The thermal and mechanical analgesic profile of buprenorphine at a dose rate of 1.5 micrograms/kg i.v. was investigated in five sheep. This dose produced significant analgesia for 40 min against the thermal stimulus, but no mechanical antinociception. A higher dose rate of 12 micrograms/kg also failed to produce antinociception to a mechanical stimulus. In addition, the effect of the drug (6 micrograms/kg) on respiratory gas tensions was determined and no significant changes were observed.  相似文献

Biochar has potentials for soil fertility improvement, climate change mitigation and environmental reclamation, and charred biomass can be deliberately incorporated into soil for long-term carbon stabilization and soil amendment. Many different methods have been used for biochar production ranging from laboratory to industrial scales. However, in countryside of developing countries,biomass is generally used for cooking but not charred. Biochar production techniques at farmer scale have remained poorly developed.We developed and tested biochar production kilns for farmers with a dimension of 50.8 cm × 38.1 cm(height × diameter), using three different setups for optimizing oxygen(O2) limitation and syngas circulation: airtight with no syngas circulation(Model I),semi-airtight with external syngas circulation(Model II) and semi-airtight with internal syngas circulation(Model III). A comparative assessment of these biochar production kiln models was made considering biochar pyrolysis time, fuel to biomass ratio, biochar to feedstock ratio and thermogravimetric index(TGI). Among the models, the best quality biochar(TGI = 0.15) was obtained from Model I kiln taking the longest time for pyrolysis(12.5 h) and the highest amount of fuel wood(1.22 kg kg-1biomass). Model III kiln produced comparatively good quality biochar(TGI = 0.11), but with less fuel wood requirement(0.33 kg kg-1biomass) and shorter pyrolysis time(8.5 h). We also tested Model III kiln in a three times larger size under two situations(steel kiln and pit kiln). The biochar to feedstock ratio(0.38) and quality(TGI = 0.14) increased slightly for the larger kilns. Quality of biochar was found to be mainly related to pyrolysis time. The costs for the biochar stove and pit kiln were US$ 65–77, while it was US$ 154 for the large size steel kiln. Model III kiln can potentially be used for both cooking and biochar production at farmer scale.  相似文献

Objective— To describe a minimally invasive technique for preparation of teaser rams by needle-assisted ligation through the tail of the epididymis.
Study Design— Experimental study.
Animals— Mature rams (n=6), estrus-induced ewes (2).
Methods— After local anesthesia, epididymis ligation was achieved by restraining the testis distally within the scrotal sac and passing suture through a hypodermic needle inserted between tail of epididymis and distal pole of testis, caudomedial to craniolateral through the scrotum. The needle was removed leaving the suture in place and the testis pushed up dorsally, then the needle was reinserted through the original holes and the suture passed back through the needle, which was withdrawn. This resulted in the suture forming a complete loop around the epididymis. The suture ends were tied ligating the epididymis. Semen was evaluated pre- and postligation. Testes were removed after 30 days for gross and histologic examination.
Results— Epididymis ligation was accomplished without postoperative complications. Three weeks after the epididymis ligation, no motile and live spermatozoa were found in ejaculates. From 5 to 28 days after epididymis ligation, attraction to ewes and libido was unchanged and similar to 14 days before ligation.
Conclusions— This novel minimally invasive technique is a simple, alternative method for preparation of teaser rams.
Clinical Relevance— This method is simply performed, without skin wounds, and minimal postoperative care is needed. The technique should be readily adaptable to other species.  相似文献

There are numerous studies conducted on biochar for its carbon (C) sequestration potential;however,there are limited studies available on the behavior of salt-affected soils related to biochar application.Therefore,more studies are needed to elucidate the mechanisms through which biochar affects saline soil properties.In this study,biochars were produced from solid waste at pyrolysis temperatures of 300,500,and 700?C (BC300,BC500,and BC700,respectively)and applied to a saline soil to evaluate their impacts on soil carbon dioxide (CO2) efflux,C sequestration,and soil quality.A soil incubation experiment lasting for 107 d was conducted.The results showed that soil CO2 efflux rate,cumulative CO2 emission,active organic C (AOC),and organic matter (OM)significantly increased with BC300 application to a greater extent than those with BC500 and BC700 as compared to those in the no-biochar control (CK).However,soil C non-lability did not significantly increase in the treatments with biochars,except BC700,as compared to that in CK.Besides improving the soil quality by increasing the soil AOC and OM,BC300 showed positive impacts in terms of increasing CO2 emission from the saline soil,while BC500 and BC700 showed greater potentials of sequestering C in the saline soil by increasing the soil non-labile C fraction.The recalcitrance index (R50) values of BC500 and BC700 were>0.8,indicating their high stability in the saline soil.It could be concluded that biochars pyrolyzed at high temperatures (?500?C)could be suitable in terms of C sequestration,while biochars pyrolyzed at low temperatures (?300?C) could be suitable for improving saline soil quality.  相似文献

Abstract. Lymphocystis disease is reported from seven fish species in 48 of Wisconsin's 72 counties (67%). It was previously known from only two fish species in five counties. The record from northern pike, Esox Indus L. is new. Five other host records are new for Wisconsin. A relationship between the disease distribution in new waters and walleye, Stizostedion vitreum (Mitchill), stocking sources is noted. Histologlcal observations from black crappie, Pomoxis nigromaculatus (Lesueur) and walleye are similar to previously published accounts. Events in hyaline capsule degeneration are described for the first time. In Wisconsin, the disease was most commonly observed in the spring, particularly in walleye, but was consistently evident throughout the rest of the year.  相似文献

During a routine survey which was conducted in three successive years, 1990–1992, in southeastern Hungary, it was found that Meloidogyne spp. are common on a wide host range in fields, glasshouses and polythene tunnels, especially in sandy soil between the Danube and Tisza rivers. Meloidogyne incognita, M. incognita acrita and M. arenaria were recorded to be the most important in glasshouses (at Hódmezóvásárhely, Csongrád, Mindszent, Fábiánsebestyén, Kistelek, Balástya, Szatymaz, Bordány, Mórahalom, Szeged, Apátfalva and Szegvár); M. hapla was found to be the most important species in the field (at Hódmezóvásárhely, Makó, Szeged, Szatymaz, Szentes, Domaszék, Mórahalom, Asotthalom, Bordány, Ulés, Zsombó, Balástya, Kistelek, Csanytelek, Forráskút and Rúzsa). M. thamesi was detected in certain cultivated plants and weed hosts (at Kistelek, Balástya, Rúzsa, and Gyula). Besides the cultivated plants, 41 weed plants, belonging to 34 genera in 22 families, were also found to be hosts for root-knot nematodes in fields and glasshouses. Meloidogyne naasi was found for the first time in Hungary on some grass hosts.  相似文献

The combined use of plants and bacteria is a promising approach for the remediation of soil contaminated with organic pollutants. Different biotic and abiotic factors can affect the survival and activity of the applied bacteria and consequently plant growth and phytoremediation efficiency. The effect of inoculum density on the abundance and expression of alkane-degrading genes in the rhizosphere of plant vegetated in hydrocarbon-contaminated soil has been rarely observed. In this study, an alkane-degrading bacterium (Pantoea sp. strain BTRH79), at different inoculum densities (105 to 108 cells cm-3 soil), was inoculated to ryegrass (Lolium perenne) vegetated in diesel-contaminated soil to find the optimum inoculum density needed for its efficient colonization and hydrocarbon degradation activity. Bacterial inoculation improved plant growth and hydrocarbon degradation. Maximum plant growth and hydrocarbon degradation wwereobserved with the inoculum having the highest cell density (108 cells cm-3 soil). Moreover, the inoculum with higher cell density exhibited more abundance and expression of alkane hydroxylase gene, CYP153. This study suggests that the inoculum density is one of the main factors that can affect bacterial colonization and activity during phytoremediation.  相似文献

Nitrification inhibitors can effectively decrease nitrification rates and nitrous oxide(N2O)emission while increasing crop yield under certain conditions.However,there is no information available on the effects of nitrification inhibitors and tillage practices on N2O emissions from maize cropping in Iran.To study how tillage practices and nitrapyrin(a nitrification inhibitor)affect N2O emission,a split factorial experiment using a completely randomized block design with three replications was carried out in Northeast Iran,which has a cold semiarid climate.Two main plots were created with conventional tillage and minimum tillage levels,and two nitrogen(N)fertilizer(urea)management systems(with and without nitrapyrin application)were created as subplots.Tillage level did not have any significant effect on soil ammonium(NH4+)and nitrate(NO3-)concentrations,cumulative amount and yield-scaled N2O emission,and aboveground biomass of maize,whereas nitrapyrin application showed significant effect.Nitrapyrin application significantly reduced the cumulative amount of N2O emission by 41%and 32%in conventional tillage and minimum tillage practices,respectively.A reduction in soil NO3-concentration by nitrapyrin was also observed.The average yield-scaled N2O emission was 13.6 g N2O-N kg-1N uptake in both tillage systems without nitrapyrin application and was significantly reduced to 7.9 and 8.2 g N2O-N kg-1N uptake upon the application of nitrapyrin in minimum tillage and conventional tillage practices,respectively.Additionally,nitrapyrin application increased maize biomass yield by 4%and 13%in the minimum tillage and conventional tillage systems,respectively.Our results indicate that nitrapyrin has a potential role in reducing N2O emission from agricultural systems where urea fertilizers are broadcasted,which is common in Iran due to the practice of traditional farming.  相似文献
