The authors have investigated the influence of protein content and composition on the spaghetti quality obtained by six varieties of Italiandurum wheat. Both factors play an important role but the quality is particularly influenced by water and isopropanol soluble fractions.  相似文献

Objective: To report a dog experiencing full recovery after delayed neurological sequelae secondary to smoke inhalation, and to review the related literature. Case summary: A 1‐year‐old Australian shepherd dog was found unconscious in a house fire. Although recovery after initial therapy was reportedly complete, the dog's condition acutely worsened 4 days later and progressed to stupor and non‐ambulatory tetraparesis with subsequent pneumonia. Therapy was successful, and the dog regained full neurologic function after approximately one week. New or unique information provided: Delayed neurologic sequelae may occur in dogs after smoke inhalation (and presumably carbon monoxide) injury. Neurologic recovery can be complete and sustained, even with severe central nervous system dysfunction.  相似文献

The widespread occurrence of 2ngametes (i.e. gametes with the somatic chromosome number) in the Medicago sativa-coerulea-falcata complex supports the concept that gene flow from diploid to tetraploid species occurs continuously in nature and plays a key role in alfalfa evolution. Breeders realized early that gene transfer between ploidy levels via 2n pollen and 2n eggs would have had potential use in cultivated alfalfa improvement. Cytological investigations provided insights into the types of meiotic abnormalities responsible for the production of 2n gametes. Alterations were defined as genetically equivalent to first (FDR) or second division restitution(SDR) mechanisms. For breeding purposes,data have proven that 2n gametes of the FDR type are more advantageous than those obtained by SDR for transferring parental heterozygosity and retaining epistatic interactions. The use of diploid meiotic mutants that produce 2ngametes is now recognized as one of the most effective methods available for exploiting heterosis and introgressing wild germplasm traits into cultivated tetraploid alfalfa via unilateral (USP) and bilateral sexual polyploidization (BSP) schemes. Both2n egg and 2n pollen producers could be used for direct gene transfer from wild diploid relatives into cultivated alfalfa by means of 2x-4x and4x-2x crosses. Although data have shown that forage yield improvement can be achieved when plants are sexually tetraploidized, problems related to reduced plant fertility and seed production remain largely unexplained. Apomixis has the potential of cloning plants through seed and thus provides a unique opportunity for developing superior tetraploid cultivars with permanently fixed heterosis and epistatic effects. A main goal in alfalfa breeding could be the introduction of functional apomixis (i.e. Apomeiosis and parthenogenesis) in cultivated alfalfa stocks. In the future, the efficiency of alfalfa breeding programs based on the use of reproductive mutants could be improved by direct selection at the genotype level using RFLPs and PCR-based markers. Suitable DNA markers and detailed linkage maps of alfalfa mutants should help to discover apomictic mutants and address basic genetic issues such as the extent of genomicre combination in polyploid hybrids and the effect of sexual polyploidization on heterosis. Molecular markers have recently been used in alfalfa for studying the inheritance of 2n gamete formation and identifying polymorphisms associated to genes involved in meiotic abnormalities. Molecular tagging of 2n egg and 2n pollen formation not only should explain the genetic control and regulation of these traits, but may also be an essential step towards marker-assisted selection of 2n gamete producers and implementation of USP and BSP breeding schemes. Future perspectives include strategies for the map-based cloning of genomic DNA markers,and screening of EST mini-libraries related to flowers at different developmental stages from meiotic mutants and wild-type scan lead to the identification of mRNAs and thus of candidate genes that control 2n gamete formation in alfalfa. CASE HISTORY: Death occurred in a 1.25 kg, 9-month-old female Pomeranian dog undergoing anaesthesia for surgical repair of partially healed fractures of the radius and ulna.

CLINICAL FINDINGS: Following sedation, anaesthesia was induced using thiopentone and maintained with halothane in oxygen. An acute decrease in the dog's end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) measurements was noted approximately 50 min after induction, immediately following delivery of a 5-ml bolus of lactated Ringer's solution (LRS) administered to flush a small (0.06 ml) volume of fentanyl via a pre-placed intravenous (I/V) catheter. Venous air embolism (VAE) was suspected and the dog died despite interventive therapy. On post-mortem examination, several air bubbles were noted when the right ventricle was opened under water. Histologically, the kidneys appeared abnormal with immature glomeruli, and the lungs appeared diffusely mineralised. The origin of the air was probably small bubbles and microbubbles that may have been present in the extension set and 20 ml syringe used for the administration of fentanyl and I/V fluids to the dog.

DIAGNOSIS: Renal dysplasia and diffuse pulmonary calcification, with VAE as the probable cause of death.

CLINICAL RELEVANCE: In this case of VAE-associated anaesthetic death, it is further speculated that underlying pulmonary disease, in the form of pulmonary calcification, may have contributed to an increased sensitivity to the adverse effects of VAE.  相似文献

Two cases of temporohyoid osteoarthropathy (THO) in young Australian horses are described. The pathogenesis of THO is yet to be fully elucidated, but current theories include extension of infection from otitis media or interna to the temporohyoid joint or a primary but non‐infectious degenerative condition within the temporohyoid joint. The young age of the horses and the unilateral distribution suggested an infectious aetiology. Both horses partially responded to treatment with broad‐spectrum antimicrobial and anti‐inflammatory drugs with concurrent management of ulcerative keratitis. The management of violent head shaking in one horse included the administration of gabapentin, an anticonvulsant known to have antihyperalgesic effects and reduce neuropathic pain.  相似文献

The introduction of carbon finance as an incentive in forestry farming has a potential of increasing the amount of carbon sequestered. However, this has created a daunting task among investors in forestry to optimise the joint production of wood and carbon sequestration. For instance, investors might find it profitable to give up some timber returns in exchange for carbon credits. This study evaluated expected income from growing Cupressus lusitanica Mill., Pinus patula Schiede ex Schltdl. & Cham., Eucalyptus saligna Sm. and Juniperus procera Hochst. ex Endl. for wood and/or the carbon market in central Kenya. The global average unit price of carbon and stumpage royalty were used to estimate expected returns from sale of carbon credits and wood, respectively. There were significant differences (p < 0.01) in the expected amount of income from sale of carbon and wood among the four species. Specifically, at economic rotation of 30 years with stand density of 532 trees ha?1 P. patula and C. lusitanica yielded US$28 050 and US$23 650, respectively, from sale of carbon compared with US$59 000 and US$51 000, respectively, from sale of wood. This was twice the value investors receive from clear-felling as compared with sales from carbon. Similarly, at economic rotation of 33 years with stand density of 150 trees ha?1, a forest investor in E. saligna would earn US$15 400 from sale of carbon compared with US$33 000 from sale of wood. Overall, the amount expected to be realised from sale of carbon was lower compared with that from sale of wood. This demonstrates that the price dynamics of carbon offsets in the voluntary and the compliance markets need to remain competitive and attractive for the forest owners to give up some timber returns in exchange for carbon income or to modify forest management regulation in order to increase carbon sequestration.  相似文献
