The effect of reduced pig growth rate postweaning as a result of restricted floor space and feeder trough space on subsequent growth to slaughter was investigated in a wean-to-finish system. Crossbred pigs (n = 1,728) were used in a randomized block design with a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments: 1) floor space (high [0.630 m2/pig] vs. low floor space [0.315 m2/pig]), 2) feeder trough space (unrestricted [4 cm/pig] vs. restricted feeder trough space [2 cm/pig]), and 3) period of imposing floor- and feeder-trough-space treatments (12 vs. 14 wk postweaning). Growth performance was measured from weaning (5.5 +/- 0.01 kg of BW; 17 d of age) to slaughter (the end of wk 25 postweaning). From the end of the treatment period to the end of wk 25, pigs on all treatments had the same floor and feeder trough space. Pigs with low floor space had lower (P < 0.01) ADG, ADFI, and gain:feed ratio than those with high floor space, and were therefore lighter (P < 0.05) at the end of the postweaning treatment period. Pigs given the restricted feeder trough space had lower (P < 0.05) ADFI, similar (P > 0.05) ADG, and higher (P < 0.01) gain:feed ratio than those with unrestricted feeder trough space during the treatment period. Pigs in the 14-wk treatment period had higher (P < 0.01) ADG and ADFI, but lower gain:feed than those in the 12-wk treatment during that period. In the subsequent period, from the end of treatment to wk 25, there was an interaction (P < 0.05) between floor space and treatment period; the difference in ADG and gain:feed for pigs on low vs. high floor space was greater for the 14-wk than the 12-wk treatment period. However, low-floor-space pigs tended (P = 0.06) to be lighter than high-floor-space pigs at the end of wk 25 postweaning. Neither feeder trough space nor treatment period affected pig growth performance during the period from the end of treatment to wk 25. Carcass backfat and longissimus depths at the end of wk 25 were not influenced (P > 0.05) by treatment. In summary, pigs with restricted growth due to low floor space until either 12 or 14 wk postweaning had increased growth and feed efficiency in the subsequent period to wk 25 postweaning, with only a slight effect on BW and no effect on carcass measures.  相似文献

Nitrous oxide (N2O) release by Streptomyces nitrosporeus in a sandy loam soil as affected by pO2, pH and amount of easily decomposable organic carbon In model experiments under defined conditions (80%WHC, 300 μg nitrate-N g?1 dry soil, 30°C) the effect of pO2, pH and addition of easily decomposable organic matter on nitrous oxide production by Streptomyces nitrosporeus DSM 40023 from a sterilized sandy loam soil was studied. This streptomycete reduces nitrate to N2O but not to N2. The strain was inoculated into a sterilized sandy loam soil (pH 6), enriched with nitrate and incubated at approximately 20 and 10% (v/v) O2 for 26 days. In another series of experiments the pH was increased with NaOH-solution up to pH 7 or the soil was enriched with pulverized leaves (1%) to increase mineralization activity and the demand for electron acceptors. In the headspace the concentration of O2, CO2 and N2O was analysed by GC. The soil concentration of NO3?, NO2? and NH4+ was measured as well as the pH value. The population density was determined by the plate count method. At a decreased oxygen concentration of about 2.5% (v/v) in the headspace, S. nitrosporeus increased the release of N2O. In the experiments with an initial oxygen concentration of approximately 20% (v/v) this threshold of about 2.5% /(v/v) O2 was hardly reached and consequently only little N2O was produced. Apparently, S. nitrosporeus uses O2 in preference to nitrate, which is characteristical of nitrate respiration. A pH increase from pH 6 to 7 reduced the lag phase significantly and increased the rate of oxygen consumption, CO2 release and N2O production. Maximum nitrous oxide production was reached after 13 days. The result indicated that streptomycetes like S. nitrosporeus may use nitrate alternativly to O2 to maintain energy conservation (ATP synthesis) with the release of N2O. So far, nothing is known about the role of streptomycetes in contributing to N2O production in natural soils.  相似文献

Dynamin 1 is a neuron-specific guanosine triphosphatase thought to be critically required for the fission reaction of synaptic vesicle endocytosis. Unexpectedly, mice lacking dynamin 1 were able to form functional synapses, even though their postnatal viability was limited. However, during spontaneous network activity, branched, tubular plasma membrane invaginations accumulated, capped by clathrin-coated pits, in synapses of dynamin 1-knockout mice. Synaptic vesicle endocytosis was severely impaired during strong exogenous stimulation but resumed efficiently when the stimulus was terminated. Thus, dynamin 1-independent mechanisms can support limited synaptic vesicle endocytosis, but dynamin 1 is needed during high levels of neuronal activity.  相似文献

Feeding increased levels of dietary vitamin E can inhibit lipid oxidation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of levels of dietary alpha-tocopherol acetate (VE) and feeding duration on meat quality and lipid oxidation. Eighty-one pigs were allocated to 1 of 3 diets containing 40, 200, or 400 IU of VE/kg of feed, and each diet group was divided into 3 feeding periods (3, 6, or 9 wk). Carcass characteristics and meat quality were evaluated. Oxidative stability of fresh and cooked pork patties and pork chops was determined after chilled or frozen storage. Increasing dietary concentrations of VE did not affect any growth performance parameter. Drip loss, however, decreased (P < 0.05) with increased dietary VE levels. Moreover, an increased duration of VE feeding improved (P < 0.05) pH and drip loss. Less lipid oxidation (P < 0.05) was detected in fresh ground pork from pigs fed greater concentrations of VE after 4 d of storage. A greater (P < 0.05) resistance to oxidation in cooked ground pork was observed in pigs fed 200 or 400 IU of VE/kg at 2 and 6 d of storage. Fresh and cooked pork patty oxidation decreased (P < 0.05) linearly as feeding duration increased from 3 to 9 wk. After 6 mo of freezer storage, lipid oxidation of pork chops from pigs fed 200 or 400 IU of VE/kg was lower (P < 0.05) than for pigs fed 40 IU of VE/kg. Likewise, lipid oxidation of pork chops of pigs fed VE for an extended period of time (6 wk) was lower (P < 0.05) after 9 mo of storage. Fatty acid profiles of neutral lipid fraction of the LM became more unsaturated (P < 0.05) with added VE to the feed. These results indicate an increased intake of dietary VE concentration, and prolonged feeding of VE can improve drip loss and reduce lipid oxidation in ground pork and pork chops. This study suggests that supplementation with 200 IU of VE/kg of feed for 6 wk before market is beneficial in improving lipid stability and pork quality.  相似文献

To cause rice blast disease, the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae develops a pressurized dome-shaped cell called an appressorium, which physically ruptures the leaf cuticle to gain entry to plant tissue. Here, we report that a toroidal F-actin network assembles in the appressorium by means of four septin guanosine triphosphatases, which polymerize into a dynamic, hetero-oligomeric ring. Septins scaffold F-actin, via the ezrin-radixin-moesin protein Tea1, and phosphatidylinositide interactions at the appressorium plasma membrane. The septin ring assembles in a Cdc42- and Chm1-dependent manner and forms a diffusion barrier to localize the inverse-bin-amphiphysin-RVS-domain protein Rvs167 and the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein Las17 at the point of penetration. Septins thereby provide the cortical rigidity and membrane curvature necessary for protrusion of a rigid penetration peg to breach the leaf surface.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of soluble (SF) and insoluble (ISF) dietary fiber during gestation on embryo survival and sow performance. In Exp. 1, 43 gilts were assigned randomly to 1 of 4 experimental diets: a corn-soybean meal control (C; 1.16% SF, 9.98% ISF); a 30% oat bran high in SF (HS; 3.02% SF, 10.06% ISF); a 12% wheat straw diet high in ISF (HIS; 1.08% SF, 18.09% ISF); and a 21% soybean hull diet (HS + HIS; 2.46% SF, 24.55% ISF). Gilts were fed the experimental diets based on their initial BW to meet their daily nutrient requirements. At estrus, gilts were inseminated artificially 3 times using pooled semen. Reproductive tracts were harvested 32 d postmating (range = 28 to 35 d). Statistical analysis of data included the effects of diet with days of gestation as a covariate. There were no differences in ovulation rate among gilts fed the experimental diets (avg. = 14.1). Number of live embryos was less for HIS and HS + HIS gilts compared with C and HS (9.9 and 9.1 vs. 11.9 and 10.6, respectively; P < 0.05). Total embryo survival rate (P < 0.05) was less for gilts fed HS + HIS compared with those fed the C and HS diets. These results suggest that high dietary ISF might decrease the total embryo survival rate without affecting ovulation rate. In Exp. 2, 716 sows were used in 3 concurrent trials. In trial 1, diets included a corn-soybean meal control (C; 0.43% SF, 10.50% ISF; n = 122) or a 31% oat bran diet (HS; 1.93% SF, 8.87% ISF; n = 124). In trial 2, diets included a C (n = 97) or a 13% wheat straw diet (HIS; 1.10% SF, 17.67% ISF; n = 119), and in trial 3 sows were fed a C (n = 123) or a 21% soybean hull diet (HS + HIS; 1.50% SF, 17.77% ISF; n = 131). All diets were offered to sows beginning 2 d postmating. All sows had ad libitum access to a standard lactation diet. Statistical analysis included the effects of diet, parity group, genetic line, and season as well as their interactions. The inclusion of SF and ISF in gestation diets did not affect litter size. Sows fed the HS + HIS diet had a greater ADFI and lost less BW during lactation (P < 0.01) than sows fed C. Under the conditions of this study, feeding gestating sows increased levels of SF and ISF from d 2 after breeding to d 109 of gestation did not increase litter size.  相似文献

Risk assessment of the nitrification inhibitors (NIs) 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP), 4-chloromethylpyrazole (ClMP), and dicyandiamide (DCD) on nontarget microbial activity in soils was determined by measuring dehydrogenase and dimethyl sulfoxide reductase activity (DHA, DRA, respectively) in three differently textured soils under laboratory conditions. Dehydrogenase activity was measured with standard procedure recommended to evaluate side effects of environmental chemicals on general microbial activity in soils. The kinetic of inhibition were obtained by dose–response relationships and used to calculate the no observable effect levels (NOEL values) and the effective doses at 10% and 50% inhibition (ED10 and ED50), respectively. Negative effects on DHA and DRA, respectively, were observed only at rates approximately 40–100 times higher than the concentrations recommended in the field. Both DHA and DRA were affected more in the sandy than in the silty or clayey soil. Consequently, NOEL, ED10, and ED50 values were considerably higher in the clayey than in the silty or sandy soil. The heterocyclic N compounds DMPP and ClMP, respectively, were more effective in inhibiting DHA and DRA than DCD. At application rates used in the field as well as at concentration up to 25 to 90 times higher, the NIs concerned failed to affect general soil microbial activity in soils. Among the three NIs tested, the not marketed ClMP exhibited the strongest negative effects on soil microbial activity. At recommended application rates, the NIs tested should be considered as enviromentally safe.  相似文献

The macronutrient composition and the quality of protein of hemp seed and products derived from hemp seed grown in Western Canada were determined. Thirty samples of hemp products (minimum 500 g), including whole hemp seed, hemp seed meal from cold-press expelling, dehulled, or shelled, hemp seed and hemp seed hulls, were obtained from commercial sources. Proximate analysis, including crude protein (% CP), crude fat (% fat) and fiber, as well as full amino acid profiles, were determined for all samples. Protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) measurements, using a rat bioassay for protein digestibility and the FAO/WHO amino acid requirement of children (2-5 years of age) as reference, were conducted on subsets of hemp products. Mean (±SD) percentage CP and fat were 24.0(2.1) and 30.4(2.7) for whole hemp seed, 40.7(8.8) and 10.2(2.1) for hemp seed meal, and 35.9(3.6) and 46.7(5.0) for dehulled hemp seed. The percentage protein digestibility and PDCAAS values were 84.1-86.2 and 49-53% for whole hemp seed, 90.8-97.5 and 46-51% for hemp seed meal, and 83.5-92.1 and 63-66% for dehulled hemp seed. Lysine was the first limiting amino acid in all products. Removal of the hull fraction improved protein digestibility and the resultant PDCAAS value. The current results provide reference data in support of protein claims for hemp seed products and provide evidence that hemp proteins have a PDCAAS equal to or greater than certain grains, nuts, and some pulses.  相似文献

Four chick trials and one pig trial were conducted to investigate the phosphorus-releasing efficacy oftwo commercial phytase enzymes (Natuphos and Ronozyme) and an experimental E. coli phytase enzyme (ECP) when added to corn-soybean meal diets containing no supplemental inorganic P (iP). In the 13- or 14-d chick trials, three or four graded levels of iP (0, 0.05,0.10,0.15%) from KH2PO4 were added to the basal diet to construct standard curves from which bioavailable P release could be calculated for the phytase treatments. In all cases, phytase supplementation levels were based on an assessment of phytase premix activity (i.e., P release from Na phytate at pH 5.5). Linear (P < 0.01) responses in tibia ash and weight gain resulted from iP supplementation in all assays. In the first chick trial, supplementation of 500 phytase units (FTU)/kg of ECP resulted in superior (P < 0.01) weight gain and tibia ash values compared with 500 FTU/kg of Natuphos. Results of the second chick trial revealed P-release values of 0.032 and 0.028% for 500 FTU/kg Natuphos and Ronozyme, respectively, and these were lower (P < 0.01) than the 0.125% P-release value for 500 FTU/kg of ECP. Tibia ash responded quadratically (P < 0.05) in response to graded levels of ECP up to 1,500 FTU/kg in the third chick trial. Combining Natuphos with either Ronozyme or ECP in Chick Trial 4 revealed no synergism between phytases with different initiation sites of P removal. The pig trial involved 10 individually fed weanling pigs per diet, and and phytase enzymes were supplemented to provide 400 FTU/kg in diets containing 0.60% Ca. Based on the linear regression of fibula ash on supplemental iP intake (r2 = 0.87), P-release values were 0.081% for Natuphos, 0.043% for Ronozyme, and 0.108% for ECP. These trials revealed an advantage of the E. coli phytase over the commercial phytases in young chicks.  相似文献
