ability to protect cowpea from damage by weevil during storage. Of the 10 plants screened, Hyptis suaveolens Poit. (Labiatae) and Sphenoclea zeylanica G earth (Sphenocleacea) showed the best protectant effects after 4 months. The details of the bioassay procedure used and the results obtained are reported. 相似文献
