Apparent digestibility of crude protein, amino acids, lipid, carbohydrate and energy was measured for a range of feed ingredients fed to gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata L. — fish meal, poultry meal, meat meal, blood meal, squid meal, extracted soyabean and wheat flour. Chromic oxide was used as a non-absorbed reference substance and faeces were collected by stripping. Diets compounded from mixtures of these ingredients were then used to examine the possibility of predicting the digestibility of formulated diets.
Apparent digestibility of crude protein ranged from 79% to 90%, lipids from 83% to 95% and energy from 72% to 88% in the different ingredients. Apparent digestibility of carbohydrates was lower and ranged from 49% to 77%. Apparent digestibility of amino acids was higher than that of crude protein and differences were found among digestibilities of individual amino acids.
Tests conducted using five compound diets indicated that ingredient digestibility was additive for protein, amino acids, lipids and energy, whereas the digestibility of carbohydrates in the compound feeds was slightly lower than predicted.
Diets for Sparus aurata may thus be formulated on the basis of digestibility of individual ingredients.  相似文献

This study assessed the nutritional and biological value of a noncommercial, transgenic line of the Australian sweet lupin, Lupinus angustifolius, (cv. Warrah), produced to increase the methionine content of the seed. An initial experiment demonstrated that differences in the methionine content of the transgenic and nontransgenic control lupins had no apparent influence on the growth of juvenile red seabream fed practical diets. Re‐evaluation of the nutritional characteristics of the lupin meals with subsequent digestibility studies allowed the determination of the digestible value of the protein and energy content of each of the varieties. The digestible protein content of either variety was similar, however significant differences in the digestible energy value of each variety existed (56.3% cf. 64.0%). This re‐evaluation of the nutritional value of the genetically manipulated (GM) and non‐GM lupin varieties enabled the reformulation of diets on a digestible protein and energy basis. A second growth trial was undertaken using sub‐satietal pair‐feeding regimes, with the experiment also involving protein‐restrictive diets to allow expression of the differences in the methionine content of the transgenic and nontransgenic lupin meals. A significant benefit of the enhanced methionine level in the transgenic lupin was observed. It is argued that in the high‐protein fish diets used, the importance of amino acid composition is relatively limited. Economic modelling of the potential value of the increased methionine in the transgenic lupin suggests that this will have limited benefit for aquaculture industries, and that greater value would be attributable to higher protein and energy levels in ingredients.  相似文献

Live adult brine shrimp, Artemia franciscana (Latreille), were enriched with erythromycin to determine if Artemia could accumulate therapeutic levels for subsequent feeding to young fish. Three trials were conducted to determine the erythromycin incorporation and survival rates of enriched Artemia when fed either liposomes containing erythromycin or various erythromycin suspensions. Erythromycin concentration in Artemia fed a liposome suspension was low (∼ 5 μg mL−1) relative to Artemia fed the direct suspension (> 100 μg mL−1) over the same time period. When enriched with suspensions up to 1 g erythromycin L−1 sea water for 14 h, Artemia survival was not significantly affected ( P > 0.05) relative to controls. Using a suspension of 1 g L−1, tissue erythromycin concentrations of 109 ± 16 μg erythromycin mL−1  Artemia homogenate (mean ± SEM) were achieved after 12 h. Concentrations above 170 μg mL−1 were obtained using suspensions of 2–5 g L−1, but Artemia survival significantly ( P < 0.05) decreased.  相似文献

The effects of extended photoperiods, mimicking the longest day of the year, were studied in 1- and 2-year seabream. The photoperiod regimes started in late July, 36 and 39 days after the summer solstice and continued for 11 months, well beyond the natural reproductive season of December–March. Regime 1 (long day, 15.5L:8.5D), which used natural and fluorescent light, reduced the incidence of maturity in both year classes and females did not spawn although some gonadal development was observed. Among all 1-year sampled fish of regime 1, a maximum of 5% became spermiating males (March) and 5% reached the yolk granule stage of vitellogenesis (VO3; 250–400 μm diameter) by May. Among 2-year sampled fish of regime 1, 45% became spermiating males and 25% were females, which reached the advanced vitellogenesis stage (VO4; 400–600 μm) by April. Regime 2 (skeleton photoperiod), consisting of natural light and a 1.5-h pulse of fluorescent light during the period 14–15.5 h after sunrise, postponed gonadal development and spawning for up to 3 months. In this regime, a maximum of 80% of 1-year sampled fish were spermiating males in February and a maximum of 10% were VO3 stage females in March. In the sampled 2-year fish, the maximum levels were 50% spermiating males in February and 25% VO3 stage females in March. Control fish, which were exposed to the natural photoperiod (29°34′N), spawned during their natural season. The maximum levels for 1-year sampled control fish were 95% spermiating males and no females in December, while among 2-year sampled fish, maxima of 75% males in February and 45% VO4 stage females in November. Final average weights of photoperiod treated fish (1-year=430 g—regime 1, 400 g—regime 2; 2-year=582 g—regime 1, 518 g—regime 2) were significantly greater (p<0.05) than control fish (1-year=341 g; 2-year=476 g). Daily feed consumption (g/100 g fish) dropped from an average of 1.83 to 0.93 g for 1-year fish during August–December and from 0.88 to 0.54 g for 2-year fish during the same period. This was correlated with reduced autumn and winter water temperatures (26–20°C summer to winter change) and increased fish weight in all treatments. Daily feed consumption was also affected by the onset of spawning in the control and regime 2 (skeleton photoperiod) treatments of both 1- and 2-year fish. The efficiency of feed utilization (FCR) and protein and energy retention were all affected by the photoperiod regimes and followed the same pattern of decrease as weight gain, regime 1 (long day)>regime 2 (skeleton photoperiod)>control.  相似文献

The present study tested the effect of dietary lecithin and exogenous lipase on the incorporation of oleic acid in the tissue lipids of gilthead seabream larvae (Sparus aurata). Two of four microdiets were prepared by the addition of [14C]oleic acid as free fatty acid (FFA) to diets containing either 5% cuttlefish liver oil (CLO) or 5% soybean lecithin. Glycerol tri[1-14C]oleate was similarly incorporated in two other diets identical in lipid (4% cuttlefish liver oil, 1% soybean lecithin) and non-lipid composition but differed in that one contained a supplement of 0.05% porcine lipase. The effect of these diets was tested by following the incorporation of the label (dpm/mg larvae DBW) in the neutral and phospholipid fractions of seabream larvae at four different ages (21, 27, 32 and 45 days after hatching).A significant (p<0.05) effect of dietary lecithin on the incorporation of labelled FFA in both larval neutral and phospholipid fractions was demonstrated at all ages. This was particularly pronounced during early development (day 21) where fish fed the lecithin supplement incorporated 6.75 times more label than the diet containing [14C]oleic acid in CLO. The dietary lecithin enhancing effect diminished with age but was still significant at day 45 (2.17 times more label). In addition, the label was considerably higher in the phospholipid fraction compared to the neutral lipid, reflecting the high demand for membrane synthesis during rapid growth. Lecithin fed larvae demonstrated a higher consumption rate and efficiency of incorporation than fish consuming the cuttlefish liver oil diet, suggesting an emulsifying function for dietary phospholipid. In contrast, the supplementation with lipase showed a clear effect only in older fish where 45 day old larvae fed the lipase diet demonstrated a 3.42 times increase in radioactivity in their tissue lipids. This late lipase response may be the result of an insufficient level of dietary lecithin (M) and a short intestinal length being ineffective, in the early larval stages, in incorporating labelled free fatty acid from dietary glycerol tri[1-14C]oleate breakdown.  相似文献

The initial experiments in rearing rabbitfish (Siganus rivulatus) in sea water indicate that this fish may be suitable for commercial cultivation. Juveniles are available in large numbers during summer and fall along the Mediterranean and Red Sea coast of Israel. Juveniles collected in Eilat (Red Sea) were kept in tanks and submerged cages and fed fish pellets. After 29 days in tanks, the first group of fish which averaged 0.91 g upon capture increased in weight to an average of 3.7 g. A subsequent school of juveniles kept in sea cages for 84 days increased in weight from an average of 7.3 g to 28.5 g.  相似文献

Factorial determinations of energy and protein requirements in growing Sparus aurata were carried out at 23–24°C. The energy content in the whole fish was dependent on fish weight and ranged from 5 to 11 MJ kg−1 body mass for 1–250 g fish, whereas the protein content remained constant at 179 g kg−1.
During starvation the fish lost 42.5 kJ body weight (BW) (kg)−0.83 day−1 and 0.42 g protein BW (kg)−0.70 day−1. The maintenance requirement for energy was calculated to be 55.8 kJ BW (kg)−0.83 day−1 and for protein 0.86 g BW (kg)−0.70 day−1. Utilization of digestible energy and digestible crude protein below and at maintenance was determined as 0.72 and 0.51, respectively. Utilization of digestible energy and digestible crude protein for growth above maintenance was determined as 0.46 and 0.28, respectively.
These values allow estimation of requirements for growing Sparus aurata .  相似文献

Soy and rapeseed protein concentrates (SPC and RPC) were evaluated as fish meal substitutes in gilthead seabream Sparus aurata L. diets. The protein concentrates were used to replace 30%, 60% and 100% fish meal, and effects on feed intake, weight gain and feed gain ratio were determined in a 56‐day growth trial. Some groups were then grown beyond 56 days, until all reached an average weight of 50 g. A comparison of body composition at 50 g showed no significant differences in protein and ash content among all fish, while lipid and energy contents were different. The 100% RPC and 60% and 100% SPC replacement diets had lower body lipid and energy contents compared with those of the control diet. Feed intake and weight gains were inversely related to inclusion levels of plant proteins. Feed intake dropped to 52–72% of that of the control treatment and weight gain to 46–61%. Energy retention followed this same trend, decreasing from ERV values of 53 to 44 with an increase in dietary plant protein content. With the exception of 100% SPC substitution (PPV = 35), protein retention among treatments was similar (PPV = 37–39). These results suggest that both SPC and RPC may be promising protein sources for inclusion in seabream diets. The relative palatability of these plant proteins could be a limiting factor in their use.  相似文献

The predominant diseases occurring in Sparus aurata cultured in sea water at Elat were bacteria-contaminated skin lesions, gill rot and septicemia. These developed mainly in fish stressed and injured following handling. Bacteria involved were Gram-negative and myxobacteria which were controlled by application of Nitrofurazone. Ectoparasitic infections were generally sporadic and insignificant, however, on three occasions the ciliate Trichodina sp. and the monogenean Furnestia echeneis caused morbidity and mortality of epizootic proportion. Ectoparasites were successfully controlled by application of formalin. A diet-related disease, visceral granuloma, appeared in fish fed on certain artificial diets containing fish meal but not in fish fed on fresh mussels or fish meat. Pathological symptoms included extreme granuloma following hypertrophy of the kidneys and spleen and focal lesions in other organs. Hatchery-bred fish suffered from episodes of extreme infections of epitheliocystis, the monogenean F. echeneis, gill rot due to myxobacteria and skeletal deformations coupled with tumours of the swim bladder.  相似文献

Diets formulated with increasing digestible energy (10–22 DE MJ kg−1) contents and decreasing digestible crude protein (DCP)/DE ratios (34–15 g MJ−1) were fed to triplicate groups of Sparus aurata in three consecutive trials. Fish were hand-fed to apparent satiation and voluntary feed intake was found to be dependent upon dietary DE content. Daily growth was regulated both by energy and protein intake and reached its maximum at high energy levels. Growth composition showed narrow limits regarding protein gain (157–190 g kg−1) and a wider range regarding lipid (55–210 g kg−1) deposition reflecting the dietary energy to protein supply. Energy utilization for growth was constant at a value of 0.50 regardless of energy intake. Efficiency of protein utilization for growth varied between 0.33 and 0.60 depending on the DCP/DE ratio in the diet. The optimal protein utilization for protein deposition was found to be at 0.47. These values allow daily energy and protein requirements for growing S. aurata to be quantified. This demonstrates that the optimal dietary DCP/DE supply changes with fish size, growth potential and daily feed intake.  相似文献
