An outbreak of fatal hemorrhagic pneumonia with 70~90% morbidity and 50% mortality occurred in an animal shelter in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Clinically, the affected dogs showed severe respiratory distress within 48 h after arriving in the shelter. The dead were found mainly with nasal bleeding and hematemesis. At necropsy, hemothorax and hemorrhagic pneumonia along with severe pulmonary consolidation was observed, though histopathological analysis showed mainly hemorrhagic bronchopneumonia. Lymphoid depletion was inconsistently seen in the spleen, tonsil and bronchial lymph node. Gram-positive colonies were shown in blood vessels or parenchyma of cerebrum, lung, liver, spleen, and kidney. Also, Streptococcus (S.) equi subsp. zooepidemicus was isolated from the various organs in which the bacterium was microscopically and histologically detected. In addition, approximately 0.9 Kb specific amplicon, antiphagocytic factor H binding protein, was amplified in the bacterial isolates. In this study, we reported an outbreak of canine hemorrhagic bronchopneumonia caused by S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus in an animal shelter in Yangju, Korea.  相似文献

Increased inflammation is the main pathophysiology of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Inflammation affects lymphatic vessel function that contributes to the removal of immune cells or macromolecules. Dysfunctional lymphatic vessels with decreased permeability are present in NAFLD. High-fat diet (HFD) is known to increase body weight, food intake, and inflammation in the liver. Previously, it was reported that Ecklonia cava extracts (ECE) decreased food intake or weight gain, and low-calorie diet and weight loss is known as a treatment for NAFLD. In this study, the effects of ECE and dieckol (DK)—which is one component of ECE that decreases inflammation and increases lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic drainage by controlling lymphatic permeability in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice—on weight gain and food intake were investigated. ECE and DK decreased weight gain and food intake in the HFD-fed mice. NAFLD activities such as steatosis, lobular inflammation, and ballooning were increased by HFD and attenuated by ECE and DK. The expression of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α and infiltration of M1 macrophages were increased by HFD, and they were decreased by ECE or DK. The signaling pathways of lymphangiogenesis, VEGFR-3, PI3K/pAKT, and pERK were decreased by HFD, and they were restored by either ECE or DK. The expression of VE-cadherin (which represents lymphatic junctional function) was increased by HFD, although it was restored by either ECE or DK. In conclusion, ECE and DK attenuated NAFLD by decreasing weight gain and food intake, decreasing inflammation, and increasing lymphangiogenesis, as well as modulating lymphatic vessel permeability.  相似文献

Milk vetch dwarf virus (MDV) is an important member of the genus Nanovirus and is transmitted by the aphid Aphis craccivora. MDV has multiple single-stranded DNA genome components, each approximately 1 kb, and two or three alpha-satellite molecules. It mainly infects plants of the legume family Fabaceae. Recently, papaya (Carica papaya) collected in Yesan, South Korea, displaying symptoms of leaf yellowing and dwarfism, was identified as a new host for MDV. To examine the geographical distribution of MDV, papaya samples with symptoms were harvested in South Korea, Vietnam, and Taiwan in August 2018, along with tomato and pepper samples grown in adjacent fields in Vietnam. The results revealed the presence of MDV not only in papaya but also in pepper and tomato. This MDV infection in members of the Solanaceae family was confirmed by Southern blot hybridization performed using a PCR product of segment S as a probe. Based on sequence analysis of three MDV components (M, S, and C3), we verified the presence of three different isolates of MDV in these three countries and homology between sequences of isolates from papaya and from members of the Solanaceae from Vietnam. Taken together, our results clearly demonstrate MDV infection in Vietnam and Taiwan for the first time and confirm that MDV can infect economically important pepper and tomato.  相似文献

This study was carried out to clarify the fauna of the tribe Archipini, which belongs to the family Tortricidae in North-east China. In the present study, fifty-four species of the tribe were recognized and enumerated. Based on the present study,two species, Archips viola Falkovitsh and Choristoneura evanidana (Kennel), are reported for the first time from China. Also five species, Archips dichotomus Falkovitsh, Archips similis (Butler), Argyrotaenia angustilineata (Walsingham), Choristoneura longicellana (Walsingham), and Gnorismoneura orientis (Filipjev), are newly recorded from Northeast China. The free radical scavenging activity of water soluble natural antioxidants from Sargassum thunbergii, which is a brown marine alga, was evaluated by examining the radical scavenging activities of the extracts of hydrolyzates from S. thunbergii on hydroxyl, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and alkyl radicals. A spin-trapping electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer was employed, and the results were compared for their ESR signal intensity. S. thunbergii was enzymatically hydrolyzed to prepare water soluble extracts by five carbohydrases (AMG, Celluclast, Termamyl, Ultraflo, and Viscozyme) and proteases (Alcalase, Flavorzyme, Kojizyme, Neutrase, and Protamex). The scavenging activity of the radicals increased with increased concentrations of the extracts. The scavenging results were higher for hydroxyl and alkyl radicals and lower for DPPH radical as compared with vitamin C as a reference. The hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity of the extracts was also investigated; the Alcalase extract showed the highest scavenging activity among the extracts prepared with the five proteases and five carbohydrates. In addition, the DNA damage was determined by using the comet assay with alkaline electrophoresis and was quantified by measuring the tail length. The preventive effect of Alcalase extract from S. thunbergii against DNA damage increased with increments of concentration of the enzymatic extracts.  相似文献

Four kinds of phlorotannins having antioxidant activity were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of Ecklonia stolonifera ethanolic extract. The structures of the phlorotannins were determined on the basis of spectroscopic evidence, including 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance. The isolated phlorotannins showed potential radical-scavenging activities against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and suppressed the intracellular reactive oxygen species in tacrine-treated HepG2 cells. Among them, eckol and 2-phloroeckol showed hepatoprotective activity in tacrine-treated HepG2 cells; however, phlorofucofuroeckol B and 6,6'-bieckol did not show the activity, even though having high antioxidant activity. Both eckol and 2-phloroeckol inhibited the expression of Fas-mediated cell-death proteins, including tBid, caspase-3, and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase, and suppressed the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria to cytosol in a dose-dependent manner in tacrine-treated HepG2 cells. These results suggest that eckol and 2-phloroeckol are the principal hepatoprotective constituents of the ethyl acetate fraction of E. stolonifera ethanolic extract.  相似文献

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which promotes serious health problems, is related to the increase in the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome and pyroptosis by a high-fat diet (HFD). Whether dieckol (DK), a component of Ecklonia cava extracts (ECE), attenuated NAFLD in an HFD-induced NAFLD animal model was evaluated. The expression of high mobility group box 1/Toll-like receptor 4/nuclear factor-κB, which initiated the NLRP3 inflammasome, was increased in the liver of HFD-fed animals and significantly decreased with ECE or DK administration. The expression of NLRP3/ASC/caspase-1, which are components of the NLRP3 inflammasome, and the number of pyroptotic cells were increased by HFD and decreased with ECE or DK administration. The accumulation of triglycerides and free fatty acids in the liver was increased by HFD and decreased with ECE or DK administration. The histological NAFLD score was increased by HFD and decreased with ECE or DK administration. The expression of lipogenic genes (FASN, SREBP-2, PPARγ, and FABP4) increased and that of lipolytic genes (PPARα, CPT1A, ATGL, and HSL) was decreased by HFD and attenuated with ECE or DK administration. In conclusion, ECE or DK attenuated NAFLD by decreasing the NLRP3 inflammasome and pyroptosis.  相似文献
