A 9-year-old, male North African leopard (Panhtera pardus) presented with mandibular brachygnathism and lingually displaced mandibular canine teeth causing a large left oronasal fistula, rhinitis and nasal discharge, and a right orocutaneous fistula. Surgical closure of the left oronasal defect, bilateral mandibular canine tooth crown reduction, and root canal therapy resulted in a positive clinical outcome. A small recurrent left oronasal fistula and the right orocutaneous fistula healed spontaneously after alleviating the occlusal contact with the mandibular canine teeth. At 12-months postoperatively, clinical signs of oral and dental disease had resolved.  相似文献

The molecular composition of humic acids (HA) extracted from compost at increasing maturity stages was determined by off-line TMAH-thermochemolysis-GC-MS, in combination with solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and infrared (IR) spectroscopies. While spectroscopy measurements followed the bulk changes, thermochemolysis provided a detailed molecular variation of HA composition. Both thermochemolysis and spectroscopy indicated that polysaccharides, alkyl, cyclic, and aromatic compounds were the predominant components of HA, the stable fraction of compost. NMR dipolar dephasing (DD) experiments confirmed that HA extracts contained lignin in lower amount than its oxidized degradation products. The progressive compost maturity was reflected in HA extracts by a decrease of carbohydrate content and a selective preservation of hydrophobic alkyl molecules, such as medium- and long-chain fatty acids, aliphatic alcohols, linear hydrocarbons, and plant polyester derivatives, like long-chain alkyl dicarboxylic acids, and ω-hydroxyacids. Spectroscopy results showed a concomitant entrapment in HA of biolabile compounds, such as peptidic moieties. The wide range of identified lipid components and plant biomarkers may represent useful tools to trace origin, quality, and transformation of amended compost in soil ecosystems.  相似文献

The aim of this experimental work was to evaluate the effect of inulin addition on the rheological properties of common wheat doughs and bread quality. Three commercial fructan products of different number average degree of polymerisation (DPn) were used (DPn = 10 for inulin ST; DPn = 23 for inulin HP and HP-gel). Inulin contents from 2.5 to 7.5% on dry matter (wheat flour plus inulin) were used. Dough rheological properties were investigated using farinograph and dynamic rheological measurements. Upon addition of dietary fibre (DF), significant increase in mixing time and stability, and decrease in water absorption were recorded. Inulin ST exerted greater effect on water absorption than HP products.  相似文献

The concentration of Al, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, V and Zn was measured in the aquatic bryophyte Rhynchostegium riparioides after a 4-week transplantation at 83 stations in seven main watercourses and three smaller tributaries of the basin of the River Bacchiglione (NE Italy). The study, carried out in 9 months, aimed at establishing a database for statistical analyses to define a novel index of water quality, specifically calibrated for moss bags, and suitable for bio-monitoring purposes where autochthonous bryophytes are not available. The background level was estimated for each element, the ratio between sample and background concentration was adopted as measure of environmental alteration and a five-class interpretation scale was defined. The 73.8% of measured concentrations reflected a condition of naturality, 16.6% suspect of alteration, 7.6% sure alteration, 1.6% severe alteration and <0.5% extreme alteration. The condition of global environmental alteration (all contaminants) at each station was also defined. Forty-four stations presented absence or suspect of alteration, 39 sure alteration for one or more elements. Bivariate and multivariate analyses revealed (1) highly significant correlations (p?<?0.001) between the concentrations of Co–Mn, Sb–Zn, and Fe–V, depending on both natural and human factors, (2) chemical patterns leading to galvanic industries, metallurgy or urban sewages, in some case with a geographical distribution and (3) a gradient of environmental alteration from the Pre-Alps to the lowland. Coloured maps indicate both point sources and widespread environmental alteration, highlighting not only industrial–urban areas but also some apparently undisturbed sites.  相似文献

The optimal combination of yield and quality of hemp fibres from field grown crops is around flowering. Therefore prediction of flowering time would support in planning production and optimization of the cultivar choice for different agro-ecological zones. In the current paper the validation of a recently published model (Amaducci et al., 2008a) is carried out for four varieties across a wide range of sites and thus of air temperature-photoperiod combinations. The model was evaluated by comparing its output to field observations of the duration between emergence and 50% flowering. The model output and observed times from emergence to 50% of flowering generally corresponded well, but some discrepancies were apparent. The biggest discrepancies between estimates and actual data were observed at extreme latitudes. The level of accuracy of the model predictions is satisfactory for strategic decision regarding sowing and harvesting time and cultivar choice, but tactical decisions (e.g. time of harvest based on flowering time) cannot be accurately supported.  相似文献

The marine brown alga Halidrys siliquosa is known to produce compounds with antifouling activity against several marine bacteria. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of organic extracts obtained from the marine brown alga H. siliquosa against a focused panel of clinically relevant human pathogens commonly associated with biofilm-related infections. The partially fractionated methanolic extract obtained from H. siliquosa collected along the shores of Co. Donegal; Ireland; displayed antimicrobial activity against bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus; Streptococcus; Enterococcus; Pseudomonas; Stenotrophomonas; and Chromobacterium with MIC and MBC values ranging from 0.0391 to 5 mg/mL. Biofilms of S. aureus MRSA were found to be susceptible to the algal methanolic extract with MBEC values ranging from 1.25 mg/mL to 5 mg/mL respectively. Confocal laser scanning microscopy using LIVE/DEAD staining confirmed the antimicrobial nature of the antibiofilm activity observed using the MBEC assay. A bioassay-guided fractionation method was developed yielding 10 active fractions from which to perform purification and structural elucidation of clinically-relevant antibiofilm compounds.  相似文献

This study is the first report of combining ability and heterosis for important vitamins and antioxidant plant pigments in cauliflower. Five CMS lines were crossed with 8 male fertile lines in line × tester design to develop 40 hybrids. These hybrids along with parental lines were evaluated for different vitamins and anti-oxidant pigments to reveal extent of heterosis and genetic combining ability. The CMS line Ogu12A was good general combiner (gca effect) and Ogu16A was poor general combiner for most of the important traits under study. Most of the heterotic hybrid combinations were associated high specific combing ability (sca effect). However, gca effect was also important in developing quality heterotic hybrids. The proportions of $\sigma_{\text{gca}}^{ 2} /\sigma_{\text{sca}}^{2}$ were less than unity in all the cases indicating the role of non-additive gene action for most of the traits. Highest number of heterotic hybrids in positive direction was recorded for ascorbic acid content followed by anthocyanin content. The accumulated average heterosis of the 40 hybrids was in positive direction for ascorbic acid, anthocyanin and lycopene concentration whereas it was in negative direction for carotenoids and chlorophyll pigments. Very high heterosis for ascorbic acid, anthocyanin and carotenoids in cauliflower indicated the scope for development of F1 hybrids with higher concentration of these vitamins and anti-oxidant pigments. It is possible to develop heterotic hybrids for different vitamins and anti-oxidant plant pigments through selection of parental lines based on desirable genetic combing ability.  相似文献

Growth scales give a standardized definition of crop development and increase the understanding among researchers and growers. In this research we defined a growth scale for the phasic development of common buckwheat that was mainly based on a sequence of easily recognizable changes occurring on the first and the terminal clusters of inflorescences formed on the main stem. Observations were carried out on plants grown in two years throughout spring. In an attempt to uniform the duration of phasic development across sowing dates, the length of phases and sub-phases was calculated in days and in thermal time using nine combinations of cardinal temperatures. A sequence of stages and various patterns of coordinated development were maintained throughout all sowings and years. Specifically, (1) the first inflorescence became visible after three true leaves had fully expanded on the main stem; (2) flowering reached the terminal inflorescence cluster before full-sized green fruits became visible in the first inflorescence, and (3) fruit ripening in the whole plant ended within two weeks of the end of ripening in the oldest inflorescence. Plant size was increased with the delay of sowing, and the length of the growth cycle was by approximately 400°Cd longer when plants experienced a day length longer than 15?h. This changed the correspondence between flowering and ripening stages, so that full flowering was associated with the development of green fruits in the first inflorescence when the cycle was short, but with their development in the terminal cluster when it was long. Trends in grain yield did not correspond to those in plant size and phase length. We are confident that this growth scale will be a valuable tool for following the progress of buckwheat development and to predict growth patterns and harvest time in response to temperature and photoperiod.  相似文献
