The anthelmintic potentials of the aqueous and methanol extracts of Euphorbia helioscopia were investigated. In folklore medicine, E. helioscopia (Euphorbiaceae) is used in the treatment of various gastrointestinal ailments and diseases. A worm motility inhibition (WMI) assay and egg hatch assay (EHA) were used for in vitro assessment, and a faecal egg count reduction (FECR) assay was used for an in vivo study. The in vitro study revealed anthelmintic effects of crude methanolic extracts of E. helioscopia on live Haemonchus contortus worms as evident from their paralysis and/or death at 8h after exposure, different concentrations (12.5mgml(-1), 25mgml(-1) and 50mgml(-1)) of aqueous and methanolic extracts were used against H. contortus which exhibited dose-dependent anthelmintic effects on H. contortus. Aqueous and methanolic extracts of aerial parts (stem, leaves and flowers) of E. helioscopia were found to have very low percent inhibitory egg hatching as compared to levamisole. It is concluded that the entire plant of E. helioscopia possesses significant anthelmintic activity and could be a potential alternative for treating cases of helminth infections in ruminants.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the anthelmintic and antimicrobial efficacy of Euphorbia helioscopia crude extracts. A worm motility inhibition assay and egg hatch assay were used for in vitro study, and a faecal egg count reduction assay was used for in vivo study. The in vitro study revealed anthelmintic effects of crude methanolic extracts of E. helioscopia on live Haemonchus contortus worms as evident from their paralysis and/or death at 8 h after exposure. Different concentrations (12.5 mg?ml?1, 25 mg?ml?1 and 50 mg?ml?1) of aqueous and methanolic extracts were used against H. contortus which exhibited dose-dependent anthelmintic effects on H. contortus. Different extracts of E. helioscopia on percent inhibitory egg hatching was very low as compared to levamisole. The antimicrobial activity of extracts ranging from 100 to 500 mg?ml?1 screened by disc diffusion method against four selected bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas multocida and Escherichia coli) and two fungal strains (Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans) was also dose dependent with the extract showing more inhibitory effects against S. aureus and E. coli and a minimum inhibitory effect against A. flavus. It is concluded that the entire plant of E. helioscopia possesses significant anthelmintic and antimicrobial activity and could be a potential alternative for treating cases of helminth infections in ruminants.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted to assess the impact of various organic sources, inorganic nitrogen(N) and the different combinations of inorganic N(urea) + organic source on the yield components(YC) and grain yield(GY) of hybrid rice(Oryza sativa L., Pukhraj) under rice-wheat system. The experiments were conducted at Batkhela(Malakand), Northwestern Pakistan, in 2011 and 2012. Our results revealed that YC and GY ranked first for the hybrid rice when applied with sole inorganic N(urea), followed by the application of N in mixture(urea + organic sources), while the control plots(no N applied) ranked in the bottom. Among the six organic sources(three animal manures: poultry, sheep and cattle; three crop residues: onion, berseem and wheat), application of N in the form of poultry manure was superior in terms of higher YC and GY. When applying 120 kg/hm2 N source, 75% N from urea + 25% N from organic source resulted in higher YC and GY in 2011, while applying 50% N from urea + 50% N from organic sources caused higher YC and GY in 2012. Therefore, the combined application of N sources in the form of urea + organic source can produce good performances in terms of higher YC and GY of rice under rice-wheat cropping system.  相似文献

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Streptococcus agalactiae vaccine preparations, administered to tilapia broodstock, in preventing streptococcosis, through specific and non-specific immunity being transferred to the offspring. The study was conducted in two phases. The first was the vaccination of the broodstock using a whole-cell vaccine, an extracellular product (ECP) vaccine, and a combination of the two with a ratio of 1:1. The vaccines were administered to the broodstock 2 and 3 weeks before spawning. The second phase was the challenge test for larvae produced by vaccinated broodstock, and larvae from the unvaccinated control broodstock, through immersion in a suspension of 107 cfu mL?1 pathogenic S. agalactiae for 30 min, at ages 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post-hatching. The parameters evaluated were the broodstock’s blood profile, antibody-lysozyme (in broodstock, eggs, and larvae), and the larvae’s relative percent survival. Treatment with the combined vaccine administered 3 weeks before spawning resulted in the broodstock having significantly better antibody levels, lysozyme activity, and hematology profiles, compared to the other treatments (p?<?0.05). In addition, the larvae produced by broodstock subjected to this treatment, when challenged with the pathogenic S. agalactiae at ages 7, 14, 21, and 28 days, had RPS values of 95.24, 83.33, 72.22, and 56.02%, respectively. It was concluded that the administration of the “whole-cell/ECP” combination vaccine preparation to tilapia broodstock in the 3 weeks before spawning can increase specific and non-specific immunity in the broodstock and protect the larvae from S. agalactiae infection.  相似文献

The objective of this research was to determine the optimum dietary supplementation level of a probiotic (PowerLac?), for improving Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus growth performance and feed utilization, as well as enhanced protection against disease. For laboratory experimentation, a completely randomized experimental design, consisting of four treatments of a dietary probiotic (PowerLac?, containing Lactobacillus lactis D1813) supplementation at different levels (0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 g kg?1), against a control (0 g kg?1), was performed for 8 weeks (of culture period). For field experiments, three treatments of different dietary probiotic supplementation levels (0.25, 0.5 and 1.0 g kg?1), plus a control, were employed for 22 weeks (of culture period). Under controlled experimental conditions, in the first experiment, significantly higher fish final body weight, growth and lower food conversion ratio (FCR) were achieved by treatments with dietary probiotic supplementations of 0.25 and 0.5 g kg?1 (P < 0.05). In strong partial support of this, at field experimentation level, a dietary PowerLac? supplementation of 0.5 g kg?1 showed the most pronounced results, as indicated by the higher growth, and protein and lipid retention, as well as lower FCR, and reduced mortality following the Aeromonas hydrophila challenge test (P < 0.05).  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the anthelmintic, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Chenopodium album against gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep and some pathogenic microbes. A worm motility inhibition assay was used for in vitro study, and a faecal egg count reduction assay was used for an in vivo study. Various concentrations ranging from 100 to 500 μg/ml of the extract were subjected to antimicrobial screening by disc diffusion method against four selected bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas multocida and Escherichia coli) and two fungal (Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans) strains in order to estimate the medicinal potential of the herb. DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), riboflavin photo-oxidation, deoxyribose, lipid peroxidation assays were used for antioxidant activity. The extracts exhibited dose- and time-dependent anthelmintic effects on the Haemonchus contortus as compared to levamisole. The extract showed maximum inhibitory effect against S. aureus (28 ± 0.14 mm), while as mild inhibitory effect was observed against E. coli among the selected microbial strains. The effect produced by the different extract concentrations was comparable with the standard antibacterial agent streptomycin sulphate and antifungal agent nystatin, which were used as effective positive control in the study. The antioxidant activity showed that the extracts exhibited scavenging effect in concentration-dependent manner on superoxide anion radicals and hydroxyl radicals leading to the conclusion that the plant has broad spectrum anthelmintic, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities and could be a potential alternative for treating various diseases.  相似文献
