Objective: To describe an unusual site of hemorrhage in a case of anticoagulant rodenticide toxicity. Case summary: A dog treated for Brodifacoum anticoagulant rodenticide intoxication was referred for treatment of thrombocytopenia and dysuria. Sonographic examination revealed a large blood clot within the urinary bladder, extending proximally along both ureters, and a bilateral hydronephrosis. In this dog, management of the vitamin K1‐dependent coagulopathy was unusually complicated by uremia and thrombocytopenia. New information provided: This is the first reported case of hydronephrosis secondary to anticoagulant rodenticide intoxication in a dog. 相似文献

Objective
To estimate the prevalence and risk factors for road traffic accidents (RTA) in dogs and describe the management and outcome of these dogs attending primary‐care veterinary practices in the United Kingdom.Design
Retrospective cross‐sectional study.Setting
Primary‐care veterinary practices in the United Kingdom.Animals
The study population included 199,464 dogs attending 115 primary‐care clinics across the United Kingdom.Measurements and main results
Electronic patient records of dogs attending practices participating in the VetCompass Programme were assessed against selection criteria used to define RTA cases. Cases identified as RTAs were identified and manually verified to calculate prevalence. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression methods were used to evaluate associations between risk factors and RTA. The prevalence of RTA was 0.41%. Of the RTA cases, 615 (74.9%) were purebred, 322 (39.2%) were female, and 285 (54.8%) were insured. The median age at RTA was 2.5 years. After accounting for the effects of other factors, younger dogs had increased odds of an RTA event: dogs aged under 3 years showed 2.9 times the odds and dogs aged between 6–9 years showed 1.8 times the odds of an RTA event compared with dogs aged over 14 years. Males had 1.4 times the odds of an RTA event compared with females. Overall, 22.9% of cases died from a cause associated with RTA. Of dogs with information available, 34.0% underwent diagnostic imaging, 29.4% received intravenous fluid‐therapy, 71.1% received pain relief, 46.0% were hospitalized, and 15.6% had surgery performed under general anesthetic. Conclusions
This study identified important demographic factors associated with RTA in dogs, notably being young and male.46.

Objective – To describe the clinical management of a case of Candida albicans peritonitis in a dog and discuss the pathogenicity of Candida peritonitis along with treatment using the fungistatic agent, fluconazole.
Case Summary – A 15-week-old Papillon developed peritonitis secondary to enterectomy site dehiscence. A pure growth of Candida albicans was obtained from the abdominal fluid. Surgical repair of the dehiscence was performed and antifungal therapy instituted with fluconazole postoperatively. A marked exudative process was noted postoperatively with production of large volumes of fluid from the abdominal drain. Fresh frozen plasma and pentastarch were provided for oncotic support. Recovery was complicated by megaesophagus, however, the patient gradually improved and was discharged 11 days after surgery.
New or Unique Information Provided – To our knowledge, this is the first case report of successful treatment of Candida albicans peritonitis in a dog. A marked exudative process was noted during therapy requiring significant oncotic support. Resolution of the disease process was achieved with surgical intervention and antifungal therapy. 相似文献

Objective: To report a technique for surgical treatment of septic jugular thrombophlebitis unresponsive to medical treatment. Study Design: Case series. Animals: Horses (n=9) with septic jugular thrombophlebitis unresponsive to medical treatment. Methods: Jugular vein thrombectomy was performed under standing sedation and local anesthesia. The contents of the affected portion of vein were removed by multiple incisions in the vein, with the incisions left open to drain and heal by second intention. Results: The technique was curative in all instances, although 2 horses required a 2nd procedure. One horse required ligation of the linguofacial vein to control postsurgical hemorrhage. Conclusions: The technique is an effective surgical treatment for septic jugular thrombophlebitis unresponsive to medical treatment. Clinical Relevance: Jugular vein thrombectomy is a straightforward technique, and has minimal postoperative complications. It allows expedient and cost‐effective resolution of medically recalcitrant cases of septic jugular thrombophlebitis. 相似文献

A one-year-old female labrador Retriever dog was admitted to the Emergency Service after playing in a lake for several hours. Physical examination revealed coma, hypothermia, and bradycardia. Marked diuresis was noted. A serum biochemical profile revealed hyposmolality, hyponatremia, and hypoproteinmia suggestive of dilution of serum constituents. Acute water intoxication was diagnosed. Recovery was complete and occurred without specific therapy. Acute water intoxication should be considered in the differential diagnosis of coma. (Vet Emerg & Crit Care, 1999, 9: 19–25) 相似文献
