To understand the causes and to control harmful blooms of the giant Nomura??s jellyfish Nemopilema nomurai, it is essential to study the seed population (benthic polyps) and its environment. To locate the habitat of polyps, the first step is to find ephyrae shortly after detachment from polyps. We found five ephyrae of N. nomurai of 1?C2?mm diameter for the first time from plankton samples collected at two sites, one specimen in the northwestern East China Sea (32°12.3??N, 123°12??E) and the other four specimens in the Yellow Sea (34°05.8??N, 121°50.0??E), on 22 and 26 May 2011. From the developmental state and water temperature of ca. 16?°C at the sampling stations, the collected ephyrae were estimated to have detached from polyps in early May of the year. Considering the increase of water temperature which induces strobilation and the direction of transport in the northwestern East China Sea and in the Yellow Sea, the locality of the seed polyps of the present specimens is probably the sea-floor close to the Changjiang River mouth and along the coast of Jiangsu Province. 相似文献

Synthesis of analogues of two compounds with known insecticidal activity, both of which contain a 3,3-dichloro-2-propenyloxy group, produced 2-(trifluoromethyl)-4-phenoxyphenyl 3,3-dichloro-2-propenyl ether, which had weak activity against lepidopterous larvae. Structural modifications around this lead compound led to the development of pyridalyl [Pleo, S-1812; 2,6-dichloro-4-(3,3-dichloroallyloxy)phenyl 3-[5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridyloxy]propyl ether], which belongs to a new class of insecticides. Pyridalyl gives very good control of various lepidopterous and thysanopterous pests on cotton and vegetables, without phytotoxicity. It controls populations of Heliothis virescens F and Plutella xylostella (L) which are resistant to various currently used insecticides. It also produces unique insecticidal symptoms, so it may have a different mode of action from other existing insecticides. Pyridalyl is also less harmful than existing insecticides to various beneficial arthropods, so it should provide an important tool in IPM and insecticidal management programmes for the control of lepidopterous and thysanopterous pests. The ICR-derived glomerulonephritis (ICGN) mouse, a new inbred mouse strain with a hereditary nephrotic syndrome, is considered to be a good model of human idiopathic nephrotic syndrome and notably exhibits proteinuria and hypoproteinemia from the neonatal stage. In chronic renal disorder (CRD), anemia is a major subsequent symptom (renal anemia). The precise cause of renal anemia remains unclear, primarily owing to the lack of appropriate spontaneous animal models for CRD. To establish adequate animal models for anemia with CRD, we examined the hematological-biochemical properties and histopathological characteristics. With the deterioration of renal function, ICGN mice developed a normochromic and normocytic anemia, and exhibited normochromic and microcytic at the terminal stage. The expression of erythropoietin (EPO) mRNA both in the kidneys and liver and the EPO leak into the urine were observed in ICGN mice, indicating a disrupted metabolism of EPO in ICGN mice. In addition, a lack of iron induced by the hemolysis in the spleen and the leak of transferrin into urine as proteinuria aggravated the anemic condition. In conclusion, the ICGN mouse is a good model for anemia with CRD. 相似文献

Soluble sugars in feeds are important for ruminant production; however, performing numerous sugar analyses within a short period is a laborious task. Here, we developed a phenol-sulfuric acid (PSA) assay in a microplate format to quantify soluble sugars in ruminant feeds. This method is easy and quick and requires only a small quantity of harmful reagents. We found that assay measurements were not affected by the representative organic acids and sugar alcohol contained in feeds. The treatment of activated charcoal with ethanol extract prior to the PSA assay was effective in removing interfering compounds for a more accurate determination of soluble sugars in certain feeds. Furthermore, the inter-day and intra-day repeatability of the present method was acceptable. Hence, we conclude that the method developed in this study is suitable for routine analysis of soluble sugars content in ruminant feeds. 相似文献

An 8-year-old spayed female
Netherland Dwarf rabbit presented with a two-month history of dyspnea and snoring. A
computed tomography (CT) scan of the head revealed mass lesions in the right nasal cavity.
Surgical exenteration of the lesions was performed, and the histopathological diagnosis
was an intranasal adenocarcinoma. On the basis of this diagnosis, radiotherapy was planned
and consisted of eight fractions of 6 Gy administered once a week. After the completion of
radiation therapy, the soft tissue density in the right nasal cavity, as detected by CT,
significantly decreased. The prognosis has remained good for over 3 years after treatment.
This paper is the first to describe the clinical and pathological features of an

Relationship between cold resistance,heading traits and ear primordia development of wheat cultivars
Summary For breeding early heading wheat cultivars with resistance to frost damage which are well adapted to dry areas of West Asia and North Africa, the relationships between winter hardiness, ear primordia development and heading traits, i.e. veernalization requirement, photoperiodic response and narrow-sense earliness, were assessed using a total of 30 genotypes of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grown in an experiment in Syria. The results of artificial freezing tests indicated that cultivars with good winter hardiness were to be found only in the winter wheat cultivars which required 50 or more days of vernalization treatment. These winter wheat cultivars did not initiate internode elongation without vernalization even at 95 days after planting. Thus their ear primordia were still underground and were protected from frost injury at this stage. Photoperiodic response and narrow-sense earliness were not associated with winter hardiness and earliness of internode elongation, but were related to the number of days to heading after planting. This indicated the possibility for breeding early heading cultivars with winter hardiness and tiller frost avoidance by combining high vernalization requirement, short narrow-sense earliness and neutral response to photoperiod. 相似文献

The polyphenol content in pearl barley, which is highly correlated to a browning reaction after heat treatment, was investigated
using 1,347 cultivated barley varieties (H. vulgare) and two wild accessions (H. vulgare subsp. spontaneum) collected from different areas of the world. The polyphenol content in the cultivated barley shows a wide variation ranging
from 0.19 to 0.75 mg/g with a nearly normal frequency distribution. The polyphenol content in the hulless varieties from Japan
and Korea was low. On the other hand, the polyphenol content in wild barley was about two times higher than the average value
recorded in cultivated barley. Based on HPLC analysis, five lowest-polyphenol content local varieties do not represent proanthocyanidin-free
mutants.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield is severely reduced by the brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Stål, in Asian countries. Increasing resistance in rice against BPH can mitigate yield loss. Previous reports indicated the presence of three BPH resistance genes, BPH2, BPH17-ptb, and BPH32, in durable resistant indica rice cultivar ‘PTB33’. However, several important questions remain unclear; the genetic locations of BPH resistance genes on rice chromosomes and how these genes confer resistance, especially with relationship to three major categories of resistance mechanisms; antibiosis, antixenosis or tolerance. In this study, locations of BPH2, BPH17-ptb, and BPH32 were delimited using chromosome segment substitution lines derived from crosses between ‘Taichung 65’ and near-isogenic lines for BPH2 (BPH2-NIL), BPH17-ptb (BPH17-ptb-NIL), and BPH32 (BPH32-NIL). BPH2 was delimited as approximately 247.5 kbp between RM28449 and ID-161-2 on chromosome 12. BPH17-ptb and BPH32 were located between RM1305 and RM6156 on chromosome 4 and RM508 and RM19341 on chromosome 6, respectively. The antibiosis, antixenosis, and tolerance were estimated by several tests using BPH2-NIL, BPH17-ptb-NIL, and BPH32-NIL. BPH2 and BPH17-ptb showed resistance to antibiosis and antixenosis, while BPH17-ptb and BPH32 showed tolerance. These results contribute to the development of durable BPH resistance lines using three resistance genes from ‘PTB33’. 相似文献
