The effect of organic sources of nutrients and inorganic fertilizers, was studied on grain yield of lowland rice and some aspect of soil quality parameters in a field experiment at Agricultural Experimental Farm of Indian Statistical Institute, Giridih, situated at eastern plateau region of India, during consecutive years 1997–2002. Chemical fertilizers and various organic matters were applied to two rice cultivars, Sabita and Subarna. The highest mean grain yield was 3.53 t ha?1 and maximum agronomic efficiency was 60.3 % with the application of inorganic fertilizer followed by cow dung, where 3.47 t ha?1 grain yield was recorded with an agronomic efficiency of 57.5 %. Grain yield of rice recorded under organic sources of nutrients was not significantly different from that of inorganic fertilization though there was improvement in soil quality parameters under organic sources. Soil organic carbon (0.72 %), microbial biomass‐C (279.23 μg g?1 dry soil), urease activity with buffer (33.54 μg urea hydrolyzed g?1 oven‐dry soil) and non‐buffer (21.97 μg urea hydrolyzed g?1 of oven‐dry soil) methods and acid phosphatase activity (2.24 μg para‐nitrophenol released g?1 of oven‐dry soil) analysed following the harvest of the crop were highest under cow dung manure treatment; the most efficient organic source under the experiment. Mean grain yield of rice was significantly higher in Sabita cultivar over Subarna. The regression analyses among the variables have shown that there was linear relationship among soil parameters and grain yield of rice.  相似文献

Popularity of oyster mushroom is increasing for its ease of cultivation, high yield potential as well as its high nutritional value. Laboratory experimentation followed by farm trial with a typical oyster mushroom Pleurotus sajor caju revealed that the yield potential of these mushrooms can be increased significantly when grown on a lignocellulosic crop residue—rice straw supplemented with biogas residual slurry manure in 1:1 ratio as substrate. Residual slurry manures obtained from biogas plants utilising either cattle dung, poultry litter, jute caddis or municipal solid waste as substrates for biogas production were all effective in increasing the yield of Pleurotus sajor caju significantly although to different extents. Disinfection of straw and manure by means of 0.1% KMnO4 plus 2% formalin solution in hot water caused 42.6% increase in yield of Pleurotus sajor caju over control, i.e., when disinfection done with hot water. In addition to increased yield, the above treatments caused significant increase in protein content, reduction in carbohydrate and increase in essential mineral nutrients in mushroom sporophores. Thus, it is concluded from the study that supplementation of rice straw with biogas residual slurry manure has strong impact in improving the yield potential, protein and mineral nutrient contents of Pleurotus sajor caju mushroom in Indian subcontinent or similar climatic conditions.  相似文献

Amino acid (AA) levels in plasma and body growth were determined in rats (n20) fed diets with different soya bean meal levels. Free AA in plasma was determined by reversed-phase high-pressure liquid chromatography. We have used four levels of protein diets like 8%, 15%, 23% and 35% in this trial. Rats which were fed the low-protein (8%) diet with low percentage of soya bean meal were found to be growth-retarded. The body weight gain of high protein group (35%) was lower than that of the 23% groups. In the rats fed with the low-soya bean meal diet, some nonessential AA (NEAA) in plasma like asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid and serine increased, whereas the essential AA (EAA), with the exception of arginine, methionine and valine decreased. Here, plasma EAA-to-NEAA ratios were not correlated to growth and experimental diet. We hypothesize that AA metabolism is associated to changes in growth in rats on different protein intake. This study has showed the sensitivity of body mass gain, feed intake, feed conversion rate of rats to four levels of protein in the diet under controlled experimental conditions.  相似文献

The promotion of conservation agriculture (CA) for smallholders in sub-Saharan Africa is subject to ongoing scholarly and public debate regarding the evidence-base and the agenda-setting power of involved stakeholders. We undertake a political analysis of CA in Zambia that combines a qualitative case study of a flagship CA initiative with a quantitative analysis of a nationally representative dataset on agricultural practices. This analysis moves from an investigation of the knowledge politics to a study of how the political agendas of the actors involved are shaping agrarian practices. From its initial focus on CA as soil conservation and sustainable agriculture, the framing of the initiative has evolved to accommodate shifting trends in the policy arena. In tandem with the increased focus on climate adaptation, we see an increased emphasis on private sector-led modernisation. The initiative has shifted its target group from the poorest smallholders to prospective commercial farmers, and has forged connections between its farmer-to-farmer extension network and private input suppliers and service providers. The link between CA and input intensification is reflected in national statistics as a significantly higher usage of herbicides, pesticides and mineral fertilizer on fields under CA tillage compared to other fields. We argue that the environmental and participation agendas are used to buttress CA as an environmentally and socially sustainable agricultural development strategy, while the prevailing practice is the result of a common vision for a private sector-led agricultural development shared between the implementing organisation, the donor and international organisations promoting a new green revolution in Africa.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of testicular tissue lysate (TTL) on developmental competence of germinal vesicle (GV) stage porcine oocytes. Two types of TTL were prepared through repeated freeze–thaw in liquid nitrogen, one from whole testicular tissue (wTTL) and other from either of four different sections of testes, namely just beneath the tunica albuginea (TA), from the transitional area between the seminiferous cord/tubules and the mediastinum testis (TR) and from the intermediate area (parenchymal tissue origin) and CE (cauda epididymis origin). The whole or section‐wise TTL treatments were given for 44 hr during in vitro maturation (IVM). Oocyte maturation was done in either of the two media, namely defined (high‐performance basic medium for porcine oocyte maturation, commercially available) and serum containing (TCM199). After maturation, oocytes were co‐incubated with fresh spermatozoa for 6 hr and then transferred to embryo culture media. Treatment of GV stage oocytes with wTTL (1 mg/ml) increased the cleavage and morula percentage rate (69.23 ± 6.23 and 48.15 ± 6.77, respectively) than that of their control (58.33 ± 8.08 and 32.54 ± 5.53, respectively) in defined media, and in serum‐containing media, cleavage and morula percentage rate were almost equal in both treatment (54.56 ± 7.79 and 34.70 ± 6.78, respectively) and control (59.52 ± 8.21 and 38.52 ± 6.54, respectively). However, effect of wTTL was not significant. In case of section‐wise TTL supplements, TR section significantly (p < .01) improved cleavage and morula rate (58.43 ± 7.98 and 36.14 ± 6.89, respectively) followed by TA. In conclusion, present study indicates that IVM, in vitro fertilization and in vitro culture of embryo are improved in the presence of TTL, particularly its TR section. Further study is expected to reveal the principal components of TTL which may prove useful for IVM.  相似文献

The effects of conventional lime sulfide depilation and enzymatic depilation on the enamel layer of pickled lamb pelts were examined using atomic force and optical microscopy, immunohistological, and proteomic techniques. Microscopy showed that the surface structure of enzymatically depilated material was visibly less organized than conventionally processed material, implying that the enzymes used for depilation were responsible for this difference. Proteomic analyses identified an absence of collagen VI in the enamel of skins that had been processed with enzymes, in contrast to the skins that had been processed using conventional methods, which was confirmed using immunolocalization studies. It is therefore possible that the destruction of collagen VI during enzymatic depilation may cause the changes to the enamel structure observed during enzyme processing and in turn affect the quality of the finished product.  相似文献

Oxazolidine E, an aldehydic cross-linking agent, is used to impart hydrothermal stability to collagen. The purpose of this study was to investigate the exact nature of oxazolidine E induced cross-links with collagen by using synthetic peptides having sequence homology with collagen type I. Tandem mass spectrometry revealed the formation of methylol and Schiff-base adducts upon reaction of oxazolidine E with the peptides. This was confirmed by allowing the reaction to proceed under reducing conditions using cyanoborohydride. Mass spectrometry (MS)-MS analysis clearly showed interaction of tryptophan and lysine residues with oxazolidine E and demonstrated that arginine could be cross-linked with glycine in the presence of oxazolidine E through the formation of a methylene bridge. Collagen fibrils regenerated from monomers in the presence and absence of oxazolidine E were studied using atomic force microscopy to investigate morphological alterations. Regenerated fibrils showing the typical 65 nm D-banding pattern were obtained from those formed both in the presence and absence of oxazolidine E, and there was no evidence of a change in the D-periodicity of these fibrils. This indicated that oxazolidine E does not hinder collagen molecules from correctly aligning to form the quarter-stagger structure.  相似文献

Chemical, petrochemical, energy, and environment-related industries strongly require high-performance nanofiltration membranes applicable to organic solvents. To achieve high solvent permeability, filtration membranes must be as thin as possible, while retaining mechanical strength and solvent resistance. Here, we report on the preparation of ultrathin free-standing amorphous carbon membranes with Young's moduli of 90 to 170 gigapascals. The membranes can separate organic dyes at a rate three orders of magnitude greater than that of commercially available membranes. Permeation experiments revealed that the hard carbon layer has hydrophobic pores of ~1 nanometer, which allow the ultrafast viscous permeation of organic solvents through the membrane.  相似文献

We compared the effects of adding different forms of nitrogenous fertilizers on the production of CH4 in soil and on CH4 emission from rice plants, Urea and diammonium phosphate gave the highest rates of CH4 production from the soil and emission through rice plants, followed by (NH4)2SO4. NaNO3 was the least effective. The effects of micronutrients like Mo, Ni, or B were more prominent than those of Fe, Mn, Zn, V, or Co. It is concluded that CH4 emission from rice paddies is influenced by both macro- and micronutrients, through effects on both microbial methanogenesis in soil and elimination through rice plants as a consequence of the effects on plant growth.  相似文献

For increasing land use efficiency and weed suppression intercropping plays a pivotal role. A field experiment was carried out on wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori and Paol)–chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) mono- and intercropping with various weeding (0, 1, or 2 hand-weeding operations) and row spacing (20- or 30-cm) treatments in the eastern plateau region of India over consecutive five winter seasons (1997/2001). The experimental design was a randomized complete block with eighteen treatments replicated thrice. Significant (P ≤ 0.05) differences were observed in yield and economics with and without weeding treatments. Chickpea yield was significantly reduced by wheat when intercropped. However, total productivity and land use efficiency were higher under the intercropping system as compared to monocrops of either species. There was a significant reduction in weed density and biomass for the intercropping system over both monocrops. Wheat facilitated an increase in nodule number and dry weight in chickpea under intercropping over monocrops, moreover, root length of chickpea was greater when intercropped. These findings suggest that intercropping wheat and chickpea increase total productivity per unit area, improve land use efficiency and suppress weeds, a menacing pest in crop production. Considering the experimental findings, wheat–chickpea (30 cm) with two weedings may be recommended for yield advantage, higher net income, more efficient utilization of resources, and weed suppression as a biological control in eastern plateau region of India.  相似文献
