Evaluation of the Tibia as a Source of Autogenous Cancellous Bone in the Horse

A 1 cm defect was created in the proximal medial cortex of 12 tibiae, cancellous bone was removed from the site, and the bones were fractured by loading in torsion. The fractures did not occur through the donor sites and the fracture patterns and loads to fracture were similar for the treated tibiae and their untreated mates. Cancellous bone was harvested from the proximal medial aspect of both tibiae in nine adult horses. The soft tissue wounds were monitored for more than 10 days in seven horses and healing of the osseous defects was evaluated radiographically at regular intervals to month 6 in two horses. The site provided convenient access with the horses in lateral or dorsal recumbency, the anatomic landmarks were reliable, and the surgical procedure was simple and short. Pharmacokinetics of probenecid in sheep

Six Merino ewes were given 1 g (27 g/kg) probenecid by the intravenous (i.v.), intramuscular (i.m.) and subcutaneous (s.c.) routes. After i.v. injection, the biological half-life was 1.55 h and apparent volume of distribution at the steady state (Vdss) 0.18 l/kg. Body clearance (ClB) and renal clearance (ClR) were 0.12 l/h/kg and 0.03 l/h/kg, respectively. Approximately 28% of unchanged probenecid was excreted in urine. Plasma probenecid concentrations after i.v., i.m. and s.c. injections were 133, 37, and 31 micrograms/ml, respectively, at 15 min; 76, 36, and 34 micrograms/ml at 1 h; and 43, 23 and 34 micrograms/ml at 2 h. The average bioavailability of probenecid given by i.m. and s.c. injection was 46% and 34%, respectively. However, after 2 h, probenecid plasma concentrations remained higher when it was given subcutaneously than when it was given intramuscularly. Urine output was correlated positively (P less than 0.05) with kel and ClB. Urine pH increased significantly (P less than 0.01) for the first 2 h, and then steadily declined over the subsequent 6 h. The results suggested that probenecid in sheep was rapidly eliminated because it was rapidly excreted in the normal but alkaline urine. Subcutaneous administration of probenecid in animals may be a useful alternative to oral or i.v. administration.  相似文献

Eye diseases in Siberian husky dogs

A full ophthalmic examination was performed on 40 Siberian husky dogs using direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonloscopy and nasolacrimal cannulation. Eight (20%) of the dogs were found to have distichia, 10 (25%) had excessive medial caruncular hairs, 8 (20%) had absence, displacement, or narrowing of the nasolacrimal puncta, 2 (5%) had bilateral corneal crystalline opacities, and 2 (5%) had unilateral areas of lateral corneal lipidosis. Fifty percent of the dogs had some abnormality of the iridocorneal (drainage) angle. However, in only one of these was the deformity severe enough to require glaucoma prophylaxis. An association between blue iris colour and malformation of the iridocorneal angle was noted.  相似文献

Double-ended aryl dithiols [alpha,alpha'-xylyldithiol (XYL) and 4,4'-biphenyldithiol] formed self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold(111) substrates and were used to tether nanometer-sized gold clusters deposited from a cluster beam. An ultrahigh-vacuum scanning tunneling microscope was used to image these nanostructures and to measure their current-voltage characteristics as a function of the separation between the probe tip and the metal cluster. At room temperature, when the tip was positioned over a cluster bonded to the XYL SAM, the current-voltage data showed "Coulomb staircase" behavior. These data are in good agreement with semiclassical predictions for correlated single-electron tunneling and permit estimation of the electrical resistance of a single XYL molecule (approximately18 ± 12 megohms).  相似文献
