Fusarium rot caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melonis, causes significant postharvest losses in rockmelon crops. Although latent infection is often present in the field, symptoms of the disease may not appear until fruit maturity. The susceptibility of different-aged rockmelon fruit cv. “Colorado” was determined by inoculating fruit at different stages of development with a spore suspension of F. oxysporum f. sp. melonis. Disease symptoms appeared first and were more severe in older fruit compared to younger fruit. Disease symptoms on fruit 35 DAA (Days After Anthesis) and 42 DAA appeared within 3 days of inoculation and rapidly covered the fruit within 5 days. In contrast, disease symptoms on fruit 7 DAA appeared 6 days after inoculation and grew slowly. Extraction of antifungal compounds without involving acid hydrolysis from 7 DAA fruit rind did not show antifungal activity on TLC plates. However, hydrolysis of the ethyl acetate fraction resulted in a strong fungal inhibitory zone on agar plates against colonies of F. oxysporum f. sp. melonis. Separation of the hydrolysed crude extracts on TLC plates indicated the presence of two distinct antifungal zones with Rf 0.36 and 0.13 in young fruit 7, 14 and 21 DAA. The area of fungal inhibition of compound Rf 0.36 was greater than that of Rf 0.13 on the TLC plate. Extracts from mature fruit of 35 and 42 DAA did not have detectable levels of antifungal compounds. The decrease in the susceptibility of rockmelon fruit during maturity may be correlated to a decrease in the antifungal compounds in the fruit with maturity.  相似文献

Teasle gourd [Momordica subangulata Blume subsp. renigera (G. Don) de Wilde, 2n = 56] exhibits morphological characters found in both M. dioica (2n = 28) and M. cochinchinensis (2n = 28). Morphological analysis of M. subangulata subsp. renigera suggests an allopolyploid origin. We present evidence elucidating the genomic relationships between M. dioica, M. cochinchinensis and M. subangulata subsp. renigera. A triploid M. dioica × M. subangulata subsp. renigera hybrid had an average of 12.76 bivalents, 13.84 univalents and 0.88 trivalents at metaphase I, while the M. cochinchinensis × M. subangulata subsp. renigera hybrid had an average of 13.08 bivalents, 12.96 univalents and 0.96 trivalents. F1 hybrids of the two diploid species (M. dioica × M. cochinchinensis) showed an average of 9.12 bivalents and 9.76 univalents, suggesting that the genomes of these species are only partially homologous. A higher number of bivalents in the triploid hybrids suggests that M. subangulata subsp. renigera is a segmental allopolyploid of M. dioica and M. cochinchinensis and that its genomes have diverged from the parental genomes.  相似文献

Red rice (Oryza sativa L.), a weedy relative of cultivated rice (O. sativa), is a troublesome weed in rice in the southern United States. It is also very problematic in other world regions where rice is grown. There are many types of red rice. Some have white pericarp. In this paper, the term ‘red rice’ will be used to refer to the weedy types that occur in this region of the southern USA. Because of the great diversity in morphology and phenology of red rice populations in the USA, we hypothesized that these have differential tolerance to glyphosate. Red rice is subjected to selection pressure by glyphosate, which is the principal herbicide used in glyphosate-resistant soybean planted after rice. Two hundred-fifteen red rice accessions were collected in Arkansas, USA between 2002 and 2003 and evaluated for glyphosate tolerance between 2003 and 2006. The commercial dose of glyphosate controlled red rice accessions 81-100% regardless of application timing, by 30 d after treatment. The number of survivors that produced seeds and the seeds produced per survivor differed between accessions. Application of the full dose at the tillering stage was more effective than at the 3- to 4-leaf stages. At half the field dose, 40 to 54% of survivors produced seed, with germination capacity of 30-100%. The lowest dose of glyphosate, 225 g a.e. ha−1, resulted in the widest range of control ratings from 30 to 100%. The red rice accessions differentiated into six tolerance categories. A tolerance map was generated and will be used in educating growers about the proper use of glyphosate for red rice management.  相似文献

Increasing crop productivity is one of the prime goals of crop breeding research. Rice grain yield is a complex quantitative trait governed by polygenes. Although several QTLs governing grain yield traits have been reported and limited attempts have been made to map QTLs for grain yield parameters in Basmati rice. A population from the cross Sonasal and Pusa Basmati 1121 comprising 352 RILs was generated through the single seed descent method. A total of 12 QTLs governing yield and yield-related traits were mapped on six chromosomes, namely, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9, of which five QTLs were novel. We identified a novel and robust epistatic QTL (qPH1.1 and qPL1.1) governing plant height and panicle length, flanked by the markers RM5336-RM1 on chromosome 1. The gene encoding brassinosteroid insensitive 1-associated receptor kinase 1 precursor is the putative candidate gene underlying this epistatic QTL. Another novel QTL, qNT3.1, governing tiller number was bracketed to a region of .77 Mb between the markers RM15247 and RM15281 on chromosome 3. Of the 57 annotated gene models, Os03g0437600 encoding alpha/beta-fold hydrolase, a homologous to AtKai2 is a putative candidate gene underlying the novel QTL qNT3.1. The other QTLs such as qDFF1.1 governing days to 50% flowering co-localizes with the gene Ghd7, QTL for plant height qPH1.2 co-localizes with the gene sd1, the QTLs for panicle length co-localizes with FUWA and DEP2, the QTL for tiller number co-localizes with OsRLCK57 and QTLs for thousand-grain weight co-localize with the major gene GS3. The QTLs identified in the current study can be effectively used in marker-assisted selection for developing Basmati rice varieties with a higher yield.  相似文献

In this study an attempt has been made to find a solution to the problem of disposal of distillery effluents through anaerobic followed by aerobic treatment. Accordingly, experimental studies were planned and carried out in two phases. The first phase experimentation was conducted to study the performance of Semicontinuous Fixed Film Anaerobic Reactors (SCFFAR) which simulate Downflow Stationary Fixed Film anaerobic reactors (DSFF) for partial treatment of distillery waste. Second phase experimentation included studies on degradation of anaerobically treated effluent employing semicontinuous aerobic reactors with sludge recycle. The results indicated that the distillery waste should be diluted to bring down the COD to about 50 000 mg L?1 before the same is treated by stationery fixed film anaerobic reactors and this dilution can be achieved by circulating the treated effluent. Further the reduction of COD beyond 9000 to 10 000 mg L?1 by anaerobic treatment appears to be uneconomical. Results of second phase of the study show that the aerobic degradation of anaerobically treated effluent can achieve significant COD reduction (approx. 67%). However, reduction of COD of final effluent below 500 mg L?1 appears to be very difficult. The settling characteristics of the sludge produced in aerobic study depended on the BSRT value and improved with increase in BSRT.  相似文献

Lincomycin 10 mg kg?1, IV in buffalo calves followed two-compartment open model with high distribution rate constant α (11.2?±?0.42 h?1) and K 12/K 21 ratio (4.40?±?0.10). Distribution half-life was 0.06?±?0.01 h and AUC was 41.6?±?1.73 μg mL?1 h. Large Vdarea (1.15?±?0.03 L kg?1) indicated good distribution of lincomycin in various body fluids and tissues. Peak plasma level of lincomycin (71.8?±?1.83 μg mL?1) was observed at 1 min as expected by IV route. The elimination half-life and MRT of lincomycin were short (3.30?±?0.08 and 4.32?±?0.11 h, respectively). Lincomycin 10 mg kg?1 IV at 12-h interval would be sufficient to maintain T?>?MIC above 60 % for bacteria with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) values ≤1.6 μg mL?1. Favourable pharmacokinetic profile in buffalo calves and a convenient dosing interval suggest that lincomycin may be an appropriate antibacterial in buffalo species for gram-positive and anaerobic bacterial pathogens susceptible to lincomycin.  相似文献

Abstract

Imbalanced and indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers has been adversely influencing the quality of soil, environment, biodiversity and nutrient status in soil. Conjoint application of bio-inoculants (BI) with organic or inorganic sources of nutrients tweaks nutrient synchrony in soil and improves plant nutrition. With this backdrop an experiment was conducted at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi during 2016–2018. The objectives were to identify the suitable combinations of BI-mediated nutrient sources for higher productivity and profitability in pigeon pea–wheat cropping system (PWCS). The nine pigeon pea treatments; four sole applications viz., recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF), vermicompost (VC), farm yard manure (FYM), leaf compost (LC) and four conjoint applications viz., RDF?+?BI, VC?+?BI, FYM?+?BI and LC?+?BI and one control were replicated thrice under randomized block design (RBD). However, in succeeding wheat, each of the treatments applied to pigeon pea was further allocated to two levels (50% and 100%) in factorial RBD. Findings exhibit that FYM?+?BI could result into higher equivalent-system grain productivity (10.4 and 10.8?t?ha?1 during 1st and 2nd year, respectively) of PWCS. However, profitability parameters of PWCS were higher with the RDF?+?BI. Uptake of nutrients (NPK) was significantly higher with FYM?+?BI in pigeon pea and RDF?+?BI in wheat. Nutrient harvest index (NHI) did not vary significantly in both the crops. Conclusively, bio-inoculation is more productive and beneficial in general, while, over the various combinations, recommendation of FYM?+?BI combination could be more productive and sustainable.  相似文献
