A 10‐year‐old castrated male miniature dachshund was presented with an abdominal mass. The dog had a history of splenectomy. Triple‐phase helical computed tomography was utilized, revealing a hepatic mass and multiple intra‐abdominal solid masses. In triple‐phase helical computed tomography the images, hepatic mass and two of four intra‐abdominal masses were heterogenous in all phases. Therefore, we diagnosed a malignant hepatic tumor and presumed intra‐abdominal metastases. The masses were surgically removed and were histologically composed of normal spleen tissues, findings which were consistent with ectopic spleen.  相似文献

We estimated the nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and magnesium (Mg) excretion factors of broiler and layer chickens in Japan, using two approaches and the latest data available. In the top‐down approach, we determined the nutrient amounts in the feeds and those in the products (i.e. the liveweight gain, eggs), and the national nutrient excretions were determined as the difference between these amounts. We then calculated the nutrient excretion factors by dividing the national excretions by the number of animals. In the bottom‐up approach, we calculated the amounts of nutrients in the feed and product per head using productivity parameters (feed conversion ratio, etc.). The differences between these amounts were considered the nutrient excretion factors. The average nutrient excretion factors of broilers (g/day/head) estimated using the top‐down and bottom‐up approaches were: N, 1.40 and 1.87; P, 0.36, 0.50; K, 0.54, 0.77; Mg, 0.13, 0.18, respectively. The excretion factors obtained by the top‐down approach can be used to calculate the national/regional excretions. The two approaches resulted in almost the same excretion factors for layers, and the average nutrient excretion factors of layers (g/day/head) estimated were: N, 2.20; P, 0.55; K, 0.68; Mg, 0.23. The estimated excretion factors for N (only) are smaller than the reported factors.  相似文献

Electroretinography (ERG) is an effective method for the diagnosis of retinal disease. In the dog, dependable ERG recording is difficult without the use of an expensive device like a Ganzfeld full-field stimulator. The International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision has defined the standard flash stimulus condition (SF) and evaluation of the retina using the b/a ratio in humans. In dogs, evaluation using the b/a ratio has not been reported, whereas the intensity of SF has been defined. In this study, we performed a convenient ERG recording method using a contact lens electrode with a built-in light source (LED-electrode), and confirmed SF as reported previously. ERG recordings were performed on 15 healthy beagle dogs under sedation. We performed bilateral ERG at 12 different intensities after 30 min dark adaptation. After 10 min light adaptation, we recorded single flash cone and flicker cone response using the SF determined in this study. In this study, SF of 3.0 cd/m(2)/sec (6,000 cd/m(2), 0.5 msec) resulted in b/a=2. The intensity for rod response that recorded only the b-wave was 0.0096 cd/m(2)/sec (80 cd/m(2), 0.12 msec). We could achieve ERG for each response easily and smoothly under sedation, and without general anesthesia. Using an LED-electrode, we could perform more quantitative and reproducible ERG examinations than with traditional methods. We propose that the b/a ratio is the most useful parameter in ERG reporting for evaluating retinal function.  相似文献

Genetic relationship among Japanese sables, Martes zibellina and the introduced Japanese martens, Martes melampus in northern Japan was revealed by analyzing a 521-524bp DNA sequence from the cytochrome b (112bp)/transfer RNA-threonine (67bp)/tRNA-proline (65bp) and control region (277-280bp) of the mitochondrial genome. Intraspecific differences in sequences of M. zibellina and M. melampus (3.8-15.0% and 1.9-16.4%, respectively) were similar to interspecific differences between these two species (5.8-16.6%). Comparison of sequence data exhibited five haplotypes of M. melampus and four haplotypes of M. zibellina, which clustered into two groups (clusters-A and-B). Cluster-A included two haplotypes of M. melampus and two haplotypes of M. zibellina, whereas cluster-B included three haplotypes of M. melampus and two haplotypes of M. zibellina. Results of this study lead three possible explanations. Firstly, past hybridization between M. zibellina and M. melampus might have occurred. Secondary, these two species might have similar heteroplasmy of mtDNA. Thirdly, these haplotypes might have come from nuclear genome. Although further intensive studies are needed to make a conclusion, detection of hybridization with the Japanese marten are occurred or not is quite important to conserve the Japanese sable.  相似文献

An 8-year-old female Shetland sheep dog had hyperproteinemia with a monoclonal gammopathy and a solid mass on the liver, which was histologically diagnosed as a plasma cell tumor. After the treatment of surgery and chemotherapy, serum protein level reduced to the normal range and the gammopathy was disappeared. These findings indicate the plasma cell tumor developed primarily from the liver.  相似文献

A three-month-old male Bull Terrier was referred to the Animal Medical Centre, Nihon University with chief complaints of subacute emesis and lethargy. Severe leukocytosis, high CRP, hypercalcemia and hypochloremia were detected. Moreover, severe calcification of gingival mucosa and abdominal skin, and abnormalities of the skeletal system were discerned. Abdominal X-ray and endoscopic examination revealed ulcer and hemorrhage on the mucosal membrane of the stomach. This might have been due to injections of high dose vitamin D at 3 and 2 weeks ago by another practioner, according to the detailed history of medication. After two months, a gastrointestinal and skin disorder disappeared, although calcification of the stomach membranes remained and abnormality of the skeletal system had worsened. Therefore, vitamin D should be carefully administrated to a puppy.  相似文献

Three canine gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) were examined. Histopathologically, the tumor mass in the jejunum (Case 1) consisted of the proliferation of epithelioid cells with abundant eosinophilic or vacuolated cytoplasm. Gangliocyte-like or multinucleated giant cells were scattered. The tumor cells exhibited neural natures mimicking human gastrointestinal autonomic nerve tumors, which were immunopositive for several neuronal markers. Another jejunal mass (Case 2) was composed by a solid proliferation of spindle-shaped cells, arranging in interlacing fascicles and occasional storiform pattern. The tumor seemed to be classified undifferentiated GISTs, that showed no apparent neural or muscular features by ultrastructural and immunohistochemical examinations. In the pyloric mass (Case 3), the spindle cells having eosinophilic processes and elongated nuclei were arranged in sheets. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells showed muscular natures as regards alpha smooth muscle actin and desmin expression.  相似文献

Three experiments were conducted to determine the effect of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) on bovine embryonic development in vitro. Human recombinant VEGF(165) was employed at 5 ng/ml in modified synthetic oviduct fluid. In Exp. 1, bovine cumulus oocyte complexes were matured with or without VEGF for 22 hr, inseminated without VEGF for 6 hr, then cultured with or without VEGF for 42 hr. The cleavage rate and the development rate to 4- to 8-cell were higher (P<0.05) in groups with VEGF during in vitro maturation (IVM, 71.4% and 59.6%), in vitro culture (IVC, 70.3% and 62.3%), and both IVM and IVC (75.9% and 67.8%) than in the group cultured thoroughly without VEGF (49.9% and 38.4%, respectively). In Exp. 2, 4- to 8-cell embryos produced in vitro without VEGF were removed from cumulus cells at 48 hr post-insemination (Pi) and cultured with or without VEGF for 144 hr. The development rates to blastocyst at 96 hr (D6), 120 hr (D7) and 144 hr (D8) were similar (P>0.05) in both groups. In Exp. 3, cumulus cells were removed from presumptive embryos produced by IVM and IVF without VEGF at 10 hr Pi. Denuded embryos were cultured with or without VEGF for 38 hr or 182 hr. The cleavage rate and the development rates to 4- to 8-cell at 48 hr Pi and to blastocyst on D6, D7 and D8 were similar (P>0.05) in all groups. These results suggest that VEGF has a beneficial effect on the initial development of bovine embryo through surrounding cumulus cells.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To develop an instrument that could be sandwiched between the hoof and shoe of horses and that would reliably measure vertical ground reaction forces and three-dimensional acceleration at the walk, trot, and canter. ANIMALS: 5 clinically sound Thoroughbreds. PROCEDURES: The recording instrument (weight, 350 g) consisted of 2 metal plates, 2 bolts, 4 load cells, and 3 accelerometers. It was mounted to the hoof with a glue-on shoe and devised to support as much load exerted by a limb as possible. The load cells and accelerometers were wired to a 16-channel transmitter, and transmitted signals were received and amplified with a telemetry receiver. RESULTS: The recording instrument could measure in real time the 4 components of the ground reaction force or their resultant force along with acceleration in 3 dimensions as horses walked, trotted, or cantered on a treadmill. Patterns of force-time curves recorded for consecutive strides were similar to each other and to those previously reported, using a force plate. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The recording instrument developed for use in the present study allowed us to record vertical ground reaction force and acceleration in 3 dimensions in horses at the walk, trot, and canter.  相似文献
