Glue barriers reduce earwig damage on apricots in north-western Italy

The European earwig, Forficula auricularia L. (Dermaptera: Forficulidae), is a well-known species that is cosmopolitan and present throughout Europe. Due to its omnivorous feeding behaviour, this species can act as a generalist predator, preying on several top fruit pests, but also as a pest causing shallow gouges or holes in stone and soft fruits such as apricots, strawberries, raspberries or blackberries. In Piedmont (NW Italy), significant fruit damage has been observed lately in apricot orchards where earwigs fed on ripening fruits and made a considerable part of the produce unmarketable. In this study, we sampled earwig populations in three apricot orchards in Piedmont and tested the effectiveness of glue barriers applied to the tree trunks in reducing both earwig density in the canopy and fruit damage. The arboreal glues Rampastop® and Vebicolla® were tested both in the field and laboratory trials. Glue barriers demonstrated to be effective control measures, significantly reducing earwig abundance in the canopy and fruit damage. Rampastop® gave better results on old trees with a very rough and cracked bark, since in that case Vebicolla® could not perfectly bond with the trunk.  相似文献   

Predictive value of a model of the flight activity of Adoxophyes orana (Lep.: Tortricidae)

In 1992–2002, the flight activity of Adoxophyes orana (AO) was investigated using pheromone traps placed in apple orchards in five localities in Central and Eastern Bohemia. The cumulative catches of AO were plotted against time expressed as the sum of day-degrees (D°) above 8°C and approximated by a Richards’ function. This model was constructed using the numbers of AO males caught by pheromone traps from 1992–1998 at all the localities. The flight of the overwintering generation of AO began when 200 D° had accumulated, culminated at 300 D° and ceased at 430 D°, irrespective of locality. The high predictive ability of the model was validated using data from one locality for 2001–2003. It was impossible to construct a similar model to predict the flight activity of the summer generation because its dependence on D° varied greatly between localities and years.  相似文献

通过对3批142个油松优树半同胞子代进行测定,选出36个优良家系,树高、胸径、材积平均增产15.4%、26.9%、73.3%,遗传增益分别为8.2%、8.5%、22.2%;再从优良家系内选择263个优良单株,树高、胸径、材积平均增产27.2%、41.1%、125.9%,预期遗传增益分别为13.3%、11.7%、37.2%;用选出的优良单株营建高世代无性系种子园,并提出了高世代种子园建立技术和种子高产关键技术.  相似文献

Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) is one of the most important stand-forming tree species in Hungary and its importance is increasing in many countries. The main aim of the discussed new selection programme is to identify black locust clones with good performance and good form for setting up clonal seed orchards. As a result of selection programme 16 new black locust clones have been improved. In spring 2002 a black locust seed orchard was established with the newly selected clones. About 40% of the plants can be considered to belong to the height growth rate class 1 and 2. Hungary was the first country where micropropagated black locust planting material was used for seed orchard establishment.  相似文献

Success rate of supplemental mass pollination in a seed orchard of Pinus sylvestris L.

Two experiments (Expt 1, Expt 2) with supplemental mass pollination (SMP) were carried out in a seed orchard of Pinus sylvestris L. in order to assess the biological and operational prospects for SMP. The success of the SMP was studied by means of allozyme markers. In Expt 1 the pollen mix was applied very close to each female strobilus. The estimated success rates for treatments varied between 66% and 84%. When supplemental pollination was done at peak receptivity, one single pollination was enough to obtain high success rates. In Expt 2 the pollen mix was dusted over clusters of receptive strobili on whole‐trees. The estimated success rates for treatments varied between 10% and 23%. The success rates improved when the trees were pollinated on more than one occasion per day during the receptive period. The overall conclusion is that SMP is practical for P. sylvestris seed orchards.  相似文献   

Toxicity of indoxacarb to two species of predacious mites and a predacious mirid

Indoxacarb is a novel oxadiazine pro-insecticide that has no toxic effects on the adults, fecundity and eclosion of Amblyseius fallacis (Garman), a predacious phytoseiid, or Agistemus fleschneri Summers, a predacious stigmaeid. It is toxic to Hyaliodes vitripennis (Say), a predacious mirid that has been reported from several Quebec orchards where IPM programs are used. The LC50 for this mirid is about one-half of the recommended dose (0.054 g AI litre(-1)) of indoxacarb for apple orchards. Following an application, the intoxicated mirids remained motionless as their prolegs and posterior had paralyzed. Twenty-four hours later, they appeared smaller, shrunken and severely desiccated.  相似文献
