Isoflavones are a class of compounds present in high amounts in soybean seeds, which can be used for prevention and treatment
of several chronic diseases. Proteins present in soybean seeds are the basis for the high nutritional value and versatility
of this leguminous species in animal and human feeding. The main goals of this work were to estimate heritabilities for isoflavone
contents in soybean seeds and the correlation between isoflavone and protein contents. Commercial variety IAC-100 (high isoflavone
and normal protein contents) and the line BARC-8 (low isoflavone and high protein contents) were crossed, and one single F1 plant derived 97 F2 seeds, which were used to obtain F3 seeds. A sample of F3 seeds from each F2 plant was used for isoflavone determination by HPLC and protein by the Kjeldahl method. Six isoflavone forms were detected:
daidzin, genistin, glycitin, malonyldaidzin, malonylgenistin and malonylglycitin. Total isoflavone contents ranged from 427.92
to 965.89 μg per gram of dry seed and the protein content ranged from 45.17 to 34.95% in BARC-8 and IAC-100, respectively.
Our results indicate that it is possible to select for high isoflavone content in early breeding generations because the broad
sense heritabilities for the contents of the various isoflavone forms were higher than 90%. In addition, high correlation
values among the contents of the individual isoflavone forms were observed (between 0.80 and 0.98). However, negative correlation
values were obtained between isoflavone and protein contents, ranging from −0.51 to −0.37 for the different isoflavone forms.
The correlation value of −0.47 between total isoflavone and protein contents confirmed the negative correlation between these
two parameters, as reported by other authors.

Fucan is a term used to denominate a type of polysaccharide which contains substantial percentages of l-fucose and sulfate ester groups. We obtained five heterofucans from Sargassum filipendula by proteolytic digestion followed by sequential acetone precipitation. These heterofucans are composed mainly of fucose, glucose, glucuronic acid, galactose and sulfate. These fucans did not show anticoagulant activity in PT and aPTT tests. Their antioxidant activity was evaluated using the follow tests; total antioxidant capacity, scavenging hydroxyl and superoxide radicals, reducing power and ferrous ion [Fe(II)] chelating. All heterofucans displayed considerable activity, especially SF-1.0v which showed the most significant antioxidant potential with 90.7 ascorbic acid equivalents in a total antioxidant capacity test and similar activity when compared with vitamin C in a reducing power assay. The fucan antiproliferative activity was performed with HeLa, PC3 and HepG2 cells using MTT test. In all tested conditions the heterofucans exhibited a dose-dependent effect. The strongest inhibition was observed in HeLa cells, where SF-1.0 and SF-1.5 exhibited considerable activity with an IC50 value of 15.69 and 13.83 μM, respectively. These results clearly indicate the beneficial effect of S. filipendula polysaccharides as antiproliferative and antioxidant. Further purification steps and additional studies on structural features as well as in vivo experiments are needed to test the viability of their use as therapeutic agents. 相似文献

A health evaluation in a colony of captive collared peccaries (Tayassu tajacu) in the Eastern Amazon

This study pretends to determine baseline data on the health and mortality of a colony of captive collared peccaries in the Eastern Amazon (Belém, State of Pará, Brazil) during a 65-months survey. Thirty-nine out of 166 animals (23.5%) died and were examined post-mortem. Monthly mortality averaged 1.2%. The highest mortality rate was observed in newborns (74.4%). Abandonment by the mother and aggression were responsible for 24.1% and 13.8% of the total newborn deaths, respectively. Most frequent causes of non-neonatal death were food poisoning (50.0%) due to an episode of accidental bitter cassava leaves ingestion and traumatism due to aggressions between animals (10.0%). Results from serology for different infectious diseases showed that 4.9% (2/41) collared peccaries had antibodies against Brucella spp. and 9.8% (4/41) animals had antibodies to two different Leptospira spp. serovars, butembo and autumnalis. This is the first survey of morbidity and mortality in captive collared peccaries in the Amazon region. 相似文献
