Although wilt diseases of various plants by Verticillium dahliae occur worldwide, Verticillium wilt of lettuce is relatively new and rare. In 2009, this disease appeared suddenly in commercial fields in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. To investigate the cause of the disease, we characterized each lettuce isolate for pathogenicity, mating types, and genetic characteristics and found two types of V. dahliae. A population that included at least two types of V. dahliae was the putative infection source of the disease. Effective management systems against V. dahliae isolates of different races and having different host ranges are necessary. 相似文献

Gingival mass lesions developed when cyclosporine was administered for 600 days to a female, 7-year-old, longhaired dachshund diagnosed with intractable immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA). Histopathology indicated hyperplastic suppurative gingivitis. As the anemia improved, the dosage of cyclosporine A (CsA) was markedly decreased, and the mass lesions decreased in size and disappeared, thus suggesting that the mass lesions were an adverse reaction to CsA. 相似文献

We previously reported that extremely low frequency electric fields (ELF-EFs) affect energy metabolism in stressed conditions. To further confirm this, the effect of exposure to ELF-EFs on the experimental ischemic rat was examined. The test was based on a comparison of rats treated with EF alone, ischemic surgery alone, the combination of EF with ischemic surgery, or no treatment (double sham). The EF condition used in this study was an alternating current of 50 Hz EF at 17 500 V/m intensity for 15 min per day. The exposure to EF in ischemic rats significantly decreased plasma levels of free fatty acids and triglycerides, compared to those of the no treatment or EF alone group. The plasma lactate levels of two ischemic groups peaked on experimental day-4 and gradually decreased until the end of the study. The changes in the lactate levels induced by ischemia did not show any difference between rats treated with ischemia alone or a combination of ischemia with an EF. Any changes in plasma levels of glucose and creatine phosphokinase activity were not influenced by EF treatment. These results indicate that the EF effect on glycolysis parameters, plasma lactate or glucose levels, does not appear in a highly stressed condition and that EF effects varied dependent on the condition of organism but ELF-EF used in this study have impact on lipid metabolism parameter in a hind-limb ischemic rat. A molecular epidemiological analysis was performed in 19 rabies viruses (RVs) isolated from haematophagous, frugivorous and insectivorous bats, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The authors carried out RT-PCR for amplification of the RV nucleoprotein (N) gene, and determined 1,335 nucleotide sequences of N gene by direct sequencing method. Phylogenetic analysis, which was based on the N gene of Brazilian RV isolates identified presently and previously, revealed that RVs isolated from bats were genetically divided into four lineages had a tendency to depend on the host bat species. The first lineage consisted mainly of haematophagous bat (Desmodus rotundus) isolates, including frugivorous bat (Artibeus spp.) isolates. Other three lineages consisted of insectivorous bat isolates; mainly Eptesicus spp., Molossus spp. and Nyctinomops spp. isolates, respectively. Five 2 day-old colostrum-deprived piglets were inoculated with tissue homogenates from pigs with postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome. One of the five piglets developed icterus and died 23 days post-inoculation. Histologic examination revealed acute hepatitis. Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV-2) antigen and nucleic acid were detected in hepatocytes and phagocytic cells. Ultrastructurally, hepatocytes and phagocytic cells had large numbers of cytoplasmic inclusions, which were composed of electron-dense paracrystalline arrays of small non-enveloped viral particles approximately 17 nm in diameter. Apoptotic hepatocytes were confirmed by the TUNEL method and electron microscopic examination. These findings may indicate that hepatocellular necrosis is associated with replication of PCV-2. Apoptosis of hepatocytes also contributes to the pathogenesis of hepatic lesions in this case. 相似文献

Invasion and colonization of mature apple fruit by a transformant of Erwinia amylovora tagged with bioluminescence genes from Vibrio fischeri was examined. The transformant was deposited on cut surfaces of fruit stems, wounds on the shoulders and calyces, injured fruit-bearing twigs of harvested apple fruit, and cut fruit flesh. After incubation in closed stainless steel or plastic boxes at 25°C, fruit were periodically observed with a two-dimensional luminometer. The presence of the transformant in luminous areas was confirmed by isolating it on selective media. E. amylovora, when deposited in fruit stems: (1) can invade mature as well as immature apple fruit; (2) vertically and horizontally spreads and colonizes along vascular bundles, increasing its population; (3) reaches the calyx end and the flesh just under the exocarp within 3–4 days after inoculation; (4) when deposited on cut fruit flesh, irrespective of its maturity, can easily increase its population and survive 2–4 weeks or more at 25°C; and (5) even at the time of fruit maturation, can migrate within twigs rapidly and reaches the abscission layers between fruit-bearing twigs and fruit stems. 相似文献

To investigate the early host defense function in aquatic animals, the respiratory burst activity of bottlenose dolphin neutrophils against soluble and particulate stimulants was measured by luminol-dependent chemiluminescence assays and compared with those of bovine and human. Dolphin neutrophils generated the respiratory burst in response to phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA), concanavalinA (ConA), heated-plasma (HP), and homologous-plasma opsonized zymosan except N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe (fMLP). However, the respiratory burst of dolphin neutrophils stimulated by lipopolysaccharide and Staphylococcus aureus was inferior to those of bovine and human. Furthermore, DP-OZ also induced the respiratory burst of bovine and human neutrophils. In conclusion, dolphin neutrophils responded to several soluble and particulate stimulants as well as human neutrophils, but were refractory or slightly responded to bacterial agents. 相似文献

Spontaneous cases of canine distemper virus (CDV) infection were serologically evaluated. The 192 dogs in which CDV antigen was confirmed from tonsil by immunohistological examination were 2- to 4-months old, of various breeds, and unvaccinated. The prognoses were good in 74 dogs with significantly high levels of anti-CDV passive hemolytic aggregation (PHA) titer. In the other 118 dogs with poor prognoses, anti-CDV PHA titer was not detected. Anti-CDV PHA titer had the most significant association with the prognoses of CDV infection, and could be the most reliable and useful indicator for evaluating such prognoses. 相似文献

The present study determined the cDNA and deduced amino acid sequences of ferret (Mustela putorius furo) inflammatory cytokines, interferon (IFN)-gamma, interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha. The homologies of the nucleotide sequences of IFN-gamma, IL-1beta, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha of the ferret to those from other mammalian species ranged from 64.3-92.9%, 73.0-83.9, 58.1-84.8%, 58.1-89.7% and 79.0-95.0%, respectively. As distinctive amino acid residues constituting various motifs and ligand-binding sites and cysteine residues were highly conserved in ferret inflammatory cytokine proteins, ferret cytokines may have fundamentally similar functions to those of other mammals. Phylogenetic analyses based on the deduced amino acid sequences revealed that all ferret inflammatory cytokines were more closely related to those of the Carnivora order, specifically dog and cat, than to other species. 相似文献
