The Interdependence of Deformational and Thermal Processes in Mountain Belts

Crustal temperatures within collisional orogens are anomalously high compared with temperatures at comparable depths in stable continents, which is evidence of thermal processes that are fundamental to orogenesis. These temperatures can be explained by the redistribution of crust enriched in heat-producing elements through the accretion of crust from the down-going plate to the upper plate and surface erosion. With the use of geologically reasonable rates, the model results predict high temperatures (over 600°C) and inverted upper-plate geotherms (about 100°C over 20 kilometers) at shallow depths (20 to 40 kilometers) by 25 to 35 million years after collision. This study emphasizes the interdependence of deformational, surficial, and thermal processes.  相似文献   

Some observations on susceptibility and resistance of winter wheat to the aphid Sitobion avenae (F.) in Britain

Resistance to Sitobion avenae (F.) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) was assessed in glasshouse tests of 20 winter wheat varieties that were of major importance or are currently recommended for British agriculture. The varieties Kador, Bounty, Rapier, Virtue, Bouquet and Maris Ranger were relatively resistant and the varieties Maris Huntsman, Armada, Joss Cambier, Bersée and Hybrid 46 were the most susceptible. The significance of these findings for growers, for integrated control of cereal aphids and for plant breeding is considered.  相似文献

Fibroleiomyomas of the ovary are rare. This smooth muscle tumour may develop and increase in size during pregnancy. Diagnosis is based on histological and immunohistochemical analyses. Histologically, the ovarian fibroleiomyoma consists of non‐invasive bundles of smooth muscle cells that synthesize collagen‐like extracellular matrix. This case report describes an ovarian fibroleiomyoma in a pregnant multiparous broodmare with a history of intermittent signs of colic.  相似文献
