OBJECTIVE: To describe a modified 3-loop pulley suture pattern for the reattachment of canine tendons to bone along with a biomechanical comparison with the locking-loop suture. STUDY DESIGN: In vitro biomechanical study and clinical case report. ANIMALS OR SAMPLE POPULATION: Biomechanical study: 10 paired gastrocnemius tendons and calcaneii harvested from 5 canine cadavers. Case report: a Doberman with avulsion of the gastrocnemius tendon of insertion. METHODS: Biomechanical study: paired tendons were reattached to the calcaneus with either a modified 3-loop pulley pattern or a locking-loop pattern. Tensile loading to failure was performed. A direct, non-contact, method of gap measurement, using digital video, was used to measure gap formation. Load required to initiate gap formation (defined as load at a 1 mm gap) and to produce a 3 mm gap was evaluated in addition to maximum load and gap at failure. RESULTS: Mean (+/-SEM) 1 mm gap loads were 31.0+/-4.2 and 17.2+/-2.5 N, mean 3 mm gap loads were 49.1+/-2.4 and 28.9+/-3.2 N, and mean maximum loads were 72.9+/-4.3 and 55.8+/-2.2 N for the modified 3-loop pulley suture and the locking-loop suture, respectively. These differences were statistically significant (P<.05). The gap at failure was similar for both repairs. The clinical case remained sound 7 months postoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: A modified 3-loop pulley pattern is biomechanically superior to a locking-loop pattern for reattachment of the canine gastrocnemius tendon to bone and may be suitable for clinical use. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Tendon repairs with a gap >3 mm are reported to be at increased risk of rupture during the first 6 weeks postoperatively. A modified 3-loop pulley pattern resists gap formation better than a locking-loop pattern. 相似文献

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus septic arthritis occurred in a dog following elective joint surgery for cranial cruciate ligament rupture. Resolution of the infection was assisted by using a surgically implanted absorbable gentamicin-impregnated sponge. 相似文献

In a retrospective review of 43 femoral fractures, three dogs had separation of the femoral capital epiphysis from the metaphysis in the absence of trauma. Two of these dogs also had evidence of pathology in the contralateral femoral neck including, in one dog, displacement of the capital epiphysis in relation to the metaphysis without actual separation. The case histories, radiographic features and histopathological findings of these cases were reviewed and compared with previous cases of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) reported in dogs and also with SCFE in children. Pre-slip, acute, chronic and acute-on-chronic slips were Identified. Based on the cases reviewed, the authors advise internal fixation of stable slipped epiphyses in dogs. This may also be appropriate for unstable separations, although resorption of the femoral neck may preclude stable fixation and necessitate femoral head and neck excision. 相似文献

Objective— To describe associations between computed tomography (CT) and arthroscopy in dogs with elbow dysplasia lesions.
Study Design— Retrospective clinical study.
Sample Population— Canine elbows (n=101) investigated by CT and arthroscopy.
Methods— CT scans were reviewed for 10 predetermined CT signs and graded for osteophyte size. Surgical reports were reviewed for specific disease features and cartilage erosion grades. Associations between variables were investigated with multivariate logistic regression and correlation between osteophyte size and cartilage erosion with Spearman's rank order correlation.
Results— Medial coronoid process (MCP) fragment on CT was significantly associated with the arthroscopic identification of a displaced MCP fragment, cartilage erosion affecting the MCP, and cartilage erosion affecting the humeral condyle. Irregular radial incisure of the ulna on CT was significantly associated with the arthroscopic identification of cartilage erosion affecting the MCP. Osteophytes on CT were significantly associated with an abnormal arthroscopic examination. There was a moderately significant correlation between CT osteophyte grade and cartilage erosion grades for areas of the medial joint compartment (rs =0.44–0.48).
Conclusion— Some CT signs are significantly associated with arthroscopic features of elbow dysplasia lesions in dogs; however, other CT signs were not associated with arthroscopic findings, and CT and arthroscopy can provide contradictory information. Osteophyte size is moderately correlated with cartilage erosion of the medial joint compartment.
Clinical Relevance— CT can provide valuable information for the investigation of dogs with elbow dysplasia, but the absence of CT signs (or the absence of arthroscopic abnormalities) does not rule out elbow lesions. 相似文献
