The aim of the present study was to evaluate the status of apoptosis in peripheral blood leukocytes of dogs with demodicosis. A total of 26 dogs suffering from demodicosis, and positive for Demodex canis mites by skin scraping, participated in the study, 13 with localized demodicosis (LD) and 13 with generalized demodicosis (GD). A further 13 clinically healthy dogs, all of whom were negative for mites upon skin scraping, were used as controls. The dogs with GD revealed significantly higher (P ≤ 0.0001) percentage of leukocytes with externalization of phosphatidylserine (PS) and depolarized mitochondrial membrane potentials (ΔΨm) as compared with the dogs with LD and healthy controls. These dogs also revealed significantly lower values (P ≤ 0.0001) of hematological parameters viz. hemoglobin, total erythrocytes count total leukocytes count, lymphocytes, monocytes and neutrophils. Significantly higher (P ≤ 0.0001) percentages of leukocytes with externalization of PS and depolarized ΔΨm were also found in dogs with LD as compared with the healthy controls. These dogs also revealed significantly lower values of Hb (P ≤ 0.0001), TEC (P=0.025), TLC (P ≤ 0.0001), lymphocytes (P=0.008), monocytes (P ≤ 0.0001) and neutrophils (P=0.03). It is concluded that premature apoptosis of PBL may be implicated in the immunosuppression of the dogs with demodicosis. 相似文献
Role of informal seed system in landrace diversification, in situ conservation on-farm and sustainability in production were investigated as a case study for rice diversity in Indian Himalayas.
The diachronic pattern of landrace occurrence revealed substantial increase, both in landrace number and frequency, in time.
The local level seed supply in Uttarakhand Himalaya revealed that about 96% seed supply originated from informal system and
a mere 4% seed supply is met from formal seed supply networks. In higher elevation ranges, beyond 1200 masl, largely landrace
cultivation is practiced and a greater landrace diversification in traditional production was observed. Substantial variations
due to environmental adaptations in niche habitats help provide important donor germplasm for crop improvement to users. Further,
the population genetic structure also indicated enough diversity being maintained on-farm. Developing pathways for strengthening
local level seed system for landrace diversification linked to sustainability in food production and conserving agro-biodiversity
has been emphasized. 相似文献
Catharanthus roseus L., a medicinally important plant was grown till maturity at varying levels of boron (0.033, 0.066, 0.33 and 3.3 mg B L?1) supply. Optimum yield was observed in plants receiving 0.33 mg B L?1. Plants receiving deficient boron showed growth reduction and visual symptoms such as chlorosis and cupping of young emerging leaves and apical tip necrosis. The number and size of the flowers, pods and seeds formed and the pollen viability of the boron deficient plants was markedly reduced. The threshold values for deficiency and toxicity were 57 and 79 μg B g?1 dry weight for vegetative growth and 60.4 and 68.9 μg B g?1 dry weight for reproductive growth, respectively, and is reported for the first time in periwinkle. An increase was observed in reducing and non-reducing sugars and in activity of acid phosphatase and ribonuclease in boron stressed plants. 相似文献
The aim of present study was to explore and document medicinal plants used for the traditional dermatological healthcare management practices by the the Tharu tribal community of Uttar Pradesh. The study was conducted during 2000–2004. Information was gathered from 230 informants residing in 46 villages in Terai region of Indo-Nepal boarder using questionnaires; oral interviews and group discussions. Total 92 medicinal plant species were cited for the preparation of 113 crude drug formulations. Voucher specimens of cited plant species were collected and identified as belonging to 82 genera and 49 families. Thirty-nine medicinal plant species were reported for the first time for dermatological healthcare problems from India. The dermatological healthcare problems managed were cut and wounds, ringworm, leprosy, eczema, scabies, leucoderma, boils, carbuncles, pimples, skin blemishes, spots, eruption, and burns etc. The most commonly and popularly used medicinal plant species for management of dermatological healthcare problems in the study area were Curcumalonga L., Azadirachtaindica A. Juss and Meliaazedarach L. It is concluded that dermatological healthcare management practice in the study area depends largely on wildly growing medicinal plant species. There is an urgent need to properly conserve the medicinal plant species growing in this area for human welfare. There is also need for further phytopharmacological studies to provide scientific explanation for the usages of 57 medicinal plant species for which to the best of our knowledge phytopharmacological literatures are not available. 相似文献
Genotypic variation and mycorrhiza play an important role in plant uptake of phosphorus (P). A pot experiment was conducted with three cereals, wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. PBW-34), rye (Secale cereale L. cv. R-308), and triticale (Triticale octoploide L. cv. DT-46), a hybrid of wheat and rye, to examine the genetic variation in the degree of arbuscular-mycorrhizal (AM) infection and its inheritability from parents (wheat and rye) to their progeny (triticale). The soil used for pot culture was low in available P (7.8 mg P kg?1soil). Inoculation with AM fungi showed a significant increase in extent of root colonization for all three cereals (average 70%) compared with their performance without AM (average 19.1%). However, among the three cereals, this increase was significantly greater in rye than in the other two crops, while wheat and triticale did not differ significantly. Mycorrhizal infection resulted in 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8-fold increases in shoot, root, and total plant dry matter, respectively, compared with the un-inoculated treatment. Among the three cereals, rye recorded maximum shoot, root, and total plant dry mass and P content with AM inoculation. The P uptake by wheat, rye, and triticale was 10%, 64%, and 35%, respectively, higher with rather than without mycorrhizal infection. Rye was most responsive to AM inoculation, with mycorrhizal dependency of 193%; here again, triticale followed wheat, with similar mycorrhizal dependency. Rye showed an increase in P utilization efficiency (PUE) without AM inoculation while the PUE of triticale was intermediate between wheat and rye. High efficiency of AM symbiosis in terms of P uptake exists in rye and most of these traits in triticale seem to be inherited from wheat rather than rye. 相似文献
The necrotrophic fungus Macrophomina phaseolina is an important pathogen of many crops, such as strawberry, maize, sorghum, potato, soybean, chickpea, and pigeon pea, and causes multiple diseases throughout the world. The microsclerotia, which are the source of primary inoculum, play an important role in the survival and spread of M. phaseolina, as well as disease initiation and development. South Asia has unique characteristics relative to countries with temperate climates, that is, warm temperature, high humidity, and reduced rainfall that influence the interaction between M. phaseolina and its hosts. This review discusses the distribution pattern, pathogen background, pathogenic and genetic variability, and the mitigation strategies applied worldwide to reduce the impact of diseases caused by M. phaseolina with a focus on dry root rot of mungbean and urdbean in South Asia. Dry root rot, caused by M. phaseolina, is an emerging disease of mungbean and urdbean in South Asia. Dry root rot research in South Asia has focused mostly on adopting disease mitigation strategies evolved in tropical to temperate climates such as cultural practices, chemical control, genetic resistance, and biological control. Although the disease is prevalent in most of South Asia, there have been very few studies on M. phaseolina and its host–parasite interaction. Therefore, additional research is required in this domain, which could result in improved understanding and management of M. phaseolina in the face of present and future climate extremes. 相似文献
Chinese chives (Allium tuberosum Rottler ex Sprengel) is a less known cultivated vegetable in western and eastern Himalayan regions of India. This species is reported here for its potential for commercialization to supplement the onion and garlic production in different parts of India especially under the present unpredictable climatic conditions. Due to multipurpose use and wider adaptability of the species future thrust is laid on collection and conservation programmes in India. 相似文献
A wide array of medicinal plants in India, primarily used by locals for health care, have found wide acceptance and adoption globally (either directly or processed) due to distinct advantages of good results, low or no side-effects and ease of access to general public. Indigenous and traditional systems of medicine in practice since historical times have shown potential (direct or indirect as immune-boosters) against many dreaded ailments including the recent global pandemic of COVID-19. With prediction of sixth mass extinction, there is worldwide concern as majority of these plants, collected from natural stands, are also facing threat of extinction. Since 1990s concerted efforts have been directed towards assessment of threat status, the basic requirement for prioritizing conservation activity to various species of plants and animals. In literature there is staggered information regarding list of threatened plants, including medicinal plants of India, compiled at either state level or national or international level. Analysis of these publications led to collation of a consolidated list of 84 species and the same is presented here. A brief account of conservation efforts in India at national level and supportive policy framework is also included. This compilation is aimed to serve as a comprehensive reference especially for beginners, researchers, conservationists, foresters, pharmaceutical professionals as well as policy makers.
Bael [Aegle marmelos (L.) Correa], a medicinally important fruit tree grown on the Indian sub-continent, contains two bio-active furanocoumarins, marmelosin and psoralen, with pharmacological properties, plus two powerful groups of natural anti-oxidants, polyphenols and tannins. The present investigation aimed to measure the levels of these nutraceuticals at various stages of fruit development [150–345 days after fruit set (DAFS)] in two promising selections of bael from the Institute, CISH B-1 and CISH B-2, using a simple high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique. Marmelosin and psoralen were extracted from 5 g of homogenised fruit mesocarp using benzene, while tannins were extracted as tannic acid with 80% (v/v) methanol in water. Polyphenol concentrations were measured spectrophotometrically at 760 nm using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. The concentrations of marmelosin declined from 1,660 and 726 µg g?1 at 150 DAFS, to 523 and 170 µg g?1 at 345 DAFS in CISH B-1 and CISH B-2, respectively, whereas psoralen concentrations decreased from 216 and 41 µg g?1 to 102 and 9 µg g?1 during the same growth period in CISH B-1 and CISH B-2, respectively. Tannic acid concentrations decreased from 1.65 and 2.02 g 100 g?1 at 150 DAFS, to 1.52 and 1.54 g 100 g?1 at 345 DAFS in CISH B-1 and CISH B-2, respectively. The concentrations of total polyphenols did not show any significant changes in either bael selection over the same growth period. The concentrations of marmelosin and psoralen in CISH B-1 were highest in October (150 DAFS), while these values peaked in November (190 DAFS) in CISH B-2. The results suggest that fruit harvested at an early stage of growth (October–November) contained higher concentrations of nutraceuticals, increasing their suitability for fruit processing and use in the phyto-pharmaceutical industries. 相似文献
