The usefulness of prolidase as a biochemical parameter to represent the chronic state of hepatic abscess was discussed in eight cattle experimentally inoculated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and 18 spontaneously affected cattle. Blood was daily collected to measure the plasma prolidase activity and sialic acid level from the experimental cattle for 90 days after inoculation. In three out of four cattle affected with hepatic abscess, prolidase activity began to rise about 40 days after inoculation, and maintained high activity till 90 days. In the same cattle the sialic acid concentration increased from 7 to 10 days after inoculation, and gradually returned to the normal value 50 days after it. Another cow showed a similar change in early stage of experiment, but prolidase activity decreased after 70 days and sialic acid concentration maintained high level till 90 days. In two cattle, which showed scars but no abscess on autopsy, the prolidase activity increased temporarily from 40 to 55 days after inoculation. In the control cattle inoculated with an inactivated bacterial suspension, neither the sialic acid level nor the prolidase activity showed any large variation in the experimental period. Among the spontaneously affected cattle, those with a high sialic acid level revealed normal prolidase activity and those with a normal sialic acid level had high prolidase activity.  相似文献

Pseudodynamic (PSD) tests were conducted on plywood-sheathed conventional Japanese three-dimensional (3D) wooden structures. Lateral load was applied to the edge beam of specimen structures to generate eccentricity loading. Specimens were based on a combination of shear walls with openings in the loading direction and horizontal diaphragms with different shear stiffness. The principle deformation of the horizontal diaphragm was torsion for rigid diaphragms and shear deformation for flexible diaphragms. Lumped-mass time-history earthquake response analysis was conducted on the tested structures, and additional calculations were conducted on structures with different eccentricity rates. Dynamic analyses were conducted by varying the masses and the resistance of the walls in the loading direction. The simulated peak displacement response in the loading plane agreed comparatively well with the PSD test results. The maximum displacement response on changing the wall resistant ratio showed almost the same tendency as that obtained by changing the mass ratio up to an eccentricity rate of 0.3; however, the maximum displacement response increased markedly beyond an eccentricity rate of 0.4. It was proved that the lumped-mass 3D model proposed in this study was appropriate for conducting a parameter study on the 3D dynamic behavior of timber structures.  相似文献

Serum alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (alpha 1AG) was measured in 212 Landrace White pigs between birth and finishing age. The alpha 1AG level of healthy pigs five to ten months of age was 338 +/- 79 micrograms/mL, and the upper normal limit in mature swine has been established as 500 micrograms/mL. In both specific pathogen-free (SPF) and conventional pigs, the alpha 1AG level within one day of birth was 14,263 +/- 2,393 micrograms/mL, 40 times the normal adult value, but rapidly decreased to 699 +/- 186 micrograms/mL by four weeks of age. In conventional pigs, alpha 1AG began to increase after four weeks, averaged 1,428 micrograms/mL by eight weeks, but gradually decreased to adult levels by 20 weeks of age. In comparison, alpha 1AG of SPF pigs was only 800 micrograms/mL at eight weeks and decreased more rapidly to normal by 16 weeks of age. The conventional pigs had a high incidence of clinical pneumonia and specific antibodies to Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae at the age of eight weeks. As the clinical pneumonia disappeared, serum alpha 1AG level also gradually declined. In contrast, SPF pigs had little clinical illness, low alpha 1AG, and little serological evidence of microbial infection. Conventional pigs with nonrespiratory infections, encephalitis, or with hernias had increased alpha 1AG. While the very high alpha 1AG level of the neonatal pig may be due to genetic influences, increases later in life are likely in response to stimuli from its external environment. Monitoring of serum alpha 1AG in several herds aided in the recognition of disease processes and may have potential use in swine herd health management.  相似文献

Serum concentrations of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) were determined in 5 calves in the same lineage with growth retardation. They had normal appetites, activities, body proportion, and laboratory test results. Calves with growth retardation had higher serum GH concentrations and lower serum IGF-I concentrations. These findings suggested defects in the GH-IGF-1 axis, such as in the GH-receptor.  相似文献

In past years high priority was given to developing a seismic design for wood structures, including research on the response of wood structures to earthquakes. In this study a new type of portal frame with relatively large span was developed for the traditional Japanese wooden houses with large openings at the front to strengthen the structure. Stainless steel plates coated with zinc and glued with epoxy adhesives on laminated veneer lumber (LVL) members, composed of Douglas fir veneer and bonded with phenolformaldehyde resin, were used. The connection between the frame's beam and columns and between the columns and groundsills was mechanical, with bolts. The subject of this research was to analyze strength properties and failure behavior of glued LVL metal joints used as structural components and to evaluate the response of LVL portal frames under cyclic lateral loading. The results show that portal frames using glued LVL metal plates have a good multiplier for the shear walls and may be applied to traditional Japanese structures. The equivalent viscous damping provided good energy dissipation in the frames. The joints displayed good mechanical behavior during tests; moreover, the structures demonstrated high strength, stiffness, and ductility, which are necessary for a seismic design.Part of this paper was presented at the 47th annual meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Kouchi, April 1997; and at the 5th world conference on timber engineering. We describe a method for determining the sex of sika deer (Cervus nippon yesoensis) from feces collected in the field. Using a nested polymerase chain reaction (nested PCR), partial sequences of the sex determination region of the Y chromosome (SRY) gene and X zinc finger protein (ZFX) gene were amplified. In 19 individuals with sex information, the correct sex was successfully detected and sequences of target amplicons were completely matched between muscle and feces from the rectum. Among 75 fecal samples collected noninvasively in the field, 68-71 samples (90.7-94.7%) yielded successful sex determinations. Using this technique, feces collected in the field would enhance the utility of genetic analysis. As a result, instead of biomaterials, these samples can serve as new or alternative materials. Finally, it can be expected that this technique will contribute to reveal in advanced detail of the population dynamics and genetic diversity that needed to carry out effective population control and to reduce the extinction risk of sika deer.  相似文献

Embedding tests parallel and perpendicular to the grain were conducted to produce a database of embedding strength of wood for the design of dowel-type joints. Dowel diameters were 8,12,16, and 20mm. Embedding strength was evaluated by the 5% off-set method and a maximum load up to 5mm displacement according to EN383. The embedding strength parallel to the grain evaluated by the former method showed values close to those obtained with the latter method, but they showed a significant difference in tests conducted perpendicular to the grain. The embedding strength parallel to the grain was 0.9 times as large as the compressive strength parallel to the grain regardless of the evaluation method. The embedding strength perpendicular to the grain evaluated by the 5% off-set method was four times as large as the compressive strength perpendicular to the grain. When the embedding strength perpendicular to the grain was evaluated by a maximum load up to 5mm displacement according to EN383, the ratio of embedding strength perpendicular to the grain to the compressive strength perpendicular to the grain decreased as the dowel diameter increased.Part of this paper was presented at the annual meeting of the Architectural Institute of Japan 1999, Hiroshima, September 1999; the 50th annual meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Kyoto, April 2000; and the World Conference on Timber Engineering 2000, Whistler, Canada, July–August, 2000  相似文献
