The load-to-gap formation, maximum load, gap present at maximum load, and failure mode were compared among four suture patterns: Bunnell-Mayer, modified Kessler, Mason-Allen, and simple interrupted. Sixty-four goat tendons were sutured with 2-0 monofilament polypropylene in one of the patterns and distracted at 92 cm/min with an electrohydraulic materials testing system. All tests were filmed at 40 frames/sec with an intermittent pin registered camera. The load-to-gap formation was not significantly different among the Bunnell (13.3 +/- 1.5 newtons [N]), Kessler (12.8 +/- 1.3 N), and simple interrupted (11.7 +/- 1.7 N) patterns. The Mason-Allen pattern was significantly different )8.2 +/- 0.5 N). The Bunnell-Mayer had the highest mean maximum load to failure (43.0 +/- 1.6 N) followed by the modified Kessler (34.1 +/- 1.9 N). There was no difference between the Mason-Allen (22.9 +/- 1.4 N) and simple interrupted (21.2 +/- 1.4 N). All of the patterns permitted at least a 1 cm gap to form when the maximum load was applied. The Bunnell pattern caused severe constriction of the tendon and failed by suture material disruption. The modified Kessler caused some focal constriction, but the suture material pulled out before breaking and sliced the tendon in the process. The Mason-Allen and the simple interrupted patterns sliced the tendon as the suture pulled out of the tendon. 相似文献

Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) theoretically allows detailed tailoring of the dose distribution in tissue. The goal of this study was to determine if a method of dynamic IMRT could be used to deliver a high dose of radiation to a concave shaped target around the cervical spinal cord. Fifteen young adult dogs from our laboratory population were randomly divided into two groups. A radiation dose of 84 Gy in 4 Gy fractions was delivered with a conventional 4 field technique for Group A dogs, and with dynamic IMRT for Group B dogs to a "C-shaped" target close to the cervical spinal cord. Neurologic status, magnetic resonance imaging results and histopathologic changes were compared among dogs in the two groups. Group A dogs developed myelomalacia with a latency period of 65 +/- 9 days. Group B dogs did not have any histologic changes to the cervical spinal cord when euthanasia was performed 12 months after irradiation. The results demonstrate that this IMRT technique can be safely and precisely delivered to a patient in a clinical situation. 相似文献

This article describes the sonographic signs identified in three dogs with confirmed gastroduodenal linear foreign bodies. The sonographic signs included the following; an abnormal tortuous path of the descending duodenum, the presence of a hyperechoic linear structure within the duodenal lumen which was carefully followed orally to the pylorus. The presence of a mass with strong acoustic shadow within the pylorus may also be imaged. The normal intestinal layers were present in the duodenal wall. In real time, the intestinal path was followed through many "hairpin" turns, and during this process the lumen was observed for identification of a linear structure. Secondary sequelae of gastrointestinal perforation were more difficult to identify with confidence in the cases presented. 相似文献

The ability of computed tomography (CT) to distinguish malignant from nonmalignant splenic masses was evaluated in 21 dogs with 24 masses. CT scans of the abdomen were performed pre- and postintravenous contrast medium administration before splenectomy or euthanasia. Splenic masses were evaluated objectively based on Hounsfield units (HU) and volume. Subjective criteria included location within the spleen (head, body, or tail), margination, homogeneity, and attenuation compared to the remaining splenic parenchyma. Characteristics of malignant and nonmalignant masses were compared. The nonmalignant masses were divided into splenic hematomas and nodular hyperplasia for further analysis. Fourteen (58.3%) of the masses were nonmalignant; 10 (41.7%) were malignant. Malignant splenic masses had significantly lower attenuation values, measured in HU, than nonmalignant splenic masses, on both pre- and postcontrast images (P<0.05). On postcontrast images, there was a significant difference in attenuation characteristics among all three subsets of splenic masses (malignant, hematoma, hyperplasia), with nodular hyperplasia having the highest HU values (90.3), hematomas having intermediate HU values (62.5), and malignant splenic masses having the lowest HU values (40.1). A receiver operator characteristic curve of postcontrast medium HU values revealed 55 as the best threshold value to distinguish malignant from nonmalignant masses, with those less than the threshold value being malignant. Abdominal CT is a useful diagnostic imaging modality for evaluation of focal canine splenic masses, with a significant difference in imaging characteristics between malignant and nonmalignant masses. 相似文献

Intracompartmental muscle pressure, temperature and pH were measured in a group of 23 anesthetized horses in an attempt to elucidate the etiology of post-anesthetic lameness (PAL). The intramuscular pressure remained reasonably constant throughout anesthesia in most horses, while muscle temperature and pH fell. Five of the horses became lame after anesthesia. Two of these lame horses exhibited atypical trends in the physiological variables measured. The etiology of PAL is discussed in the lightof the results. 相似文献

Objective —The purpose of this study was to decribe the clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and surgical management of a llama with an ectopic ureter.
Animals or Sample Population —Nine-month-old female llama.
Results —The diagnostic evaluation included the use of computed tomography and an excretory ureterogram to confirm and identify the location of the ectopic ureter. Surgical management involved a unilateral nephrectomy.
Conclusions and Clinical Relevance —Computed tomography is a valuable asset to diagnose the presence and terminal location of an ectopic ureter in llamas, and nephrectomy appears to be a viable procedure to resolve the subsequent urinary incontinence. 相似文献

Deep-frozen, aseptically collected and processed allogeneic cancellous bone was implanted in eight dogs during the surgical repair of diaphyseal long bone fractures and in two dogs during arthrodeses. A combined allogeneic and autogeneic cancellous bone graft was used in two fractures with a segmental bone loss of more than 5 cm. Bone union occurred in five fractures and in both arthrodeses. Failure of fixation occurred in two dogs with nonunion fractures and in a third dog with an open, infected fracture. Biopsies from the fracture sites were obtained from these dogs following failure of their fracture fixation. The cancellous bone graft appeared to be in the process of normal incorporation in each case. Failure of fixation was attributed to technical or case management errors or both, in each of the three fractures that failed to achieve bony union. Frozen allogeneic cancellous bone grafts were effectively incorporated when used in the primary repair of fractures and arthrodeses. Combined autogenous and allogeneic cancellous bone grafts may be particularly useful in the repair of fractures with large segmental diaphyseal bone defects. The use of allogeneic cancellous bone grafts in nonunion fractures requires further investigation before it can be recommended. 相似文献

The brain of 17 asymptomatic normal adult beagles was evaluated with magnetic resonance imaging. Lateral ventricular size was quantified using computer algorithms. In beagles with large ventricles, contrast medium was introduced into the cerebellomedullary cistern to determine whether obstructive hydrocephalus was present. Total lateral ventricular volume ranged from 73mm3 . to 11, 726 mm3 . Based on Gd-DTPA diffusion, the csf flow pattern was considered normal neural morphology was seen using electron microscopy. Results Suggest a high incidence of clinically asymptomatic vetriculomegaly in normal adult beagles. 相似文献

Urograms were performed on 16 adult koalas to evaluate this procedure for use in the koala. Because there is only small amount of intraabdominal fat, radiographs of the abdomen of koalas lack detail. Contrast medium was excreted more slowly in the koala than in the dog and there was considerable variation in the rate of excretion between koalas. The results of this study indicated that urography was valuable technique for assessing renal anatomy, but there was considerable variation in the time for excretion of the contrast medium. 相似文献
