Objective To compare cortisol responses to three corticotrophic preparations in normal dogs.
Animals Eight clinically normal dogs (four intact males, four intact females) of medium size.
Procedures Each dog received four treatments on four separate occasions in a duplicated Latin square pattern. Treatments were two adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH) preparations given intramuscularly at 2.2 U/kg, one of the ACTH preparations given intramuscularly at 1 U/kg and a synthetic polypeptide with ACTH-like activity (tetracosactrin, cosyntropin) given intravenously at 5 μg/kg. Plasma samples were taken for cortisol assay before and at 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 h after treatment.
Results Plasma cortisol concentrations were similar with the two ACTH preparations and at both dose rates. Tetracosactrin produced smaller mean peak cortisol concentrations, which tended to occur earlier than with ACTH, and smaller values for the area under the curve of plasma cortisol concentration from zero time to 4 h.
Conclusion The findings suggest that canine adrenal function can be tested adequately by giving ACTH intramuscularly at 1 U/kg and measuring plasma cortisol in samples taken at 0 and 2 h, or by giving tetracosactrin intravenously at 5 μg/kg and determining cortisol concentration at 0 and 1 h. 相似文献

The relative persistence of 2,4-D, MCPA and 2,4,5-T in some Saskatchewan soils was assessed under laboratory conditions. Under moist conditions, 2,4-D and MCPA showed half-life times of between 14 and 41 days but the MCPA half-life was usually 1 or 2 days longer. 2,4,5-T exhibited a half-life period over twice the length of the other chemicals. The half-life times were directly correlated to microbial plate counts, the larger numbers of soil microorganisms being associated with shorter residence times. Half-lives depended on soil moisture content and the best moisture levels for chemical loss appeared to be just less than field capacity. The use of 14C in 2,4-D incubation studies showed that the initial cleavage of the 2,4-D molecule was associated with the ether linkage and was not a decarboxylation. 相似文献

Viable Atlantic hagfish (Myxine glutinosa) hepatocytes were isolated from combined or separated large and small lobes and carbohydrate metabolism was studied. Cells
had low levels of glycogen (16–30 μmol·g−1), and low rates of total glucose production (TGP; 0–480 nmol·h−1·g−1 cells). Lactate flux to glucose (5.5 nmol·h−1·g−1) and CO2 (76 nmol·h−1·g−1) was lower than reported values for teleosts, with a low percentage (30%) of the lactate carbon reaching glucose. Insulin

liver mass, had a higher glycogen content and higher CO2 production from lactate compared to the small lobe. Furthermore, enzyme activities in the large lobe were greater than in
the small lobe, with the exception of glycogen phosphorylase (GPase) which exhibited smaller %a values in the large lobe.
These data indicate the presence of a hormonally-responsive carbohydrate metabolism in hagfish hepatocytes, which is qualitatively
