A tsetse and bovine trypanosomosis survey was conducted during 1998 and 1999 in the Matutuine District of Maputo Province (Mozambique). A total of 59 Glossina brevipalpis and 17 Glossina austeni were captured throughout the district. Survey results suggest that Glossina brevipalpis is mainly concentrated in dense vegetation along the Maputo River and in the wetlands east of the river. G. austeni, on the other hand, was captured mainly in dense thickets in drier areas. Both tsetse species are suspected to be vectors of bovine trypanosomosis. Bovine trypanosomosis (75,5% Trypanosoma congolense) was diagnosed in 53 animals (13,9%) from seven sampling sites distributed throughout the district. The prevalence of cattle with anti-trypanosomal antibodies was high (29,9%).The incidence of trypanosomal infections in sentinel cattle was also high. The widespread distribution of bovine trypanosomosis and the high prevalence of infection are likely to have a significant impact on cattle production and, hence, the cattle restocking exercise in the district. 相似文献

Summary Differences between isogenic uptake hydrogenase (HUP) mutants of Bradyrhizobium japonicum in terms of nodule efficiency, N2 fixation and N incorporation into various plant parts were studied in a monoxenic greenhouse experiment in order to confirm previous results with soybeans and beans inoculated with various HUP+ and HUP– strains. The HUP+ revertant PJ17-1 of a HUP– mutant (PJ17) of strain USDA DES 122 showed a completely restored relative efficiency (100% versus 78±2% for the HUP– mutant), higher nodule efficiency (N2 fixed per g nodules), higher ureide-N transport rates, higher N contents in pods and higher N harvest indices. All these observations confirm previous experiments with HUP+ and HUP– strains. 相似文献

The changes in the soil nitrate concentration were studied during 2 years in a “montado” ecosystem, in the South of Portugal.
Total rainfall, air and soil temperature and soil water content under and outside Quercus rotundifolia canopy were also evaluated. A cluster analysis was carried out using climatic and microclimatic parameters in order to maximize
the intraclass similarity and minimize the interclass similarity. It was used the k-Means Clustering Method. Several cluster
models were developed using k values ranging between 2 and 5. Thereafter, in each cluster, the data were divided according
to their origin (soil under canopy and open areas, and from surface and deep layers). Multiple regression models were tested
for each cluster, to assess the relationship between soil nitrate concentration and a set of climatic and microclimatic parameters
and the results were compared with models assessed without clustering. The models achieved with data grouped in result of
clustering analysis showed better performance than the models achieved without clustering, mostly for data from open areas
soils. When temperature is low and/or water presents excess or scarcity levels, the data from soils in undercanopy areas,
give rise to models with worst performance than models from open soil areas data. The results obtained for undercanopy area
suggest that nitrification process in soil under Quercus rotundifolia trees influence is more complex than for open areas, and subject to other relevant factors beyond water and temperature. 相似文献

Paraoxonase‐1 (PON1) is an enzyme found in serum and follicular fluid that protects cell membrane and circulating lipids against oxidative damage. The aims of this study were to measure the direct effects of recombinant PON1 (rPON1) on bovine oocyte maturation at the molecular level (gene expression) and to measure the carry‐over effects of PON1 on pre‐implantation embryo development in vitro. COCs were submitted to IVM with the addition of 0.0, 0.02, 0.04 and 0.08 mg ml?1 of rPON1, corresponding to an average PON1 arylesterase enzyme activity of 2.2 ± 0.4, 15.5 ± 1.5, 30.2 ± 3.0 and 57.9 ± 5.0 U ml?1, respectively. The results indicated that addition of rPON1 during IVM improved embryo development in a dose‐dependent manner as D7 embryo development was 22.2%, 29.4%, 32.2% and 37.0% for the treatment groups, respectively (p = 0.02). In conclusion, addition of PON1 enzyme during IVM exerted dose‐related positive effects on embryo development rates to blastocysts. 相似文献

A large collection of cowpea rhizobia strains was obtained from soil samples collected from either a semi-arid or a tropical
rain forest area located at about the same latitude in the north-eastern region of Brazil and evaluated for their intrinsic
antibiotic resistance to eight commercial antibiotics. The aim of this study was to correlate antibiotic resistance of native
rhizobia strains to edaphic-climatic factors as a way to establish suitable inoculants for specific areas. A large diversity
regarding intrinsic antibiotic resistance was found, and 17 clusters were identified as varying from sensitive to gradually
resistant up to 500 μg·ml–1 of the antibiotics tested. Clustering analysis did not show any pattern related to the geographic region where isolates have
been obtained. On the other hand, an increase in the antibiotic-resistant rhizobia population was associated with an increase
in soil P and Al contents. lsolates which were sensitive to spectinomycin, ampicillin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol and tetracycline
were present at higher rates in soils devoid of Al. Rhizobia bacteria producing mucus type I (fluid and capable of spreading
over the solid media) were found preferentially in soil with Al concentrations up to 36 mg·kg–1, diminishing quickly at higher levels.

Abstract Diel changes in littoral fish assemblage were studied in four reservoirs in the Czech Republic (Central Europe). The sampling was performed by beach seining in an unstructured littoral zone. Perch, Perca fluviatilis L., roach, Rutilus rutilus (L.), bream, Abramis brama (L.), carp, Cyprinus carpio L., ruffe, Gymnocephalus cernua (L.), pikeperch, Sander lucioperca (L.), eel, Anguilla anguilla (L.) and A. brama × R. rutilus hybrids exhibited higher densities at night. Only bleak, Alburnus alburnus (L.) exhibited higher densities during the day. The number of species was higher in night hauls, and mean body size of roach and bleak was also higher at night. Diel changes in fish densities resulted in the change in species composition between day and night. The study has implication for the sampling design to assess littoral fish assemblages using beach seine netting and recommends night sampling for a representative assessment or sampling during both diel periods for a robust assessment. 相似文献
