The current study is based on the screening of novel insecticides from new sources that have not being exploited hitherto.
The major objectives of this research work were to extract marine molluscs, Lambis lambis, Trochus radiatus and Chicoreus ramosus, from Tuticorin coastal waters using different solvents to test their insecticidal properties and partially purify the active
components. The ethyl acetate extracts of L. lambis and T. radiatus showed 100% mortality of Sitophilus oryzae, at a concentration of 200 μg ml−1. The LC50 values for ethyl acetate extracts of L. lambis, T. radiatus and C. ramosus were found to be 67.08, 348.86 and 571.42 μg ml−1, respectively. With regard to bacterial metabolites, at a concentration of 200 μg ml−1 the ethyl acetate extract of A3 was able to elicit an activity of 40% and that of strain A1 – 20%. The LC50 values of the bacterial metabolites were also investigated. Upon chromatographic separation of active ethyl acetate extracts
of T. radiatus, the 100% methanol column-purified fraction was found to have an activity of 30% at a concentration of 10 μg against S. oryzae. The purity of the partially pure active compound was observed to be 72.78% on analysis with high pressure thin layer chromatography. 相似文献

A field experiment was conducted to study the varietal variability of productivity in sorghum under rainfed conditions. Six varieties viz., TNS 24, TNS 27, CO 20, CO 19, CO 24 and K3 were utilized in this study. Among these varieties TNS 24, CO 19 and TNS 27 were found to be tolerant to drought situations while K 3, CO 20 and CO 24 were susceptible. The classification was mainly based on the yield data. Highest leaf area was observed in tolerant varieties, The reduction in leaf area at the harvest stage was also minimal (6.8%) in the tolerant varieties. LAD and CGR also showed higher values in the tolerant varieties. The dry matter accumulation was higher in the tolerant varieties. The yield improvement in the tolerant genotypes is mainly due to the increased dry matter accumulation while harvest index is not related to yield in the varieties studied. 相似文献

Wood polymer nanocomposites (WPNC) based on nano-SiO2 were prepared by impregnation of styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN), SiO2 nanoparticles modified with γ-trimethoxy silyl propyl methacrylate (MSMA), and nanoclay into wood. The structure of modified SiO2 nanoparticles and WPNC was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). XRD analysis showed the delaminated structure of SAN/SiO2/clay-treated wood composites. The synergistic effect of nano-SiO2 and nanoclay was investigated. Thermal stability of SiO2 nanoparticles decreased after modification, while that of wood treated with SAN, SiO2, and nanoclay improved. Morphological characteristics were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties, water uptake (%), dimensional stability, hardness, and flammability were found to improve due to incorporation of SiO2 and nanoclay into wood polymer composites. Simul wood (Salmalia malabarica) was chemically modified by treatment with styrene–acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), and organically modified nanoclay. The physical properties of wood polymer composites (WPC) were improved due to the addition of GMA and nanoclay. XRD analysis indicated a decrease in crystallinity in WPC. FTIR study confirmed the presence of clay in WPC. The presence of clay in cell lumen and cell wall was evidenced by SEM study. Wood polymer nanocomposites (WPNCs) based on simul wood (Bombex ceiba, L.) were prepared by impregnation of styrene acrylonitrile copolymer, γ-methacryloyloxy trimethyl silane-modified TiO2, SiO2 nanoparticles and nanoclay intercalating mixture through vacuum impregnation. The impact of nanofillers on the physical properties, flame retardancy, water resistance, anti-swelling efficiency and biodegradability of the resultant WPNCs was investigated. Remarkable enhancement in wood properties such as flame retardancy, water resistance and anti-swelling efficiency was achieved with the treatment. The results showed that all the properties were maximum for wood samples treated with SAN/TiO2 (0.5 %)/SiO2 (0.5 %)/nanoclay (0.5 %).
