Two experiments were designed to determine whether pretreatment with triamcinolone acetonide (TRI) prior to induction of parturition with dexamethasone (DEX) and cloprostenol (CLO) would reduce the incidence of retained placenta. Experiment 1 was conducted to determine the optimum dosage of TRI and to approximate the optimum interval from TRI to induction with DEX + CLO. All cows received TRI on day 270 of gestation. Cows in group I received 1 mg/30 kg of body weight (BW) of TRI and were induced to calve with DEX + CLO on day 276. Cows in groups II and III received 1 mg/45 kg BW and were induced on days 276 or 277, respectively. Cows in groups IV and V received 1 mg/60 kg BW and were induced on days 277 or 278, respectively. Group VI cows served as untreated controls. There was no difference in the incidence of retained placenta among the treated and control groups. Experiment 2 was conducted to more precisely determine the optimum interval from pretreatment to induction treatment with the chosen dose of TRI. All cows in groups I, II, and III were pretreated with 1 mg/60 kg BW of TRI on day 270 of gestation and received DEX + CLO on days 275, 276 or 277, respectively. Group IV cows served as untreated controls. The effect of part-baking and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on quality and microbial stability of part-baked flat bread (Sangak) was investigated. Part-baked Sangak bread was packaged in 100% CO2, 50% CO2:50% N2, 25% CO2:75% N2 and air as a control and stored at 25 °C for 21 days. Color, firmness, moisture, density and microbiological analyses of the package breads were carried out at 3-day intervals during storage. No significant effect of MAP was found on moisture, color and texture during the storage of part-baked bread, while the total aerobic plate count (APC) and the mold and yeast count (M + Y) were dependent on the concentration of CO2 in the package headspace. With increasing concentration of CO2, microbial counts were decreased. Density of part-baked bread was also somewhat influenced by the MAP. The observed reduction in the density of control samples during storage was less than those in MAP. The results of the present study demonstrated that it is possible to prolong the shelf-life of Sangak bread from a few days to about 21 days by using bake-off technology (BOT) and MAP under high CO2 concentration.  相似文献

An increasing number of laboratory tests are available for diagnosis of gastrointestinal tract diseases in dogs and cats. Use of these tests can lead to more accurate and rapid diagnoses. This review discusses laboratory tests, both new and old, and the role they currently play in the evaluation of animals presented with gastrointestinal problems. A minimum database helps assess the severity of the disorder, detect extra-gastrointestinal causes of problems and assists in formulating diagnostic and therapeutic plans.

Faecal examination remains one of the most important diagnostic procedures in the investigation of gastrointestinal problems. Zinc sulphate faecal flotation is an excellent routine screening technique for helminth and protozoal infections, including giardiasis. Rectal cytology can assist in the diagnosis of large bowel disorders. Interpretation of faecal immunodiagnostic tests is hampered by insufficient knowledge of test sensitivities and specificities. Routine faecal cultures are not warranted and faecal occult blood tests are rarely indicated.

Serum tests for gastric inflammation are now under development. The serum trypsin-like immunoreactivity test remains the gold standard technique for the diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Breath hydrogen tests can be helpful in assessing the functional relevance of mild abnormalities in small-bowel biopsy specimens. Subnormal concentrations of serum cobalamin appear to be more specific indicators of gastrointestinal disease in cats than in dogs. Tests for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth remain controversial and assessment of gastrointestinal permeability has yet to prove its value in the diagnostic assessment of companion animals with gastrointestinal problems. Faecal alpha1-protease inhibitor (α1-PI) shows promise for the diagnosis of protein-losing enteropathy.  相似文献

The main propose of the present study was to determine the effects of diazinon on the activity and gene expression of glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) as the key enzyme of Langerhans islet for secretion of insulin. Diazinon was administered intraperitoneally at doses of 15, 30, and 60 mg/kg. Langerhans islets were isolated from the pancreas of rats by a standard collagenase digestion, separation by centrifugation, and hand-picking technique. The activity and gene expression of the mitochondrial GDH was determined in the islets homogenates. Glutamate, C-peptide, and insulin were determined in plasma.Diazinon at all tested doses (15, 30, and 60 mg/kg) significantly (p < 0.01) decreased plasma insulin after 1 h while the values did not differ from control when examined after 18 h. Diazinon at all tested doses (15, 30, and 60 mg/kg) significantly (p < 0.01) increased concentration of C-peptide both 1 and 18 h post-administration. Diazinon at all tested doses (15, 30, and 60 mg/kg) significantly (p < 0.05) increased production of glutamate while the values did not differ from control when tested after 18 h. Administration of diazinon at doses of 30 and 60 mg/kg significantly (p < 0.001) increased activity of GDH after 1 h while all doses of diazinon increased GDH activity when measured after 18 h. Diazinon at dose of 60 mg/kg significantly (p < 0.01) decreased expression of GDH gene 18 h post-administration.It is concluded that GDH is a component of diazinon-induced changes in release of improper insulin.  相似文献

Bemisia tabaci is a species complex, of which the B and Q biotypes are globally distributed. B. tabaci feeds on more than 600 plant species including cotton, which is one of the main crops in Pakistan. In this study, the biotypes/haplotypes of B. tabaci populations collected from cotton plants in Pakistan, China, and Egypt were identified, and their phylogenetic relationships were investigated. None of the populations from Pakistan or Egypt belonged to the B or Q biotype: all 16 samples from Pakistan belonged to haplotype “PCG-1” and it is a group of unresolved populations all from Pakistan, while all three populations from Egypt belonged to unresolved haplotype “ECG.” The three populations from China belonged to the B biotype. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the PCG-1, ECG, and B biotypes clustered into different clades even though they share the same cotton plant species as their host. The association between the outbreaks of cotton leaf curl disease and the occurrence of the PCG haplotype of B. tabaci in Pakistan is discussed.  相似文献

To test whether undernutrition during foetal to pre‐pubertal life would have long lasting effects on testicular histology in adult male offspring, eleven adult Sprague–Dawley pregnant rats were divided into two groups: Control group, n = 4, fed ad libitum, during gestation and lactation (until 25 day post‐partum). Underfed group pregnant females (n = 7) were kept in cages where only dams had access to food (standard rat chow, 33.5% of ad libitum intake of Control group pregnant dams). After parturition, litters were adjusted to either 14 (Underfed group) or eight (Control group) pups. Mothers were weighed weekly. At 25 day of age pups were weaned, housed at four animals per cage, fed ad libitum and weighed weekly until euthanized at 100 day of age. Testes were processed for standard histology and morphometrical evaluation. At weaning, mother weight was lower in Underfedthan in Control group (mean ± SD): 214.1 ± 26.2 g vs 361.9 ± 33.1 g. Body weight at 100 days of age (254 ± 26.9 g vs 342.4 ± 10.2 g, p ≤ 0.001), testicular weight (1.29 ± 0.16 g vs 1.45 ± 0.13 g, p = 0.03), number of Sertoli cells per seminiferous tubule cross section (18.2 ± 1.2 vs 20.2 ± 1.3, p ≤ 0.01) and per testis (30.5 ± 4.2×106 vs 36.0 ± 5.4×106) were lower (p < 0.05) in Underfed than in Control group. This is the first report stating that foetal to pubertal subnutrition is accompanied by changes in testicular structure and lower Sertoli cell numbers in adult life, strongly suggesting lower daily sperm production.  相似文献

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR), an important parameter of renal function, is difficult to assess clinically. Serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen measurements lack sensitivity, whereas radionuclide determination of GFR is not always available and requires postinjection patient isolation. GFR can be determined using computed tomography (CT), most commonly via Patlak plot analysis. Four adult cats, two adult dogs, and a foal underwent abdominal CT under general anesthesia for various diseases of the upper urinary tract. CT‐GFR was measured with a single‐slice dynamic acquisition and Patlak plot analysis. In five animals, the total CT‐GFR appeared to be below normal, corresponding with mild (two animals) and moderate (two animals) increases of serum creatinine in four. In the two animals with normal or increased CT‐GFR, serum creatinine was within the reference values. A significant negative logarithmic relationship was found between CT‐GFR and serum creatinine values (P=0.008; r2=0.75). No complications occurred during or following CT‐GFR. CT examination provided clinically relevant information in 3/5 patients with possible ureteral obstruction and in 3/3 patients with suspected ureteral calculi. Single‐slice dynamic CT‐GFR was practical and provided clinically useful information in this small series of patients undergoing CT of the upper urinary tract. There was a significant relationship between CT‐GFR and serum creatinine values, which supports the clinical potential of CT‐GFR and justifies further investigation of this technique.  相似文献

In this research, the factors affecting seed production of six landraces (Sefid-e-Ghom, Germez-e-Azarshahr, Dorcheh-e-Isfahan, Tarom, Germez-e-Kazeroon, Sefid-e-Abarkooh) and a foreign cultivar (Yellow Sweet Spanish as a control) were evaluated in a randomized complete block design experiment with three replications. Results indicated significant differences between genotypes regarding some of the traits. Seed stalks were emerged in Tarom and Yellow Sweet Spanish earlier than other landraces. Flowering of Germez-e-Kazeroon and Tarom were the first and last, respectively. Also, ripening of seed in Germez-e-Kazeroon and Yellow Sweet Spanish was earlier and later than other landraces, respectively. The number of seed stalks/plant and seed yield/ha were increased while increasing in bulb size from 5 to 7 cm. Among the landraces, Sefid-e-Ghom and Germez-e-Azarshahr showed the highest and lowest number of seed stalks/plant, respectively. Sefid-e-Ghom, also, showed the highest seed yield/inflorescence, /plant and/ha. Although the differences were not significant statistically. Relationships between traits showed that seed yield/plant and /ha was a positively correlated with the number of seed stalks/plant. Genotypes were grouped in three clusters using Ward method.  相似文献

Marbled spinefoot, Siganus rivulatus, is a herbivorous euryhaline teleost widely distributed in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is an economically valuable species and a suitable candidate for warm water aquaculture. Accordingly, understanding the effects of environmental factors on fish metabolism is important to optimize culture conditions. Two experiments were performed to establish standard metabolic rate and study the effect of salinity on metabolism of marbled spinefoot. In the first experiment, a series of flow‐through respirometry experiments was performed at 27°C and 35 g L?1. The standard metabolic rate of marbled spinefoot juveniles was calculated as 0.57 ± 0.02 mg O2 g?1 h?1 (mean ± SE). In the second experiment, fish were maintained at salinities of 25, 30, 35 and 40 g L?1 for 2 weeks. Flow‐through respirometry was performed to measure respiration rates at the various salinities. Respiration rates were similar among fish in salinities of 30, 35 and 40 g L?1 but increased significantly at 25 g L?1. Results suggest that despite the euryhalinity of marbled spinefoot, farmers should maintain salinity within the optimal range of 30–40 g L?1 in order to improve productivity.  相似文献
