The present investigation was carried out to study the prevalence of mastitis in 136 Holstein cows from a subtropical province of South Korea. Out of 527 milk samples studied, 22.6 % were found positive for mastitis. On animal level, prevalence was estimated at 55.2 %. Late lactating cows were at higher risk for mastitis development as compared to those in early and mid lactations. The study revealed that the risk of an increase in somatic cell count (SSC) and mastitis increased with advanced age and in animals with higher parity. The highest infection rate of 71.4 % was found in the age group >9 years followed by cows with higher than fifth parity (65.5 %). On severity and quarter basis, cows of <3 years of age had higher occurrence (12.5 %) of severe mastitis. From the present study, it may be concluded that a positive relationship exists between increased prevalence of mastitis and high SCC and the advance in age and parity of Holstein cows. 相似文献

Heinz-body hemolytic anemia and nephrosis associated with hemoglobinuria were diagnosed in a North American river otter. Fluids were administered, and the signs of renal failure improved immediately. Severe anemia developed, and the otter received a semisynthetic hemoglobin product to maintain the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood until a blood transfusion could be given. Immediate clinical improvement was observed following hemoglobin administration, and adverse effects were not seen. Six days after admission, the otter began to produce its own RBC and recovered without complications. The Heinz-body anemia was determined to be caused by methylene blue that was in the water of minnows consumed by the otter the night before it became ill. Methylene blue is a common ingredient in products used to extend the life of bait fish. Bait fish kept in water treated with methylene blue should not be used as food for fish-eating animals. 相似文献

Present paper reports a method of preparing polymer composite electrolyte nanofiber mat using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), ammonium
thiocynate (NH4SCN) salt, and aluminium oxide (Al2O3) nano particles based on electrospinning technique. Two-stage process of preparation of nanofibers, namely, preparation of
nano particles filled PVA electrolyte gel solution followed by its electrospinning has been used. The so obtained nanofibers
have been characterized by XRD, DSC, SEM, and Conductivity measurements. XRD patterns affirm the formation of nanocomposite
while SEM pictures reveal formation of fibers on a nano scale format (300–800 nm). Fibers of the electrolytes are seen to
be thermally stable. Ionic conductivity of electrolyte fiber is seen to improve in the presence of nano filler at room temperature
with a maximum at 5.31×10−3 Scm−1 for 4 wt% filler concentration, which is comparable to that for corresponding dried gel electrolyte films. 相似文献

Glycosylated α-galactosidase (melibiase) has been purified from white chickpea ( Cicer arietinum ) to 340-fold with a specific activity of 61 units/mg. Cicer α-galactosidase showed a M(r) of 45 kDa on SDS-PAGE and by MALDI-TOF. The optimum pH and temperature with pNPGal were 4.5 and 50 °C, respectively. The K(m) for hydrolysis of pNPGal was 0.70 mM. Besides hydrolyzing the pNPGal, Cicer α-galactosidase also hydrolyzed natural substrates such as melibiose, raffinose, and stachyose very effectively; hence, it can be exploited commercially for improving the nutritional value of soy milk. Galactose was found to be a competitive inhibitor. The property of this enzyme to cleave the terminal galactose residues can be utilized for converting the group B erythrocytes to group O erythrocytes. 相似文献
