Effects of organic acids (oxalic, acetic, and citric) on adsorption characteristics of Cadmium (Cd) on soil clay minerals (kaolinite, goethite, and bayerite) were studied under different concentrations and different pH values. Although the types of organic acids and minerals were different, the effects of the organic acids on the adsorption of Cd on the minerals were similar, i.e., the amount of adsorbed Cd with an initial solution pH of 5.0 and initial Cd concentration of 35 mg L^-1 increased with increasing concentration of the organic acid in solution at lower concentrations, and decreased at higher concentrations. The percentage of Cd adsorbed on the minerals in the presence of the organic acids increased considerably with increasing pH of the solution. Meanwhile, different Cd adsorption in the presence of the organic acids, due to different properties on both organic acids and clay minerals, on kaolinite, goethite, or bayerite for different pHs or organic acid concentrations was found. 相似文献
The effects of wheel traffic on soil surface hydraulic properties, and consequent effects on erosion, following planting of vegetable crops in beds have not been widely studied. This paper describes two trials to quantify how wheel tracks influence infiltration and erosion rates, and assesses the value of cultivating wheel tracks for reducing erosion. The trials were carried out under natural rainfall, on Dystric Nitosols with clay loam texture and strong, stable structure. Net rates of erosion from onion (Allium cepa L.) beds with cultivated or uncultivated inter-bed wheel tracks were measured with erosion pins and repeat topographic surveys of sediment trapped in silt fences. Infiltration rates in onion beds, cultivated and uncultivated wheel tracks, and changes in infiltration rates through winter, spring, and summer, were measured using the double-ring, ponded-water method.
Differences in erosion rate were only measured in the second trial in which erosion rate from the uncultivated treatment was 21 Mg ha−1, compared to 1 Mg ha−1 for the cultivated treatment. Erosion occurred through mobilisation of soil along the edge and base of the wheel tracks, with no evidence of erosion of the onion beds. Most of the eroded soil comprised soil aggregates, with 75% between 0.25 and 4 mm in diameter, suggesting soil was transported in runoff along the wheel tracks as stable aggregates. Uncultivated wheel tracks had very low infiltration rates compared to onion beds and cultivated wheel tracks. The differences in infiltration rates between cultivated and uncultivated wheel tracks were consistent in both trials, with minor differences due to rainfall patterns and the implements used to cultivate wheel tracks. There were clear trends in infiltration rates through time, with rates in the uncultivated wheel tracks increasing during the growing season from 1.4×10−7 to 2.1×10−5 ms−1 and in onion beds from 1.1×10−4 to 2.5×10−4 ms−1, while rates in the cultivated wheel tracks decreased from 1.7×10−2 to 2.4×10−3 ms−1. The major increase of infiltration rate in uncultivated wheel tracks occurred after October when the soil surface began to dry out, and frequent wetting and drying cycles caused the compacted surface soil to crack. Most erosion occurred in the winter/early spring period when storm frequency and rainfall intensity was highest, and infiltration rates in the uncultivated wheel tracks lowest. Cultivating wheel tracks is a simple and effective practice to increase infiltration of rainfall and reduce erosion rates on clay-rich, strongly structured soils. 相似文献
Fixed ammonium contents and NH4^ fixation capacities of some representative cultivated solis collected from 16 provinces of China were studied. Results showed that the contents of fixed ammonium in soils ranged from 35 to 573 mg N kg^-1,with an average of 198mg Nkg^-1.The content of fixed ammonium correlated very significantly with mica content for tropical and subtropical soils, whereas this was not the case for soils in the temperate zone.At the end of K-exhausting experiment the fixed ammonium content increased in most soils studied. However,it decreased in smom temperate soils.Generally, fixation of added NH4^ could not be found either before or after K-exhausting experiment for highly weathered soils, including tropical soils and soils derived from granite-gneiss or Quaternary red clays in the subtropic zone, while for most soils in the Yangtze River dalta the NH4^ fixation capacity was rather high and increased significantly in the K-exhausted soils. 相似文献
Interrill erosion depends on soil detachment and sediment transport, which are affected by seal formation and runoff. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of wetting rate (WR) on runoff and soil erosion in semi-arid Israeli soils varying in clay content and exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP). Six soils, ranging in clay content between 90 and 680 g kg−1 and ESP between 0.9 and 20, were packed in 0.2 m×0.4 m trays, wetted at 3 WRs (2, 8, or 64 mm h−1), and thereafter exposed to 60 mm of distilled water rain in a laboratory rainfall simulator. Under non-sodic conditions (ESP<2), highest runoff and erosion were obtained from loam (220 g kg−1 clay and 350 g kg−1 silt) which was ascribed to its high susceptibility to seal formation, runoff and detachability. Runoff and erosion increased with an increase in ESP and WR. The effect of WR on runoff and erosion was negligible in loamy sand and generally increased with an increase in clay content. In clay soils (>600 g kg−1 clay), WR played a greater role in determining runoff and erosion compared with raindrop impact. A linear type dependence existed between erosion and runoff for soils with ESP<5 or when slow WR was used. For high ESP soils, or when medium or fast WR were used, an exponential type relation described better the dependence of erosion on runoff. It is suggested that for sodic soils or for conditions favoring aggregate slaking, runoff level and its velocity were high enough to initiate rill erosion that supplemented raindrop detachment in markedly increasing erosion.
