A method for estimating the metabolic rate of the human pulmonary tissues is described. Six patients with far advanced pulmonary tuberculosis showed an average rate of 12 percent of the total oxygen consumption. A method for measuring the right ventricular output with an inert gas is also outlined, and the use of this approach to minimize errors in the estimation of the tissue metabolic rate is described.  相似文献

Abstract A detailed review of proliferative kidney disease (PKD) in salmonids is presented. The introduction places the disease in a historical context. The various aspects of the disease are described from the existing literature, together with latest findings from current research. Particular emphasis is given to epidemiology, aetiology and pathology.  相似文献

Abstract. The effects of phosphate and tris buffers on the gill structure of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L, and rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), were investigated. Common carp maintained in phosphate-buffered (a combination of sodium di-hydrogen phosphate and di-sodium hydrogen phosphate at a final concentration of 0.01 m ) standard dilution water for a period of 8 days developed severe pathological changes in the gill tissues, while carp maintained in tris-buffered (0.01 m ) dilution water and trout subjected to either of these buffers showed no such changes. Histological changes in the gills of carp exposed to phosphate buffered dilution water included an extensive mucous cell proliferation on the lamellar and filarnental epithelium, and an increased infiltration of eosinophilic granular cells into the gill tissues. A moderate epithelial hyperplasia and an increase in the chloride cell densities on the gill epithelia were also noted. The implications of these findings on the widely accepted practice of the use of phosphate salts and various other buffers in pH control of experimental water are highlighted.  相似文献

Abstract. Antibiotic sensitivity patterns of 304 isolates of Aeromonas salmonicida from 229 outbreaks of furunculosis among salmon in Scotland between 1988 and 1990 were investigated. Fifty-five per cent were resistant to oxytetracycline and 37% resistant to oxolinic acid. Multiple resistance was common (52%) and 18 out of 19 antibiograms which were found in the first year recurred in the succeeding year. More than a quarter of the outbreaks were associated with two or more A. salmonicida variants distinguishable by their antibiotic sensitivity patterns. The implications of these findings in the control of furunculosis are considered.  相似文献

Resistance of Aeromonas salmonicida to amoxicillin   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Abstract. Isolates of Aeromonas salmonicida were obtained from farmed Atlantic salmon, salmo salar L., with amoxicillin minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 2·5–10 μg ml-1 Several antibiotic sensitivity patterns were found among the isolates including resistance to the four UK-licensed antibacterial drugs. Combination of clavulanic acid with amoxicillin was not effective, but all isolates were sensitive to florfenicol and to a cephalosporin, the latter having very low MICs.  相似文献
