The replicating form of single-stranded DNA virus has been isolated in pure form by chromatography on columns of methylated albumin. Its buoyant density in CsCl and "melting temperature" are characteristic of a double stranded DNA structure containing 43 percent guanine-cytosine. The nearest neighbors to uridylate were compared in the RNA synthesized when replicating-form DNA and mature single-stranded DNA were employed as templates in an in vitro system. The mature DNA component of the replicating duplex does not serve as the sole source of complementary RNA. The results agree best with the assumption that both strands of the replicating form function as templates. It is important to note that this is contrary to the situation found in the intact cell where only one of the two strands appears to be transcribed into message. 相似文献

Understory vegetation may affect nitrate (NO3
−) leaching, even in coniferous forests. Our objective was to estimate the contribution of understory vegetation to nutrient
cycling, especially nitrogen, in a Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) stand. We therefore cut down and removed understory vegetation in one plot of the stand (the cutting plot) to compare nutrient
budgets in the cutting plot with those in a control plot in which understory vegetation was allowed to grow. We also examined
neutralization of the acid produced due to an increase in NO3
− leaching. A monitoring study on precipitation and soil-percolated water was carried out in both plots. When the understory
vegetation was cut down, NO3
− flux at a soil depth of 10 cm increased remarkably in summer, with values significantly higher than those in the control
plot. This resulted in an increase in proton load associated with N transformation ([H+]load). The increase in [H+]load enhanced mobilization of Ca2+, Mg2+, and SiO2 ([SiO2]mob). In addition, the correlations between [SiO2]mob and mobilization of each base cation were distinct in the cutting plot. These results indicated that the acids produced
because of N transformation were buffered not only by ion exchange but also by chemical weathering. The contribution of understory
vegetation to minimizing NO3

In females, follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) targets a FSH receptor (FSHR) expressed only on granulose cells, inducing maturation of the ovarian follicles. We hypothesized that genetic variants in the FSHR gene influence litter size by affecting the number of corpora lutea. We fine‐mapped a region of Sus Scrofa chromosome 3 that contains quantitative trait loci for corpora lutea. Polymorphisms were detected in the exons and 5′ flanking region of the porcine FSHR gene, a positional candidate for the statistically most significant of the quantitative trait loci. Finally, 248 F2 animals from a Duroc and Meishan cross were genotyped for three FSHR SNPs at positions 74, 532 and 1166, and these were correlated with the phenotypes of litter size and corpus luteum number. Three haplotypes were identified: M1 (G/G/C), M2 (C/A/T) and D (C/A/C). In the F2 population, the M1 haplotype was associated with a greater number of corpora lutea (P < 0.01) and also seemed to be associated with increased litter size, although the association was not significant (P = 0.2571). Some polymorphisms resulting in amino acid substitutions in these genes were excluded from the polymorphisms possibly responsible for the number of corpora lutea. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the present paper was to examine the genetic population structure of Buccinum tsubai in the Japan Sea. Mitochondrial 16SrRNA gene sequence analysis was performed with specimens from various stations in the Japan Sea. Mitochondrial lineages were clearly patterned geographically in four separate areas: the Hokkaido area, the Yamagata–Toyama area, the Yamato Bank area, and the San'in area. The main distribution depth range of B. tsubai is between 200 m and 1000 m isodepths, and the horizontal distance between the 200 m and 1000 m isodepth lines represents the specific spatial scale of the habitat (SSSH). These four areas were separated either by the complete discontinuity of the SSSH area or by its narrow spatial extension. Genetic distances between the main haplotypes of each area were calculated as Jukes–Cantor distances, the value of which ranged between 0.012 and 0.017. This value seemed to be unrelated to the geographic distance. There was no tendency for clustering according to depth. In future, the morphological characters of the four lineages of B. tsubai should be compared in detail in order to elucidate significant genetic differences among them. 相似文献

Recently, hyperbaric oxygen therapy with a lower pressure and oxygen concentration
(L-HBOT) than previous methods has been used for dogs in Japan; however, the influences of
L-HBOT on dogs have not been clarified. To verify the influences of L-HBOT on
physiological mechanism in dogs, we investigated blood gas parameters, glutathione
peroxidase (GPx) activity, heart rate variability, stress-related hormones and skin
conductance (SC) in 4 clinically normal beagle dogs with catheters in their carotid
arteries and jugular veins when they were quiet, after running, after receiving L-HBOT
(30% oxygen concentration, 1.3 atmospheres absolute, 30 min) or after not receiving
L-HBOT. The results showed there were no changes in blood gas parameters, heart rate
variability and catecholamine levels after L-HBOT. GPx activity was significantly higher,
and the SC and cortisol level were lower in dogs that received L-HBOT than those when they
were quiet. These results suggested that L-HBOT may have a small influence on oxygenation
dynamics, activate antioxidant enzymes such as GPx, restrain autonomic nervous activity
and control the balance between oxidation and antioxidation inside the body. 相似文献

The accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FNPP) released a large amount of radioactive substances into the environment. Furthermore, beef contaminated with radioactive cesium above the 500 Bq/kg safety standard was circulated in the food chain in 2011. Japanese consumers remain concerned about the safety of radioactively contaminated food. In our previous study, we detected a linear correlation between radioactive cesium (137Cs) activity in blood and muscle around 500 to 2500 Bq/kg in cattle. However, it was unclear whether the correlation was maintained at a lower radioactivity close to the current safety standard of 100 Bq/kg. In this study, we evaluated 17 cattle in the FNPP evacuation zone that had a 137Cs blood level less than 10 Bq/kg. The results showed a linear correlation between blood 137Cs and muscle 137Cs (Y = 28.0X, R2 = 0.590) at low radioactivity concentration, indicating that cesium radioactivity in the muscle can be estimated from blood radioactivity. This technique would be useful in detecting high‐risk cattle before they enter the market, and will contribute to food safety. 相似文献
