A large-effect QTL for grain yield under drought conditions (qtl12.1) was reported in a rice mapping population derived from Vandana and Way Rarem. Here, we measured the effect of qtl12.1 on grain yield and associated traits in 21 field trials: ten at IRRI in the Philippines and 11 in the target environment
of eastern India. The relative effect of the QTL on grain yield increased with increasing intensity of drought stress, from
having no effect under well-watered conditions to having an additive effect of more than 40% of the trial mean in the most
severe stress treatments. The QTL improved grain yield in nine out of ten direct-seeded upland trials where drought stress
was severe or moderate, but no effect was measured under well-watered aerobic conditions or under transplanted lowland conditions.
These trials confirm that qtl12.1 has a large and consistent effect on grain yield under upland drought stress conditions, in a wide range of environments. 相似文献

Swietenine, a tetranortriterpenoid, was isolated from the Swietenia macrophylla seeds. The in vivo hypoglycemic activity was evaluated against neonatal-streptozotocin induced type 2 diabetic rats. Sponge gourd is a popular vegetable grown throughout India. Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus, the causal virus of tomato leaf curl disease, has recently been reported to be associated with sponge gourd, causing up
to 100% crop loss under epidemic conditions. We have collected 30 genotypically diverse genotypes of sponge gourd from different
parts of India, screened these for resistance under natural epiphytotic conditions, and then confirmed the results through
challenge inoculation with a purified strain of the virus under insect-proof greenhouse conditions. The minimum vulnerability
index was recorded in genotype DSG-6 (3.33), followed by DSG 7 (6.0) under the challenge (whitefly-populated) inoculation
conditions. Two susceptible genotypes (‘Pusa Sneha’ and NSG-1-11), both possessing desirable fruit characters, were crossed
with the two most promising resistant lines (DSG-6 and DSG-7) and the disease reaction of segregating and backcross generations
studied through challenge inoculation with a purified strain of virus under insect-proof greenhouse conditions. A chi-square
(χ2) test of frequency distribution based on the vulnerability index of the F2 progenies of the two resistant × susceptible crosses revealed monogenic dominant Mendelian ratio 3(R):1(S) to be the best
fit in all crosses. This monogenic dominant model was further confirmed by the 1(R):1(S) ratio found to be best fit for the
test cross with the susceptible parent. These results reveal that resistance to Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus associated with yellow mosaic disease of sponge gourd is controlled by a single dominant gene in the genetic background of
the resistant parents (DSG-6 and DSG-7) and that these two lines can be effectively utilized for the development of high-yielding
and yellow mosaic disease-resistant varieties/hybrids of sponge gourd. This is the first conclusive identification of a resistant
source and the inheritance of resistance against Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus in sponge gourd. 相似文献

The present study was conducted with an objective to estimate the distribution of boron (B) application in various soil fractions and their plant response for assessing the availability in the soil. Two soils (alluvial and red soil) and five levels of B (0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 3?mg B kg?1 soil) were applied in the pot experiment, and pots were sown with cauliflower (Sabour Agrim) arranged in a completely randomized block design (CRD) with three replications. Result showed that the curd yield of cauliflower increased significantly upto 2?mg B kg?1 soil irrespective of soils. The percent yield increase was 14.78 and 15.01 in alluvial and red soil over the control, respectively. The initial total B content was 35.88 (alluvial soil) and 15.51 (red soil) mg·kg?1. The mean content of Fraction I, II, III, IV and V in alluvial soil was 1.11, 1.54, 0.65, 1.49, and 95.18% and in red soil was 2.68, 4.47, 6.62, 2.50, and 83.59% of the total soil B, respectively. For changes in amount of B fractions due to B applications there was significant effect on all the fractions except Fraction II. The increase in apparent B uptake was 0.43?mg B kg?1 in alluvial soil and 0.25?mg B kg?1 in red soil over the control (0?mg B kg?1 soil). Regression equation of yield and B fractions showed the relationship between first four fractions to the yield. Residual fraction was found to be collinear during calculation. Partial replacement of live feed (LF) with formulated feed (FF) was performed in Betta splendens to evaluate their growth, survival and reproductive performance. Three hundred B. splendens fry of uniform size (mean weight 0.19 g±0.01) were equally distributed in five treatment groups with each of three replicates in glass aquaria of 35 L capacity. Fish were offered diets of different ratio of LF and FF like T1 (control) – 100% LF; T2 – 75% LF, 25% FF; T3 – 50% LF, 50% FF; T4 – 25% LF, 75% FF and T5 – 100% FF. Highest (P<0.05) body weight gain (% BWG) (67.1±1.03) and specific growth rate (2.34±0.02) were observed in the T2 group. Best feed conversion ratio was also found in T2 (2.40±0.11), which was similar to T1 and T3. The highest survival rate (%) was recorded in T1, T2 and T3 groups (97±1.7), which was similar to T4 and the lowest in T5 (49±2.0). The highest gonadal weight (0.12 g±0.01) and gonadosomatic index (15.17±0.50) was observed in the T3 group during the first sampling after 63 days. No significant changes in spawning performance were observed in the second sampling after 21 days after first sampling. However, T4 group registered the highest fecundity and fertilized eggs at the end of 105 days of experiment. From the present study, it concludes that LF can be successfully replaced to the extent of 25% by FF without any detrimental effect on the growth, survival and spawning performance of B. splendens. 相似文献
