The response of nursery seedlings and wildings of oriental beech(Fagus orientalis Lipsky) to canopy gap size was studied ina climax beech forest in northern Iran with respect to seedlingsurvival, shoot growth and vitality. These parameters were followedfor 2 years after planting in gaps of 50, 200 and 600 m2, aswell as in the open field. Foliage coloration was used as acriterion for vitality. The survival rate of nursery seedlingsand wildings dropped rapidly with increasing gap size from 84per cent in 50-m2 canopy openings to  相似文献

We estimated above- and belowground biomass and net primary production (NPP) of a 73-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forest stand in the Belgian Campine region. Total biomass for the stand was 176 Mg ha(-1), of which 74.4% was found in stems. The root system contained 12.6% of total biomass, most of it in coarse roots (> 5 mm). Fine roots (< 5 mm) comprised only about 1.7% of total biomass, and more than 50% of fine root biomass was retrieved in the litter layer and the upper 15 cm of the mineral soil. The ratio of belowground biomass to aboveground biomass was 0.14, which is lower than that of other Scots pine forests and other coniferous forests. Between 1995 and 2001, mean annual NPP was 11.2 Mg ha(-1) year(-1), of which 68.7% was allocated to aboveground compartments. Stems, needles and cones made relatively high contributions to total NPP compared with branches. However, branch NPP was possibly underestimated because litterfall of big branches was neglected. The proportion of total NPP in belowground components was 31.3%. Coarse root NPP (2% of total) was low compared with its biomass. Fine root NPP was 3.3 Mg ha(-1) year(-1), representing about 29.5% of total NPP; however, the estimate of fine root NPP is much more uncertain than NPP of aboveground compartments. The ratio NPP/GPP (gross primary production) was 0.32, which was low compared with other coniferous forests.  相似文献

In a forest in Flanders (Belgium), situated in a region of intensive livestock production, comparable stands of Corsican pine and silver birch were studied for (1) NH4 + and NO3 - concentrations in throughfall water and soil solution and (2) depositions and leaching of NH4 + and NO3 - to groundwater. In each stand, throughfall collectors and porous cup lysimeters at three depths (0.1m, 0.5m and 1m) were installed in three replicated sets. Throughfall concentrations of ammonium and nitrate were significantly different for both species as well as soil solution concentrations of nitrate at all depths. Under pine, nitrate concentrations of the soil solution at 1m depth clearly exceeded the Belgian critical level for drinking water (50 mg.1-1). Under birch, this level was only sporadically exceeded. During the sampling period, the depositions of NH4 +-N and NO3 --N reached respectively 21.6 kg/ha and 6.3 kg/ha under birch and 81.3 and 15.2 kg/ha under Corsican pine. Nitrate-N leaching under silver birch amounted 25.4 kg/ha whereas 56.4 kg/ha was measured under Corsican pine.  相似文献

Introduction

To increase our understanding of litterfall dynamics in mixed-species forests, seasonal and annual variations in litterfall mass and nutrient concentrations were assessed for a 60-year-old spontaneously developed forest dominated by silver birch (Betula pendula Roth), pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.), and northern red oak (Quercus rubra L.) in Belgium.  相似文献
